I think I finished the last thread by accident...

Pleased I've found this thread. Chris Witty said at the conference on Monday that a significant amount of people won't even catch the virus, he then said most who do won't even have any symptoms. That's something to be really positive about isn't it? I live with migraines, they are horrendous and whilst not life threatening they cause me a severe amount of pain and do affect my quality of life. If people do get Covid with symptoms, in the main, it will be like any other virus that they will recover from and not ongoing.

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 13/05/2020 09:06

@rookiemere you’re right that’s exactly what it feels like and I feel like my area is the worst for people being terrified! I just don’t get it! At the risk of sounding like a broken record, European countries had hairdressers amongst the first to open but they don’t seem to be able to manage that here! A poster in the Netherlands said her hair appointment was actually really good, ppe in place, contact forms etc and it was fine! My hair dresser is self employed and has fell through the gaps for the grant, a lot of hairdressers are self employed and rent chairs! She has said that the NHBF does not seem to be fighting their corner or lobbying government for guidelines to allow them to open or practice safely, a lot have been taking extra courses for hygiene during Covid19 and getting in masks and extra gowns etc

Domina sorry to hear the day hasn't had a great start - hope it improves.

HauntedGoatFart · 13/05/2020 09:08

Flowers hang in there @DominaShantotto. I'm so sorry you're having such a hard time. I hope you can be gentle on yourself.

DS1 is in an alternative placement via the PRU system usually and I am at a total loss for how to support him atm. His placement have today emailed and asked why he wasn't logging in to complete work. I am trying to compose a reply and ask them do they actually remember who he was and why he ended up with them in the first place? If he was someone I could get to log in and complete school work without tears (mine), violence (his) and screaming (both of us) he wouldn't need their specialised fucking service in the first place! I think I will go for a coffee and a cig before I reply else it's going to be something along the lines of "fuck off".

But a nice moment: a friend of a friend has sent a massive box of biscuits and chocolate to our workplace! Some people are ace :)

Iwalkinmyclothing · 13/05/2020 09:10

we’re nothing like Denmark

We're binge watching The Last Kingdom on Netflix in the evenings atm (how did I miss this before?!) and I think we could do with being a lot more Danish!

SunlightBaby · 13/05/2020 09:11

@SummerHouse you are right and that has cheered me up a lot Smile

saraclara · 13/05/2020 09:15

Ugh. I came here to avoid the schools/teachers posts. I thought this was where people came to avoid the moaners?

OutwardBound2016 · 13/05/2020 09:15

A FB contact posted one of those ‘anyone else enjoying this slow simple pace of life’ memes....I replied with ‘no it’s shit and boring’, about sums it up from my perspective!

DominaShantotto · 13/05/2020 09:16

Oh I'm sorry - you've come randomly onto a thread and decided it doesn't meet with your requirements?!

Oh dear

MagdaS · 13/05/2020 09:17

I heard the R4 interview with the teachers and it was a breath of fresh air. Complete sanity and individual risk assessment.

I do think some of the dementoring has its roots in being a bit emotionless. I think there is a sub section who don't understand (or repress these feelings) what it is like to miss someone and want to be with them, who is outside their immediate family. That's a sign of weakness to them. Some of this is in the oh I would never live with anyone until my kids are 18. I realise some people do that for very good reasons, but some seems to be a keep people at arms length thing.

Mascotte · 13/05/2020 09:17

Me too @OutwardBound2016 and people who think like that are super weird or must have truly shit lives normally whereas I love mine.

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 13/05/2020 09:20

@outwardbound2016 pretty much sums it up doesn’t it? If those people like the slower pace of life let them continue and let me back to the coffee shops and bars, more for me Grin

Drivingdownthe101 · 13/05/2020 09:21

One of the good things to hopefully come of this will be that with so many people ‘staying the fuck at home’ indefinitely, the queues in bars will be smaller!

PineappleDanish · 13/05/2020 09:22

I also think that MN would be much more useable if we could just ban the words "safe" and "dangerous". Both relative terms, what's safe to me isn't safe to you. We've all established that most people are really crap at assessing risk anyway.

People trot out "I won't be doing X, Y or Z until it's SAFE to do so" without firstly knowing what safe is, and secondly what steps would have to be put into place to make "safe". Also given that everyone has their own definition of safe, that's an impossible task.

Danger too - to dementors, "dangerous" is not soaking your spuds in Milton.

Drivingdownthe101 · 13/05/2020 09:24

On another thread this morning PineappleDanish someone said they would only see family when it’s safe. Someone asked when they’d consider it safe, and they said ‘when the government say we can’.

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 13/05/2020 09:26

@drivingdownthe101 😂😂😂😂😂 god sake, the virus will still be there when the government say it is ‘safe’ though? That’s what I mean so many people are so uneducated when it comes to this! I wonder is people went on like this during the Spanish flu or Hong Kong flu?

Willitneverend · 13/05/2020 09:27

@rookiemere I think there's only so long most populations can take of lockdown before the costs outweigh the benefits. I suspect we'll be rapidly moving towards that here.

I remember we used to get all the couthy stories about Scotland being one of the first countries to establish an early universal education system and this meaning Scottish people went and contributed to the world and punched above our weight as a small nation...engineering science missionaries medicine yada yada. That's all gone in the bin now apparently.

Drivingdownthe101 · 13/05/2020 09:27

Exactly. What sort of risk assessment is that?! It’s insane.

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 13/05/2020 09:27

@rookiemere what do you make of NS saying Christmas won’t be like one we have ever known? Hope she doesn’t think I won’t be going near my family over Christmas?

Mascotte · 13/05/2020 09:27

I am actually amazed by this blind obedience to authority.

DominaShantotto · 13/05/2020 09:27

Nothing is truly safe. DH ended up in A+E putting washing into the machine and slicing the tip of his finger off FFS, and aren't like 5 people killed by putting on their trousers each year?!

We have no perception of risk, pitiful understanding of science and no bugger can look at statistics and think what they're actually telling us in this country anymore. Oh if only there were some kind of institution which might help people develop such skills...

Willitneverend · 13/05/2020 09:28

There's a letter in today's Herald saying everyone needs to stay at home until there's a vaccine and it's safe. Staying at home makes people immortal.

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 13/05/2020 09:29

@Mascotte it is very concerning! A lot is being brought in via the back door under the guise of covid 19. I know at my work they have made massive changes (nhs) that are here to stay which they wanted to implement anyway but we have all just accepted it because of the virus

OutwardBound2016 · 13/05/2020 09:29

I can say it here but I cannot wait to take my kids on a day out, go to a coffee shop, wander round a clothes shop, go for dinner, go on a long haul flight and get drunk with my friends in a bar I DO NOT want a ‘slower pace of life’ so fuck off!
