I think I finished the last thread by accident...

Leighhalfpennysthigh I’ve found you need to add text or the picture won’t post.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 11/05/2020 20:12

@Biscuitbiscuits Until the weather changed Harry's been sleeping under the barbecue. Today he was working with me as I had the heating on!

He seems to be ok at the moment, and I've told him to behave himself as a trip to the vets won't be pleasant at the moment. Apparently I'd have to put him in the boot of the car, the vet will collect him, wipe him down with hibiscrub, treat him, wipe him down again and then put him back in the boot! I'm hoping the threat of those indignities might convince him to behave!

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 11/05/2020 20:18

Have any of you considered that your thread titles are offensive to all those living daily with the challenges of watching a family member with dementia

My father died from dementia and I post regularly on here and no, I dont find it offensive. "Dementors" refers to a fictional Harry Potter character from a book. It has nothing to do with a medical diagnosis.

DominaShantotto · 11/05/2020 20:18

Yeah take it up with that JK Rowling lady. We're referring to those creatures in Harry Potter.

Biscuitbiscuits · 11/05/2020 20:19

@PinkSparklyPussyCat Yes a vet visit would be a nightmare right now! Our village one has closed, only the hq of the chain is open 8 miles away, so I wouldn't be keen on an outing just now.

Oh god, can you imagine having to scrub down a grumpy hissing injured cat. 😟

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 11/05/2020 20:20

If you google "dementor" you will find nothing whatsoever to do with dementia. They are two separate words.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 11/05/2020 20:20

Well I'm fucked off. Up til today we've been happily meeting in my parents garden, staying 2m away, but letting the kids see their grandparents and generally being a bit social. Outside, 2m or more distant. Sometimes they drop into our garden. No need to go in the house, path down the side at theirs, driveway at ours.

Now because this new guidance says only meet one person from another household in a park, they won't do it anymore. Scared of what the neighbours might think.

Fucks sake!! There is no logical reasoning for it being ok to be in the supermarket, passing multiple people in the aisles at, let's be fucking honest, less than 2m, or sitting on a park surrounded by people from multiple households, but not ok to sit two households at each end of a bloody big patio. Arghh!!!

DominaShantotto · 11/05/2020 20:20

First "this little lad is not some kind of experimental guinea pig and won't be going back to school" sighted on my FB for the evening. Child in question isn't even in a year group allowed to go back and the post is from a half-wit father who is always posting trite gems of parenting wisdom (I see them cos his wife is a friend of mine and he always tags her in every single post) and well, the parenting is interesting.

MagdaS · 11/05/2020 20:22

We've had a letter today inviting my son to take part in a CV testing research study - he's been chosen at random from NHS records.

We'll do it - anything that might help to understand community transmission better has to be a positive in my eyes in getting us out of this mess.

I'm feeling a bit glum as work have been going on again about how we are never going to return to working in the office as we used to - as we are going to get rid of one of our buildings - and everyone has to be more agile. Apparently we will only go into the office to 'collaborate'. Coming in for a meeting and leaving again, whilst perching on a stool to catch up with emails for 15 minutes either side, is going to be absolutely no good for my productivity or motivation and I can see my team leaving in droves if this way of working is made permanent. None of us are enjoying it.

I read an interesting article about the buzz of others working round you making it easier to concentrate and be productive and that is so true for me.

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 11/05/2020 20:23

@magdas

That sounds interesting! what kind of study?

AnxiousElephant77 · 11/05/2020 20:25

I've not been to Morrison's during lockdown yet but I can't tell you how excited I am to go on Friday. It's like looking forward to a night out!

Cattermole · 11/05/2020 20:26

@MagdaS - me too with the letter. I'm in two minds tbh - I mean if it came back positive, and then what? Do you self-isolate retroactively or something?

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 11/05/2020 20:30

@DominaShantotto I'm hitting the 30 day snooze a lot of FB these days!

fartingsparkles · 11/05/2020 20:33

@bark I need to watch the weather and see mullets! I often trim my own hair, as did my dm. When it looks too far gone I toddle off to the hairdressers and then start all over again!

MagdaS · 11/05/2020 20:35

@AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter it's Department for Health, Imperial College, Ipsos Mori and NHS and it's to help the government develop it's approach to CV testing. My child is sent a swab and we test and they send us the results and then use the global results for research.

@Cattermole I assume you would self-isolate retroactively. I think I've had it, so chances are he has too, but was asymptomatic. But even if we did need to self isolate we are both WFH anyway so it wouldn't be a massive sacrifice.

Mascotte · 11/05/2020 20:35

Which ponytail haircut should I use? I just need the ends offf

OP posts:
MagdaS · 11/05/2020 20:35

By global I mean all the results - it's not a global research project.

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 11/05/2020 20:37

@magdas

Oooh interesting! My friend in NYC just got an anti body test- she gets the results later this week (she's a key worker there). Very interested to see how that goes

OutwardBound2016 · 11/05/2020 20:40

The dementors nearly got me today, had a moment of self doubt....then had a word with myself and reporting of duty.

sonjadog · 11/05/2020 20:44

Regarding school opening, I Iive in Norway and nursery schools and grades 1-4 went back to school three weeks ago. People were skeptical before it happened, but so far so good. There have been a few cases when someone has tested positive and the staff and children who associated with that person have had to quarantine, but no major problem. I wouldn't be entirely unoptimistic that the same will happen in the UK.

Secondary schools went back today. More kids who travel in to school from a wider area. Maybe there will be more cases in a few weeks´ time, but no-one knows as yet.

BarkandCheese · 11/05/2020 20:45

I did the ponytail cut where you flip it all over your face, twist into a ponytail it then cut the bottom off straight across. It makes layers around your face, but it only works on fairly long straight or slightly wavy hair.

Mascotte · 11/05/2020 20:46

Thanks @Bark that's my hair so I think I'll try.

Mascotte · 11/05/2020 20:47

And @sonjadog interesting. I really really want schools to go back here, my boy is quietly suffering

BarkandCheese · 11/05/2020 20:48

Please don’t blame me if it goes wrong 😬!
