Fuck the ‘slower pace of life’. I’ve been either pregnant or breastfeeding for the best part of 7 years and I was finally getting chance to do stuff again!
I enjoyed my life anyway. The pace was fine. Why on earth would I want to slow it down?

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 13/05/2020 08:09

' Still, I'd rather be mauled by a dragon than catch THE RONA'

Everyone who calls it 'the rona' actually will get eaten by a dragon, because I am breeding some specially. I am splicing normal dragon genes with those of the hangriest seagull I could catch.
Not sure why it annoys me so much.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 13/05/2020 08:11

This is something I'm seeing a LOT of on SM this morning?
^“Good news kid, you get to go back to school!”
“Oh great, so the germs are gone?”
“Ummmm yeah, pretty much... I mean technically there’s more deaths per day than there was when they closed the school... but I’m sure it’s fine.”

“I can’t wait to play with my friends!”
“Well yeah, you might see some of your friends, but you won’t be able to touch them or play with them.”
“Why?”
“Because of the germs.”
“But there aren’t any germs now?!”
“Right....but there might be... so you can’t go close to your friends.”

“Oh well, at least I’ll see them.”
“Well, you might not see them all because you might not all be in the same classroom.”
“Oh, but I’ll be in my classroom though right?”
“Well you might not be because you’ll have to spread out a bit.”
“Spread out to where?”
“To the other classrooms.”
“But won’t the other classes be in their rooms?”
“No the other classes won’t be there.”
“Why?”
“Because of the germs.”
“But why am I the only one going back?”
“Ummm..... because you’re small and you can spread out more?... because you don’t take up so much space?!?.... honestly no one knows mate.”

“Oh well, at least I’ll see my teacher... but wait...Mum how will my teacher be in all the classrooms at once?”
“Well, you might not have your teacher.”
“Who will I have?”
“I don’t know...”

“Oh.... if I’m going back to school can we go and get my new school shoes? Remember you said I would have to get new shoes because my feet have grown?!”
“Right... yeah... it’s not safe to open the shops so we can’t get shoes.”
“But it is safe for me to go to school?”
“Yep, maybe... unless there’s a spike in the virus, then we might have to stay home again.”
“How will they know if there’s a spike in the virus though Mum?”
“Hospital admissions... and number of deaths.”
“But what if I’ve already got it by then, from going to school?”
“Well you probably won’t die because you’re young.”
“Do children not die then?”
“Most of them don’t.”
“But grownups do?”
“Some, yes.”
“So what about my teacher?”
“........?”

“Mum is it ok if I don’t go back to school? It doesn’t sound like it’s the right time yet”

“Yes mate that’s fine, you’re right, let’s stay home”^

Honestly who comes up with this shite? I was going to comment but after having a spectacular anti dementor tantrum on my Facebook last night. I just completely snapped.

Iwalkinmyclothing · 13/05/2020 08:11

I seem to exist in a state of irritation that every so often boils over into rage. I am sick to fucking death of people I know saying that everyone should just stay in until there is a vaccine or cure. Because they don't mean everyone, do they? They don't mean all the people who ensure there is food available for them to have delivered, they don't mean HCPs, they don't mean delivery workers, they don't mean people who keep the utilities running, they don't mean anyone whose absence from work would mean they couldn't get what they need through their lockdown.

My SIL works in education and oh no, she and her colleagues can't possibly return to work, they would all die... I asked how come I'm not fucking dead then, I have been at work throughout, a good number of my colleagues have had c19 (and all have survived so far, thank whatever you want to thank for that), why does she think it would be different for them? My mum has meltdowns over things like "your dad picked up the milk bottles without gloves and I touched a door he touched and didn't immediately have a bleach bath, that's it, we're both going to die and we will never see you again" and when I say, ffs your chances of catching it through that scenario are so tiny there's more chance I will achieve my 25 year ambition of marrying Jon Bon Jovi and ^even if you catch it you have a 90%+ chance of not dying she thinks I am awful.

I am just so fed up.

SunlightBaby · 13/05/2020 08:12

Morning fellow murderers.

I'm having a bit of a wobble this morning. I said I would send my DD back to preschool as she really enjoys it and I really think the benefits of her going outweigh the risks. However, seeing the number of other parents who say their kids won't be attending I'm starting to feel a bit worried that I'm doing the wrong thing.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 13/05/2020 08:14

Same here @Iwalkinmyclothing.

Drivingdownthe101 · 13/05/2020 08:16

Fed up too. Woke up this morning with a feeling of dread in my stomach about all the hyperbole that will no doubt be spouted about schools again today. It’s all bullshit.

