I think I finished the last thread by accident...

Ah! There you are.

Someone on the last thread said “ I am a bit sceptical of them, only because everyone now seems to be acting like the mask is a force field and aren’t properly distancing anymore”

But the whole point of a mask is you aren’t spraying everywhere. That’s why workplaces who can’t socially distance are supposed to use masks.

I actually would rather social distancing went out and masks came in, at least we could get transport back to normal and not queue for the supermarket.

But I do understand some people hate masks.

There are dementors in Tube unions who want the Tube shut.

Ready! (I've decided this is my Patronus )

I've just read they're expecting primary children to wear a mask when supervised by an adult. Seriously? I'm trying to imagine a scenario where a 5 year old could successfully wear a mask all day without licking it, flinging it off and then swapping with someone else.

LilacTree1 · 11/05/2020 17:57

My best friend has lost it a bit

I live in a tower block and today on the phone he said “OMG, you could loads of neighbours who have it” in a shocked way.

Um, yes....

LilacTree1 · 11/05/2020 17:58

heroku I think that was a suggestion made by a particular crazy union member, though scenes from China are depressing.

Mascotte · 11/05/2020 17:58

I'm changing my name to Maskotte to comply with government guidelines.

I’m going to brave the supermarket tonight

Hopefully no dementors....

Orangeblossom78 · 11/05/2020 17:59

If they expect children to wear masks in school that will be tricky for them to hear each other etc!

Orangeblossom78 · 11/05/2020 18:00

That was thoughtful of your neighbour Lilac (not) my family also went on about our 'population density' being higher in the city so I'm be much much more likely to catch it than them. Um thanks!

Orangeblossom78 · 11/05/2020 18:01

I also live in a flat so shared hallways and doors and manage to wash hands after coming in...we can minimise our 'high risk' Smile

BogRollBOGOF · 11/05/2020 18:04

It can't be seriously expected for children to wear masks with any effectiveness. I don't think I can manage without fidgeting and my impulse control is a bit better than a 5yo's.

I can't see DS tolerating one. He can't even tolerate trousers covering his legs.

I'll stick a Buff in the car, but I can't see me rushing anywhere where it may be required. The supermarket is as exciting as life gets after bin day.

I've had a few teacher friends sharing a description of the likely realities of teenagers having to wear one in the classroom. That one was funny Grin
Thank goodness I left between the fidget spinners and bottle flipping phases Wink

LilacTree1 · 11/05/2020 18:05

Orange it was my best friend who said it, not a neighbour

I was more surprised because he never struck me as someone who would be scared of the virus. He knows about the health problems I’ve had and issues with pneumonia and he’s never thought about it, we just get on with our lives.

I think somehow he’s swallowed the “stay safe at home” line.

MinesaPinot · 11/05/2020 18:08

A new thread??? Blimey that was quick.

Orangeblossom78 · 11/05/2020 18:10

Mine was my only sibling Lilac. Convinced they have very low risk in Scotland despite having 3 times as many cases as here. People are strange atm.

bookworm14 · 11/05/2020 18:13

Placemarking

Ah my favourite thread onto a new incarnation. I'm desperately wrestling with the thought of another 4 months of the kids at home. DH and I booked our annual leave today for the summer. Two weeks off each, no overlap as we need it for childcare. I'm so sad.

Do you think by the end of July he might be allowed to take them to his parents house in Wales? It's a family second home, no one lives there permanently but we spend a lot of time there. If he can take them and his Mum for two weeks and I can get a proper break (albeit working but no kids around) I might just make it through.

TeacupDrama · 11/05/2020 18:26

cases in Scotland are largely in the heavily populated central belt
NHS Highland which covers a huge area from Helensburgh( 45 minutes north of Glasgow) in South to Thurso approx 250 miles away this whole area has 300+ cases 12 in hospital and less than 5 in ICU ( because they don't give numbers if less than 5 as possible identifying)

However overall in Scotland it is true that R is not as low as England and the death rate has really only started to come down the last week
so I understand NS being a bit behind Boris in wanting to ease lockdown but she has to be different as if we are the same as England and open things in the same order as England then why independence

Whisper this very very quietly that the EU are doing the same opening primary schools first, ( Germany, Denmark Austria Norway) they opened them in France and Holland today bet there is some dementor saying already less children came out at 3pm than went in at 9am

rookiemere · 11/05/2020 18:30

I'm having to sit on my hands. Favourite FB dementor has captioned picture of people packed on the tube going to work "It's like they're set to self destruct mode". I so want to reply " Or perhaps they need to pay bills and have weighed up the relative risks" but I'm not brave enough. NB we're both comfortably off and have jobs that can be done from home.

Apolloanddaphne · 11/05/2020 18:31

Gosh these threads fill up quick!

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 11/05/2020 18:42

Mascotte · 11/05/2020 18:57

I'm so intrigued by this modelling stuff. I'm an artsy person and never gave much thought to how it was done.

How does one assess who's credible and reliable in these areas? I liked the sound of that guy.. but that's probably not scientific 😃

I'm here, with Foxy.

My Tesco delivery came today, full of beautiful gin, beer and mini twisters. 👍
