@Drivingdownthe101 Oh, that's just the tip of the iceberg here. Our local hardware store has reopened its shop to go in, rather than just doing deliveries. My DH has gone there to buy clothes pegs, which is causing wild excitement in our household.

TheGreatWave · 13/05/2020 09:53

That’s what life has come to, being excited about recycling centres and public toilets

I will confess I was very excited when news came out that the tip was reopening. Our green waste collections haven't fully resumed and we have a lot of green waste. Appointment system in force, DH going again today,

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 13/05/2020 09:53

Chris Witty said at the conference on Monday that a significant amount of people won't even catch the virus, he then said most who do won't even have any symptoms. That's something to be really positive about isn't it?

I was beginning to think I was the only person who'd heard that as it wasn't all over the internet. It doesn't fit the agenda though does it?

Tappering · 13/05/2020 09:54

My bright spot today is that my favourite garden centre is re-opening. I won't have a chance to go as I'm working late today, but just knowing it's available now, really helps.

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 13/05/2020 09:54

I feel almost rebellious when I put my shopping away without wiping it down first Grin

Honestly think people’s immune systems are going to be shot to pieces what with the Mrs hinch followers and now this?

rookiemere · 13/05/2020 09:54

Alaska if Scotland remains in full lockdown compared to England at Christmas we'll simply drive down to England and stay there. Both our jobs can be done remotely, DS is getting close to hee haw from his expensive private school in the way of education and we have loved ones down there.

The saddest thing to me right now is that the biggest change the UK governments could have made without impacting RRate too much was letting people see one person outside and socially distanced. BJ cocked that up ( deliberately?) so now English folk are all off to Whitby with their she wees and picnics and rest of UK still not allowed to meet anyone without being public enemy number one.

Drivingdownthe101 · 13/05/2020 09:55

Don’t get me wrong I’m excited too, our garden looks like the place Amazon packaging goes to die!

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 13/05/2020 09:56

@rookiemere exactly! I will be going to my parents and in laws at Christmas as normal, they have already missed one grandchild’s birthday sure as hell am I keeping them away at Christmas as well

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 13/05/2020 09:56

Both sets live nearby

Mascotte · 13/05/2020 09:57

Mightbealiitlebitmad Hi, yes I know...if anyone stops you I'd just say I was taking shopping to an older person and maybe even take her something!

they are talking about a bubble thing seeing other close family at another stage soon so might be sooner than you think too.

maybe you could meet her somewhere nice nearby and take a picnic and a walk together, all allowed Flowers

Orangeblossom78 · 13/05/2020 10:04

I'm not wiping shopping, and won't be wearing a mask..

Orangeblossom78 · 13/05/2020 10:05

Garden centre sounds nice Tappering, I know what you mean. I feel like that about the botanical gardens too

Tappering · 13/05/2020 10:26

@Orangeblossom78 - ooh I haven't been to a botanical garden for bloody years. That's definitely going on my freedom list.

123bananas · 13/05/2020 10:30

FFS survey from the academy trust for my kids school this morning lists all the concerns as relating to not taking temps, lack of PPE, worries about children getting ill, lack of confidence in government etc ... So biased and leading no mention of concerns about children's mental health and wellbeing, safeguarding, lack of education. They are clearly trying to sink the school reopening using parental feedback as support.

BarkandCheese · 13/05/2020 10:30

I’m excited today because a) my dog groomer has reopening her business so after her appointment on Saturday my dog will look less like a cross between a porcupine and and powder puff, and b) we’re going to drive out to DH’s childhood village today to walk the dog around the fields there, which is something we used to do most weekends but as it’s 30mins away haven’t been able to do for weeks.

Things will go back to normal eventually, because that’s what people want. After any kind of major upheaval, be it war, plague or natural disaster we always do the same thing. We grieve for our dead, take stock then rebuild. I know this is different but if London could both survive and be rebuilt after the blitz we can work out how to live with this and have good quality of life.

I know right now things are absolutely shitty for so many people, but two weeks ago things were a bit worse, and today things are starting to reopen and it’s getting a bit better.

BlackberryViolet · 13/05/2020 10:32

@Tappering, I know how you feel, we have 4 big garden centres near us, 3 have reopened today. Sadly I’m working so can’t get there but I’m ridiculously excited at them being open and am seriously thinking about taking a days leave next week to do all 3. Have to do my best to keep them in businessGrin

Orangeblossom78 · 13/05/2020 10:34

First the council closed the botanical gardens but kept the main park open, but then they re-opened them after the news about parks should be open. i'm very glad for it living in a flat nature is a great thing for mental health

DominaShantotto · 13/05/2020 10:37

Our local garden centre is now Saviour of the Nation and Hero of the Dementors by refusing to open... but click and collect available. The Dementors (who never went there anyway) are praising the shit out of it.

Subway reopens next week - I would seriously do things for a steak and cheese sub. KFC looking like reopening too and I had a dream about a Big Mac last night.

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 13/05/2020 10:39

McDonald’s has said they are reopening their drive thrus......not Scotland though 🙈

buffyp · 13/05/2020 10:41

Hope it’s ok to join here. I think I may have just lost the plot on a thread regarding a headteacher posting on Facebook in a rant. Apparently it’s ridiculous to suggest that it may have been unprofessional and inappropriate. I suspect that I may be about to be dementored when I called her out on it. It’s nice to find rational sensible people here though.

Pinkflipflop85 · 13/05/2020 10:42

I need kfc. I don't care how many I murder when I can finally get some!

A school near us has sent a letter out saying they refuse to open. Ffs.

Drivingdownthe101 · 13/05/2020 10:46

Unions are telling teachers not to engage with plans to open. How is that helpful to anyone? Surely it’s better to communicate your concerns than to refuse the engage.
I’m just wondering if what other profession employees would be able to refuse to engage with plans to go back to work without it being grounds for disciplinary action.

It's ok Scottish anti-dementors, the Scottish Government has put a really trite poem on their Facebook account telling us to watch TV and read books.
