Sky News loving the dementing this morning. All full report on Ecuador and the 'smell of death'. Switched that off.

DianneWhatcock · 02/05/2020 11:05

Yay and hello all Brew

Orangeblossom78 · 02/05/2020 11:06

Hi, I started another but have linked here, think this is a better title anyway moving on...

Orangeblossom78 · 02/05/2020 11:07

I am oddly enjoying the Times...got a free subscription and they are on about the joys of eating chips wandering in the park...I think are not the only people bored of the general dementoring around

Orangeblossom78 · 02/05/2020 11:10

You don't think some might think we mean dementia and start going on about that? It's not about dementia btw anyone new, just about people who enjoy depressing and patronising others.

Oh also not about people with depression in general. Just in case that causes any drama.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 02/05/2020 11:12

Morning all. I have coffee cake and a baseball bat...I'm ready for the dementor apocalypse.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 02/05/2020 11:12

Hello, loved the other thread.
One of the things I have noticed is, you know how much of the research is appearing as preprints because obviously scientists want to put it out there straight away? Dementors have noticed this and are using it as an excuse to dismiss any covid related research with vaguely optimistic findings: if it's not PEER REVIEWED it doesn't count as science apparently- one person said exactly that and another person said if it's not peer reviewed it's just anecdote... Obviously this is entirely selectively applied.

Hello! Place marking.

psychomath · 02/05/2020 11:14

My patronus is summoned!

I've been thinking of ordering takeaway for collection from a shop on the other side of the park and eating it while wandering back. Not quite a picnic, but maybe a decent substitute under the circumstances?

Orangeblossom78 · 02/05/2020 11:16

I have an urge at times to chase some people with hands held out in front at times in the park. Have managed to stop myself so far. the ones who leap into bushes when there's no reason and space around..

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 02/05/2020 11:22

DH has just gone out shopping
He's desperate to get back to work and feel useful
His mental health was fragile after a tough 2019 and he was just getting back on his feet
Watching what this is doing to him mentally is so difficult and must be magnified a million times with other people and their mental health
There are times when I really fucking hate the dementors and their gleeful joy at misery
Do they not understand that just because people survive covid that they may not go on to live long and happy lives
The mental health cost of this will be counted in lost lives and millions of pounds
But hey so long as we all stay the fuck at homeAngry

YAY! hello everyone

Waxonwaxoff0 · 02/05/2020 11:27

Yet another anonymous post to my local Facebook spotted page "reminding" people that there is a lockdown on and they've seen an increase in traffic this week, where is everyone going?

Hmm
Waxonwaxoff0 · 02/05/2020 11:30

Just spoke to my mum this morning, she's taking a hamper of treats over to a colleague today. Colleague lives with her elderly parents, one of them has been diagnosed with coronavirus and she's caring for both of them. Hopefully the hamper will make her day. Smile

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 02/05/2020 11:31

Its going to be a literal shit show next week when the exit strategy is announced/discussed.

Brace yourselves for the mongers of doom carrying villager pitchforks!

awww thats a lovely gesture wax

Teateaandmoretea · 02/05/2020 11:31

Do they not understand that just because people survive covid that they may not go on to live long and happy lives

I think the generous government packages alongside payment holidays mean quite a lot of people who are short termist about money are quite happy right now because they are safe from the virus and have enough money. There are going to be more mental health issues caused when the economy tanks but they just can’t see that angle. They just think ‘we have enough money, a house, are safe from the virus this is the best option’

Tappering · 02/05/2020 11:35

All this 'may I remind you' stuff is pissing me right off.

No! No you may not remind me. I'm aware, everyone on FB is aware, everyone in the fucking UK is aware.

You aren't doing it because you genuinely think people need to be reminded. You're doing it because you want to be self-righteous and put yourself at the centre of a smugness rally, where you all whip yourselves up into a frenzy about how awful everyone else is.

I'd have more bloody respect for you if you were honest and said 'there's a lockdown on and I am going to judge the fuck out of everyone I see who appears not to be following the rules'.

And who the fuck do you think you are anyway? Who appointed you Head Girl and arbiter of everyone's behaviour and choices?

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 02/05/2020 11:36

I've had a disagreement on FB with someone who doesn't think lockdown should be lifted. Apparently it's not hard to keep in touch now because of technology, it's not like during WW2! I tried to point out that it's no good if you can't keep a roof over your head or put food on the table but I don't need to worry, there's help out there. I gave up at that point

iamapixie · 02/05/2020 11:40

Thank you. I'm such a nerd that I started note-taking on the percentages, facts and source materials etc so that I would have key information at my fingertips to back up the few sensible PPs on other threads trying to point out that we are all not necessarily going to die if someone simply asks questions or vents frustrations, or 'admits' to depression.
But I gave up because what's the point... So many pps don't want facts, and certainly not in a post of the kind of length that would show the necessary nuance.

Teateaandmoretea · 02/05/2020 11:42

In terms of WW2 dd1 reckons being evacuated didn’t sound that bad in comparison to this (she has romantic visions of living on a farm with her sister with nice people and being allowed to freely roam around climbing trees as she fancied with her friends). While obviously it wasn’t that straightforward it is basically what they get told in history lessons.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 02/05/2020 11:43

Another one I saw on Facebook was from a self employed cleaner asking if anyone needs an end of tenancy clean as she hasn't got much work at the moment. The first reply was "YOU AREN'T SUPPOSED TO BE GOING IN PEOPLE'S HOUSES."

She was offering end of tenancy cleans. The houses would be empty. God forbid anyone who is struggling right now wants to earn a bit of extra cash. Hmm