Blobby10 · 13/05/2020 08:16

*@SunlightBaby * thats the worst part isn't it? You, a sane, rational, normal and level headed person make a decision based on your assessment of risk (which is, in fact, how we all operate in life!! eg Do we cross the road when we can see a car? We assess how fast its going, how fast we can run and decide accordingly)

Then the doubt starts, fuelled by the hysteria and panic fuelled few and you wonder - am I actually in the wrong for making a sane and sensible decision? It so hard Sad

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 13/05/2020 08:17

Livin - I saw that on FB and I think it might be the final straw from this person - I'm going to have to hide her posts. Before all this, I really liked her but her unquestioning compliance and relentless "just do what the government says and it will all be fine" cheeriness, alongside the doom-laden sharing of the "we're all going to DIE" if we leave the house has really thrown me.

savehalloween · 13/05/2020 08:18

I am honestly staggered by the posts about schools returning. I know it's hopefully not representative of all but from reading mumsnet teachers come across so badly.

I just can't imagine refusing to do my job until September, especially when there's really no evidence anything will be drastically different then.

So many different roles have been filled in this time without demanding to use PPE they don't need. And the science suggests children don't transmit it as much. Which is demonstrated here by the fact that there have been no school outbreaks or as far as I know teacher deaths, despite them working throughout with the highest risk kids (those of frontline NHS staff).

If the unions prevent this and put the mental heath and wellbeing of our children at the bottom of the pile, I'll be furious.

I really hope that come June 1st, the numbers returning are decent and it was all a lot of hot air. I'd imagine a week in, most parents would send their kids in when they realise they are in the minority of parents who haven't.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 13/05/2020 08:19

The lack of critical thinking skills really pisses me off.

OutwardBound2016 · 13/05/2020 08:20

We know teachers are special cases who cannot be put at any risk at all, BUT it’s alright for all those other plebs to go back to work to put food on their table, makes me so fucking angry, hope they all loose their jobs then they will see what real risk is all about.

GroEggAndHam · 13/05/2020 08:20

Going to ask my DH (who is much better with statistics) to do me a nice equation about risks of Covid-19 transmission in schools vs the amount of new DV in households with children that isn't being addressed.

And before I get flamed by a teacher because they're paid to educate and that they're not social workers

SAFEGUARDING CHILDREN IS EVERYONE'S BUSINESS and it's not happening enough at the moment.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 13/05/2020 08:21

My cleaner is coming back today.
So excited to see her!

PineappleDanish · 13/05/2020 08:22

The schools threads are totally pissing me off. Parents with one 8 year old and two furloughed adults at home saying "just educate your own kids" with no idea how that's impossible with three older children and two adults trying to work and pay the bills.

And I see the "3% of dying" poster has popped up saying all the usual shite about how she's risking her life going to work.

Bollocks and shit to the lot of it. Thoroughly pissed off today.

AnxiousElephant77 · 13/05/2020 08:25

God there's so many school threads it's making my head hurt

bookworm14 · 13/05/2020 08:28

The school threads are impacting my mental health to such an extent that I think it’s time for a break from MN. It’s clear that children’s needs mean less than nothing to these people. Frightening how many of them seem to be teachers.

Drivingdownthe101 · 13/05/2020 08:29

Same bookworm14. They’re tipping me over the edge.

HauntedGoatFart · 13/05/2020 08:29

Morning murderers. I had a rough day yesterday and had to take an extended break from the news and social media. It helped.

I am trying to accept that at this stage there is nothing I can do - school will open on 1st June or it won't, and I can only hope politicians aren't such populist mush as I fear and extend lockdown purely on the basis of popular sentiment.

The worst thing about this for me is seeing how many intelligent people, who I would have credited as scientifically informed people and non-credulous, spouting this garbage. Arf at the return of "miasma", although seeing as homeopaths still teach it on their "university" "courses", that's not entirely surprising.

Orangeblossom78 · 13/05/2020 08:30

Just remember it is just some people's opinion and lots of them are daft

I saw one saying schools are like care homes! meaning people in together. Totally missing that care homes contain the elderly! Confused

Thankfully these people are not in change of making the decisions and most people are reasonable / sensible. Well that's what I hope!

bookworm14 · 13/05/2020 08:32

I do hope you’re right Orangeblossom. At the moment the dementors seem to be winning.

Orangeblossom78 · 13/05/2020 08:34

the "3% of dying" poster

It's something like 0.4% for those up to around 50 years. Less for younger ones, 0.2%. and that is for all those (some heave health conditions)

The 3% thing I saw, on the 'worldometer' site and what that is about is the overall figure if you take all the people who died as a proportion including all the elderly (half are over 80!)

So, I think that is where that is coming from. And of course it is all probably less because no-one counts many mild cases.

SpnBaby1967 · 13/05/2020 08:35

I'm scared that the teachers arent seeing our children as lovely little human beings with endless potential and more as tiny walking germ grenades with the pin removed........

Orangeblossom78 · 13/05/2020 08:36

COVID-19 Fatality Rate by AGE:

*Death Rate = (number of deaths / number of cases) = probability of dying if infected by the virus (%). This probability differs depending on the age group. The percentages shown below do not have to add up to 100%, as they do NOT represent share of deaths by age group. Rather, it represents, for a person in a given age group, the risk of dying if infected with COVID-19.
