So, honestly...how much are you really drinking?

Hi,

Just that really. Been hearing so much about lockdown drinking becoming an issue.

I'll be honest, mine has been creeping up over the past week or so and this weather certainly isn't helping.

The gin was opened yesterday 😬 but usually it's a couple of glasses of wine most afternoons and a bit more over the weekend.

This isn't going to go on forever, so should we really worry that much if our drinking creeps up a bit?

What about you? Are you drinking more? Are you okay with it under the circumstances?

None (pregnant). If I wasn't I'd be on it at 4pm every day after work finishes, and earlier at the weekend.. probably a good thing that I can't!

WingBingo · 08/04/2020 14:17

I keep forgetting to have a couple of alcohol free days.

I usually have them Monday and Tuesday but as it feels like a long holiday I keep drinking gin.

TheNavigator · 08/04/2020 14:17

I'm working from home and we have deliberately maintained our weekly routine and just drink at the weekends it helps keep some structure to the week.

Zero.
And I have two open bottles of red and white for risotto and lasagne sauces. Too scared to drink a drop in case it lowers my immunity or something Blush.

ethelredonagoodday · 08/04/2020 14:21

Far too much. Last night and night before none, every night before that, since we locked down, several drinks. 🤦🏻‍♀️
Whoever said Christmas levels is right.

Ninkanink · 08/04/2020 14:23

Being fairly careful. If I want to have a glass or two with dinner or a few glasses of wine of an evening, I will, but it’s not every evening or even most evenings. Have had a Prosecco brunch once, and had a couple of beers in the afternoon a couple of times. But we do have at least a couple of alcohol-free days/nights in a row every few days.

Jeleste · 08/04/2020 14:24

I usually have a cocktail in the afternoon. I make smoothies for the kids and just top mine up with alcohol. But i make them quite weak.
Then a glass of wine at dinner and maybe another 1-2 glasses afterwards while watching tv.

PainAuChocolatAndBlackCoffee · 08/04/2020 14:25

Ah, well I don't feel so bad now Grin

I actually keep hoping for bad weather, as then I wouldn't be so tempted, but we're lucky to have a garden and I'll be honest, sitting in the afternoon sun with a glass or 2 (or 3 or 4 🤫) of wine does take the edge off the craziness.

None. Teetotal here but i have thought about getting some wine in for the longer evenings but i know it'll be a slippery slope.

Ninkanink · 08/04/2020 14:27

I believe in enjoying life to the full. Especially in difficult and trying times! So if you can sit out in the sun and have a glass or two and feel calm and happy, why not!

userxx · 08/04/2020 14:28

Way too much 😞. Must admit, drinking without my friends is nowhere near as much fun.

suggestionsplease1 · 08/04/2020 14:30

Yep, I'm drinking most evenings, although I try not to start too early as afternoon drinking just makes me feel sleepy.

EggBaconBeans · 08/04/2020 14:32

Absolutely loads.

Every day.

Start round about three o'clock.

Usually half a bottle of wine a day

I never normally have an alcohol problem.

AuntieMarys · 08/04/2020 14:33

4 nights a week...3 double gins. No wine.

Heismyopendoor · 08/04/2020 14:34

Nothing. I haven’t touched alcohol in a few years. Before that I never even kept alcohol in the house.

Northernsoullover · 08/04/2020 14:36

I'm not. I gave it up last year. I would dread to think how much I'd be drinking if I hadn't. It does lower your immune system and it gives you anxiety so I'm really happy not to be..

LoveFameTragedy · 08/04/2020 14:37

Too much. Not buying any more for the next few weeks though.

PumpkinParent · 08/04/2020 14:39

More than I usually do, that’s for sure. Am now trying to limit it to three nights per week and then one glass (mostly). I am experiencing a daily desire to have a glass of wine in a way that I never have before. I am quite conscious that if I don’t exercise some self-control, I’ll just gain more weight through lack of proper exercise and empty calories.

NerrSnerr · 08/04/2020 14:39

For the first couple of weeks I drank too much and had hangovers a couple of weekends in a row. I'm now working overtime most weekends and scaling back my drinking to just having a glass on a Saturday.

Bibidy · 08/04/2020 14:44

Yeah definitely a bit more regularly.

Having at least 1 most evenings, although trying to keep it to every other day, not so much as I'm worried about the amount but more because of how replenishing it bumps up our already massive food shopping bill now we're home all the time.

I have to admit I've been enjoying a drink in the evenings lately, it seems to make it easier to draw a line between the working day and the evening hours.

RiftGibbon · 08/04/2020 14:58

No more than usual. I had 2 large gins the weekend before last, a g&t Friday night and a glass of wine with my dinner last Tuesday.

merryhouse · 08/04/2020 14:58

Same as before. One beer with Friday evening tv, one beer with Saturday evening tv, glass or two of parsnip sherry before Sunday dinner. Possibly a whisky or Bailey's at about 10.30 on any of those three nights. I imagine we'll open a bottle of wine for this Sunday's dinner.

(This is the result of a conscious effort to move away from the amounts we had been drinking Grin)

Connie222 · 08/04/2020 15:00

Jack shit as I’m pregnant.

If I wasn’t, my god, I’d be on it.

troppibambini · 08/04/2020 15:06

I've stopped.
I could feel it was creeping up and I was having a glass or two every day...
My dad was an alcoholic who died a horrible death from it. It fucking terrifies me, the thought of ever become dependant in it.
I know it's my issue though but I do think it's so so easy to start on that slippery slope.

BlingLoving · 08/04/2020 15:18

I was drinking most nights, with the odd night off. But I realised the amount was starting to creep up. So for the last week or so I've made much more effort to ensure that I have at least 2 nights of no drinking a week and that when I am drinking I'm not drinking a lot.

So I think in the last week I've had 2 nights off drinking completely, 2 nights with a bit too much eg about half a bottle and the rest of the time has been a medium glass.
