@pineappledanish it’s Bloomin hard, I work in community nursing so am out all day, DH is back to work this week in agricultural engineering which should never have closed in the first place, but ya know we’re in Scotland so it was DEMANDED even though they can socially distance better than most! So coming home after a shift the last thing I want to do is start with school work. I can’t wait till they are back!

I have had to unfollow someone on my Facebook who just shares everything that is doom mongering and clearly lacks the insight to look into things herself, surprise surprise she is a TA who WONT be going back until it’s safe

Funny i never hear about all these supermarket workers becoming ill and dying 🤔

Orangeblossom78 · 13/05/2020 08:37

So, I can see that for older teachers (50 or 60 plus) and with health conditions such as diabetes that would be more of a concern than younger healthy ones).

goshdarnitjanet · 13/05/2020 08:39

All of the schools stuff seems to me to be a bigger version of when you are sat in a work meeting and always have the couple of people who always have something to moan about but never ever propose any solutions and then when someone suggests something they always have to find the downsides instead of saying lets give it a go and see if it works.

I know that this is a big issue and people fear they may get ill but its the relentless, automatic, pessimistic "no" to any kind of reasoning or suggestions that gets me annoyed.

These fuckers are going to win, I know. I can’t take anymore of this. My DD is just fucking canon fodder in these people’s political battle.

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 13/05/2020 08:41

@orangeblossom78 but you get people are DYING how dare you try and be rational about it!🙄

Didn’t realise I co existed with so many stupid sheeple. You try and explain there will always be younger people fall victim to illnesses it’s been that way since the beginning of time but it’s only sensationalised In the media because it’s such a small number

rookiemere · 13/05/2020 08:43

I live in Scotland and I'm now worried by the reports that English people will be flocking to beauty spots today.

Scottish government is pursuing policy of getting R well under 1 in order to restart things a bit and thought that English government was putting through minor relaxation of rules. Now I think that's what they're saying but also secretly pursuing herd immunity.

I'm at the stage where I don't really care what policy is pushed as long as my child can get an education and I can hope to see something other than what is within walking distance at some point in the future oh and meet a friend in the open air at a distance. But it seems obvious that mass mingling will push up the R rate and ultimately slow down greater relaxation.

I feel fairly despondent about it. I guess if I was in England I could at least take the opportunity to enjoy a nice coastal view before the inevitable crackdown.

SudokuBook · 13/05/2020 08:44

The “I’ll be keeping them home till there’s a vaccine” brigade invariably have kids still at the colouring in and Biff Chip and Kipper books stage of education. Bit different for those of us with kids in high school

DominaShantotto · 13/05/2020 08:45

They are winning. I’m hoping my theory on how the media are reporting the teaching unions so there will be a justification for the government pushing it through is correct - but any staff refusing to return to work without a reason better than “Sandra on fb told me” should be fired.

I’m done with it. When the kids go to grandmas I’m not getting out of bed again apart from to wee

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 13/05/2020 08:50

@rookiemere I know what you mean but I’m hoping NS after these 3 weeks will take a more relaxed approach for those areas like mine, rural area less than 30 deaths, no more than 5 in intensive care at any one time and think is currently 1. Hot spots could be closely monitored but I think it is unfair to treat the whole of Scotland the same

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 13/05/2020 08:54

I don't know how many I'm going to murder today but Harry is going to the vet. After my melt down last night we've checked his mouth and his gums are swollen. He's still fine in himself and has been playing with his toys which is positive but he's still having a problem eating, although it took him all night to eat a pouch which is unheard of.

Please send him positive thoughts today.

Mascotte · 13/05/2020 08:56

Think you'll all find that we are wrong to be worried about children! This is a "special time to spend with them" and that's from people "who know how precious life is".

I give up, that's irl.

DesmondTheMoonbear · 13/05/2020 08:57

PinkSparklyPussycat Thanks I'll be thinking of you and Harry today.

rookiemere · 13/05/2020 08:57

I hope so Alaska but it really feels as if every time there's a glimmer of hope it's getting pulled away at the minute.

I may need to avoid the media tonight as doubtless there will be the usual Covidiot headlines. Wonder what English government will do - say nothing, crack down or act surprised and disappointed that it happened- all of the above probably.

Mascotte · 13/05/2020 08:57

Good vibes for Harry @PinkSparklyPussyCat

"if you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs, and blaming it on you, if you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, and make allowance for their doubting too."

Come on murderers, heads up, we will be ok. We have stats, rational minds, each other and this thread. If you need to, step away from the school debate. I know I am. It could all look very different next week. We need to conserve our energy. Those grannies aren't going to murder themselves.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 13/05/2020 08:59

Thank you Mascotte. I'm trying to stay away from Google at the moment!

PineappleDanish · 13/05/2020 08:59

But there are resources online! Off you pop and teach your 17 year old his Advanced Higher Biology when you didn't even do the standard grade back in the day. You have no excuse, it's just laziness and your fault if they tank their exams.

If I'd wanted to be a teacher, I'd have done a BEd degree. I didn't.

Tappering · 13/05/2020 08:59

I'm having a bit of a wobble this morning. I said I would send my DD back to preschool as she really enjoys it and I really think the benefits of her going outweigh the risks. However, seeing the number of other parents who say their kids won't be attending I'm starting to feel a bit worried that I'm doing the wrong thing.

Call me cynical but I suspect a good chunk of those parents will end up sending their kids in. It's very easy to be a keyboard warrior on FB. It might take a few days, but I suspect the lure of being able to put kids into childcare and have the time back during the day - especially for those who are trying to work at home - will prove too much.

DominaShantotto · 13/05/2020 09:00

Well it’s 9 am and so far we’ve been bullied by the neighbour, dh is angry at me and dd1 has told me she will kill me. Just another day in hell.

This is every single day of my life these days

Drivingdownthe101 · 13/05/2020 09:00

Just got deleted on a schools thread. Maybe time I take a step away from the internet.

KateTheShrew · 13/05/2020 09:01

Morning all. There was just a really nice and positive interview on Radio 4 with a primary teacher from Denmark who's been back in school since 15 April, and a French secondary teacher whose students are due to return this week. Both gave constructive and encouraging descriptions of how they're handing things and said they didn't feel scared to be back at work.

Drivingdownthe101 · 13/05/2020 09:03

KateTheShrew someone tried to discuss the head teacher from Denmark yesterday and got 100’s of posts telling her she was ridiculous and naive, nothing they do there could possibly work here, we’re nothing like Denmark etc etc.
Positivity is not welcome in the land of the dementors!

Mascotte · 13/05/2020 09:03

True @SummerHouse! And in a way it's liberating as I wasn't that keen on them anyway 😃

I've accepted no school for the foreseeable.

Yes, google is not your friend @PinkSparklyPussyCat. Fingers crossed 💕

Grin thank you. Truly. I needed that.

I am 100% sending my DS to school the first day it's open to take him, what other people do doesn't worry me. What worries me is whether he'll get the chance at all.
