Prime Minister writing his resignation letter, but putting a late Summer date on it. His baby is due in June.....

What a crock of shite.

macaroniandpizza · 21/04/2020 23:26

Believe it when i see it...Hmm

Medievalist · 21/04/2020 23:26

What is the source of this speculation OP?

OP is too shy to say 🙄

Singinginshower · 21/04/2020 23:28

I'm not a Boris fan at all, but don't people think he is entitled to the same recuperative time as anybody else spending time in Intensive Care?

AlternativePerspective · 21/04/2020 23:30

The press are currently publishing whatever they think people will read. So in the past few weeks we’ve had:

London is going into lockdown; schools will re-open on the 7th of May/schools will re-open after may half term/schools will re-open in September; We will come out of lockdown in May and bars and restaurants will be open by the end of the summer/bars and restaurants will be closed until Christmas...

The list goes on, but it’s all driven by the need for journalists to create the illusion that they have some kind of insider knowledge. Except they keep contradicting themselves so it’s not going awfully well.

BertiesLanding · 21/04/2020 23:31

Pics or it aint true.

Proppedupinbed · 21/04/2020 23:31

If he was sensible that would be a very neat option for himself and the conservative party.

  • Boris can't do a crisis - riots in london, floods, now coronavirus, even hiding in a fridge to avoid piers morgan
  • No-deal brexit on top of this will be horrendous and he won't be able to have a holiday or get sick to avoid it
  • He was funded a lot of money by financial speculations - they'll be wanting a pound of flesh
  • The shit is beginning to hit and fan about CV and will get worse
  • Some of the tory papers are beginning to turn on him

Why not resign now giving the baby and illness as an excuse while still retaining some sort of halo effect? Also the conservative party either gets some other poor sap to do no-deal brexit or they have a reasonable excuse to pull out. Note that june/july is also the time that the transition period would need to be extended.

I am not sure how Boris can fail upwards from this, but I wouldn't be surprised.

wowfudge · 21/04/2020 23:32

Oh gawd - if there is a grain of truth in this, please god don't let that slithey tove Gove replace him. I don't think I could bear to hear the smug in that man's voice if he became PM.

sam221 · 21/04/2020 23:33

If he resigned it would be the first responsible thing he has done in his life.

lyralalala · 21/04/2020 23:33

Also at the moment he is in a no-lose position. If things keep going badly or get worse then he can resign as "poor Boris, worked all his life for that and then had to resign because he nearly died"

Whereas if things go well, or can be turned well, then he's "brave Boris who saved the country despite nearly dying".

At the moment he's also got the "Hancock/Gove/Sunak did X without his ok while he was recuperating" line available if he needs or wants to hang someone else out to dry.

wowfudge · 21/04/2020 23:33

True

StuckBetweenDarknessAndLight · 21/04/2020 23:34

It's been his life's work to get to PM!

Yes - but he thought it would all be champagne and shagging - didn't think he'd have to work for a living.

Be careful what you wish for, eh BoJo?

campion · 21/04/2020 23:39

Led us out of the EU and into what EnthusiasmIsDisturbed? We're not really out until the negotiations are completed, and they have hardly begun. A no deal Brexit won't help the economy.

I can't see him being robust enough to handle that and waffle his way out of this mismanaged covid horror show.

He's had a terrible personal experience and may have lost some of his appetite for power now he knows how much responsibility goes with it.
But vanity is hard to shake off.

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 21/04/2020 23:40

As we are all currently taking part in a sci-fi movie with a cast of zillions, it's safe to say the unexpected isn't as unexpected as it might have been in boring old 2019.

But I think the more satisfying story arc would have Boris make a triumphant reappearance at his Downing Street door, this Thurs or next, to clap vigorously once again for the NHS before properly taking back the reins of power the following week.

I could be wrong. I haven't consulted with the scriptwriters.

Oliversmumsarmy · 21/04/2020 23:41

I’m not in any way in the know but I have seen quite a lot of talk about this on social media

So it must be true

JaniceBattersby · 21/04/2020 23:44

‘Gaining ground in the newspapers’? I work for a newspaper. It’s not gaining any ground here. HTH.

Topseyt · 21/04/2020 23:47

Oh FFS!! What a crock of utter shit.

PerpetualCircle · 21/04/2020 23:47

There are rumours that the cabinet is split regarding the exit of lockdown. I wonder if the resignation is a political threat. Like it or not, Boris won the last election for the tories.

TomTomRunner · 21/04/2020 23:48

To resign, he'd have conclude he's a useless muppet, which being a Tory Bullenden Club boy, is as likely as the second coming.

Swingingsally · 21/04/2020 23:49

It's not Megan the surrogate, it's Paul scofield, it's why he moved out of his wife's place and its not Iraq they're all moving too, its north Korea. That's why Kim Jong has been missing recently, he's personally designing the love nest.

CendrillonSings · 21/04/2020 23:50

Tory Bullenden Club boy

Learn to spell.

LuluJakey1 · 21/04/2020 23:54

Wouldn't surprise me if it was true. If he wants a way out he has one at the minute. He may have had an epiphany with what has happened to him, or may just not want to face the shit that is coming his way. He's not a detail person and the only way through this will be a detailed long-term plan. It's not his style to plan in detail for the long-term. He is a liar when the going gets tough and it is going to get very tough. Every minute of the last 4 months will be poured over and he will face questions about his actions, decisions and leadership. He could go now and not face the musc.

Proppedupinbed · 21/04/2020 23:54

Whereas if things go well, or can be turned well, then he's "brave Boris who saved the country despite nearly dying".

Add to that the huge(ish) majority he got in the election. There are people who think that he is great and he would be patted on the back for years afterwards.
Or put up with years of hell with conservative party backstabbing (because they will come for him eventually), public demands and press criticism.

Always think, what would be the best outcome for Boris? Also this time it would be the best outcome for the country - a rare time when both outcomes align!

It's probably just speculation though because it is desirable ...sadly.

tobee · 21/04/2020 23:57

Paul Scofield? Now that would be a turn up for the books!

neveradullmoment99 · 22/04/2020 00:09

He is like a child. Run away when the goings tough! Blame everyone else! Wouldn't surprise me tbh.
