So, honestly...how much are you really drinking?

Hi,

Just that really. Been hearing so much about lockdown drinking becoming an issue.

I'll be honest, mine has been creeping up over the past week or so and this weather certainly isn't helping.

The gin was opened yesterday 😬 but usually it's a couple of glasses of wine most afternoons and a bit more over the weekend.

This isn't going to go on forever, so should we really worry that much if our drinking creeps up a bit?

What about you? Are you drinking more? Are you okay with it under the circumstances?

I've had one gin since this all started and I didn't even finish that. Alcohol just doesn't bother me.
Please don't ask about crisps and Pepsi Max though because that is something different altogether Blush

ssd · 09/04/2020 14:42

None. Eating instead.

GreyGardens88 · 09/04/2020 14:46

I've had a bottle of wine this week already so far and I will be on the gin this weekend Shock

I drank a bottle of Baileys in about 5 days, finished it about a week ago. Haven't had anything since.

I did make a cake using 75mls of cheap whisky if that counts. The recipe calls for bourbon or rum, but I had the whisky leftover from sauce for haggis, so I used that instead. I have to say, it was probably better than the ones I have made with bourbon.

TSSDNCOP · 09/04/2020 14:48

2 glasses of wine on Masterchef nights and several on Saturday and Sunday.

On the plus side my biscuit count has plunged and I'm walking or cycling for my permitted period per day.

turnandfacethenamechange · 09/04/2020 14:49

Worrying amount.

EugenesAxe · 09/04/2020 14:50

The same I’d say. About 10–14 units a week; I’m preferring beer at the moment; think it’s the heat.

workshy44 · 09/04/2020 14:51

Yes, generally only have wine Friday & Sat now Sunday too although I have found a fairly low alcohol version which I love so don't feel too bad

Ohffs66 · 09/04/2020 14:52

Every night here. Not loads every night, but considerably more than usual as we usually try not to drink too much in the week and that's gone right down the pan. Tesco shop today included large bottle of gin, 5 x 4 packs of beers and 3 bottles of wine Blush

OhLook · 09/04/2020 15:02

I'd quite like to have a drink. I don't want to go to the shop though. I can survive on the food I have here for a while so I can't justify it.

honeybee1986 · 09/04/2020 15:02

Every day at the moment a double gin every night or two glasses of wine . Should feel guilty as it's a bit too much but who cares at the moment . With kids in the house it's the only thing I look forward too in the evenings 😂

NeverDropYourMoonCup · 10/04/2020 00:15

None at all. I don't think I've had anything since Christmas/New Year. It isn't a necessity in my life, unlike teabags or coffee. Although I have thought a couple of times that a gin and rose lemonade would have been lovely this week when it's been sunny.

DP, to my surprise, hasn't had anything since before lockdown. I think he's probably lost about two stone as a result. Jammy git.

dryishjan · 10/04/2020 00:29

I'm drinking less. 3/4 alcohol free days and then either a few ciders or a few glasses of wine rather than far too much wine in one sitting.

Currently awake as alcohol free night and can't sleep Angry

Titsywoo · 10/04/2020 00:33

Not much. I stopped drinking years ago as it just makes me feel anxious and i don't need that right now. Im having 2 on friday night when we do online games with friends and 2 on saturday when i do a zoom call with my girl friends. 4 a week is 4 more than i used to drink though as i only drank when out which is less than once a month.

maddy68 · 10/04/2020 00:35

I'm drinking way less. I'm a social drinker and I don't have anyone to be sociable with

managedmis · 10/04/2020 02:05

At least 2 glasses per night

Wine is opened at 3pm

🍷

FabbyChix · 10/04/2020 03:26

I don’t drink ever. I did twenty years ago and then realised that I’d left work and thought can’t wait for a drink. That was it for me. Having one for enjoyment but when it becomes a need it’s not a choice. I’m single and I’d never see anyone who couldn’t go weeks without a drink.

missfliss · 10/04/2020 08:40

Had 1/2 bottle of wine last night as was celebrating a few days off work.
My first alcohol since Feb. Was in bed asleep by 9!

Feel a bit foggy this morning as a result and remember exactly why I rarely drink these days.

SugarSugarShimmy · 11/04/2020 11:41

Drinking loads. Lockdown is just boring on my own in evening and it’s a distraction. Probably averaging a bottle a night....

PainAuChocolatAndBlackCoffee · 11/04/2020 12:29

Well had first (almost) dry night last night, but that was because I was hungover from the night before, so hardly an achievement 🤦‍♀️

By almost, I mean DP automatically brought out a glass of wine with dinner and I had one sip and thought... nope 🤢 not there yet.

I know today and tomorrow won't be dry - the sun is out, it's Easter etc, but next week will be getting back on track with the 3 on, 4 off. I.e, just at weekends 💪

Not drinking at all. Working 6 days (& nights) out of 10 and it takes me long enough to sort out my sleep, let alone throwing alcohol in the mix.

Meanwhile DH has added multiple bottles of wine and beer cases onto the delivery shop. He's WFH, so it doesn't matter as much apparently. Confused
