The only potential resolution is that I've got an interview for an NHS job next week. If I get it I would become a "keyworker" (not am important job just admin but believe you me I'm going to play on it if it means I can get my child some socialisation) which would mean that I could send DS to nursery.

I am so utterly fucked off. There are still less then 300 fucking cases here. I am so so angry.

GoldenOmber · 21/05/2020 16:27

It seems entirely plausible than many are naturally immune

There's research suggesting that some of the common-cold coronaviruses give immunity to this one. Which is very odd, but would explain why some areas seem to have reached some kind of herd immunity before they should have done if it is actually true.

I'm really encouraged that we aren't seeing big spikes and resurgences in the European countries that have started to roll back on lockdown.

Bollss · 21/05/2020 16:31

I really hope council's like ours get their arses handed to them over this.

Why are our children being punished :(

I know it's not just me. I know the children in Wales and Scotland are being treated like shit on the shoe of their leaders too but this is not acceptable. Not acceptable at all and I don't understand why people are rolling over and accepting it like these cunts are trying to do is a favour?

Mascotte · 21/05/2020 16:34

People seem to be lapping up the "Nicola is looking after us" pish up here. So weird.

Couple of possible cracks showing in Facebook though with some non dementors tentatively poking heads up

GoldenOmber · 21/05/2020 16:35

I'd be interested to know how measures affecting children so severely can be compatible with the 'best interests of the child' standard.

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 21/05/2020 16:37

@Mascotte - I know if we say it we're just stupid mothers raising a snowflake generation, despite the fact we know social contact is the best way to help reduce the impact of stress. Is it because it's sunny and Facebook feeds are full of children having a lovely time? The Children's Commissioner for Wales is asking children to let her know how they're coping, but are they? Are they doing it independently or to please parents? It's very hard to get the truth from children, plus looking at it some of the questions push you certain ways e.g. Are you playing more or less? Well my daughter is playing more but with me or her toys not with other children. That's because home school has gone to shit and that's her education for 6 months gone. I've written to Kirsty Williams to ask about it, but response time is 3 weeks and she'll just say she's putting £million into mental health for children. These are children who just need to play, not play therapy or counselling, just social contact and a bit of structure to their day in school.

DominaShantotto · 21/05/2020 16:38

I did that survey linked to earlier and I'm just now so utterly angry and upset that they are acting in such a way that SO MANY FUCKING CHILDREN are suffering the same way mine are. I want to cry, I want to scream, I want to punch the TV and I feel sick with anxiety when I just heard the BBC breaking news sound in case it was more shitness incoming.

thenightsky · 21/05/2020 16:42

Dowser That's interesting as I suspect we are around the same age. I never caught Asian flu either. Nor any of the other flu bugs going around over my many decades. I worked out, the last time I had flu was 42 years ago. I catch a minor cold only about every 5 or 6 years too.

Pepperwand · 21/05/2020 16:51

Just spent 40 mins queuing for a non-essential drive-through Costa. It was totally worth it!

heroku · 21/05/2020 16:55

@Pepperwand that's at least four grannies and a teacher's worth. Unbelievable. Wink

DominaShantotto · 21/05/2020 17:00

I've had three drive thru Costas this week.

NOT AT ALL SORRY! THEY WERE WORTH IT!

ThatLibraryMiss · 21/05/2020 17:02

Authoritative news from a man in the queue at Aldi. His girlfriend works at a big local hospital and she says the peak hasn't come yet. This will no doubt be a surprise to Public Health England, they who are in possession of the facts and figures, who think it happened in the middle of last month. What do they know, eh?

Dowser · 21/05/2020 17:02

We are allowed to meet up with 6 people outside now?
That’s good
Must’ve missed that

KaronAVyrus · 21/05/2020 17:04

I’ve been to:
Poundland
Poundstretchers
Superdrug
RS McColls
Lidl’s

I didn’t even buy anything. Just fancied a mooch. I’m in full on granny slaying territory.

HauntedGoatFart · 21/05/2020 17:07

We are allowed to meet up with 6 people outside now?

That's just NI, although here in London I can't see the rozzers giving a shit.

NUFC69 · 21/05/2020 17:07

Dowser/NightSky, I am early 70s and I had totally forgotten Asian flu - I think I missed it, too, as I have only ever had proper flu twice in my lifetime and the time doesn't fit.

Northumberland CC are starting to open car parks at last, but no mention yet of playgrounds. My daughter is off tomorrow so we're going out somewhere with the grandchildren, I think I will do a picnic.

So angry that the media keeps pushing mental health, but doesn't seem to care about the children.

Littlebelina · 21/05/2020 17:16

Been trying to work today apart from brief trip to garden centre (scores dead as a result) after getting DH to inch my car off the drive as neighbours car predictably has been abandoned. Bedding plants are new toilet rolls apparently so will have to have herbs in a hanging basket.

Still cross over the school bullshit I saw this morning, almost tempted to print it off and mark it in red pen. St Nicola hasn't helped. Does no-one in the Scottish government have children. Grr

Bollss · 21/05/2020 17:18

There's another thread about how school will be part time and part online learning for the foreseeable.

How is this acceptable? How will people live?

Dowser · 21/05/2020 17:19

Nufc..did you feel you had to stay indoors as being over 70?

Weedsnseeds1 · 21/05/2020 17:20

I'm not old enough for Spanish flu and rarely seem to get coughs and colds. On the odd occasion I do get some minor sniffle, OH catches it from me and invariably gets full on man flu.
However, he spent most of his life in Australia and presumably has immunity or partial immunity, to a completely different set of viruses to me.

iamapixie · 21/05/2020 17:23

Domina
I am so with you. I am trying not to sink to dementor level with their ridiculous rudeness and hysteria but it's hard to stay calm and I just want to shout F OFF at the whole lot of them with their insane wailing currently deciding government policy.
I could just bloody cry. Except I can't because trying to protect dc from the fucking ridiculousness of the world we live in.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 21/05/2020 17:28

Yesterday I started smoking again.

I need to not do that.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 21/05/2020 17:30

@TrustTheGeneGenie the thing that is keeping me going is what our European neighbours are doing.

Pay attention to what’s going on in NL and Denmark, normality can’t be that far away if the Continent is 70% of the way there in a fortnights time

Nihiloxica · 21/05/2020 17:33

If school is going to be part time for the foreseeable future and I'm going to be expected to educated my children myself and give up work to do it, then I want my tax reduced and I want the money spent on education to be redirected to the women who are going to be forced out of the workforce by this insane policy.

Jesus, it really is Gilead.

I guess a lot of teachers will be getting their P45s in the next few months.

HauntedGoatFart · 21/05/2020 17:33

I don't feel as negative about the prospects for September school. Worried about political incompetence, absolutely, but if Gupta is right and the trends we are seeing continues, the virus will keep winding down, life will resume at a faster pace, and it will be impossible to justify things like virtual school. And as PP have pointed out, suddenly the unions will be vehemently against children being schooled remotely, having realised that such a move for anything other than a very short time will make thousands of teachers dispensible.
