Personalised car number plates - yay or nay?

Just that really.

DH is so keen.

I think it's tacky and a waste of money. I genuinely can't understand why you'd want your name (or some ridiculous incarnation) as your car reg, but maybe I'm a grumpy bitch.

Thoughts?

I have one and I love it. DH bought it for me on a significant birthday and I see it as a piece of harmless fun and a way of personalising my otherwise quite ordinary car. It's no more naff or pretentious than me painting my front door a colour of my choice, or wearing clothing which i like, but others may not.

I've just changed my car (for a less old and broken one) and can't wait for the documents to come back so I can transfer it onto my new(er) one. Really don't see why people get so offended by them, and, for those who say they are a waste of money, pretentious and naff .... well (to use that old MN phrase) ... my money, my choice.

When a poster that does nothing but bilge spite all over the boards tells me they don't agree with me, my overwhelming thought is "Thank fuck for that!". I'd hate to be like that

Spot on! I’m GLAD I’m not like them and actually if they hate me or my choices then I must be doing something right coz I’d hate to be similar to them yuck! 🤮

I'm actually happy to read that some people will actively avoid parking next to me due to my plates Grin

Russellbrandshair, there's an American phrase that is just right, I think - "Sucks to be them". It must do. Contented and respected people just don't post like that, they don't need to.

overtly, you might have me parking next to you, I'm a sucker for a nice space, but I'm a good parker, honestly, not a ding so far to any car. Grin

Lol very true! It must suck. A lot. I can’t imagine going through life so full of angst and frothing rage about other people’s choices. Thankfully I have a full life to keep me occupied so other people’s choice of car, number plate, clothing or makeup doesn’t impact my life in any way, which is um.... normal?!

Clearly this is as polarising an issue for MN as it is for me and DH 😂

Luckily his chosen plate is now too expensive so he's given up (at least for now). Phew.
