So, honestly...how much are you really drinking?

Hi,

Just that really. Been hearing so much about lockdown drinking becoming an issue.

I'll be honest, mine has been creeping up over the past week or so and this weather certainly isn't helping.

The gin was opened yesterday 😬 but usually it's a couple of glasses of wine most afternoons and a bit more over the weekend.

This isn't going to go on forever, so should we really worry that much if our drinking creeps up a bit?

What about you? Are you drinking more? Are you okay with it under the circumstances?

I’m drinking like I’m on holiday. WineHmm

SugarSugarShimmy · 08/04/2020 22:34

@EggBaconBeans half a bottle of wine is marginally more liquid than a can of Coke so how are you stretching that out by drinking ‘loads’ from 3pm onwards!

jackstini · 08/04/2020 22:39

More than I should be
I had such a good dry January and was aiming for 200 drink free days this year but this situation is making it very hard

Managed only 2 alcohol free days in 11 and had almost a bottle of wine tonight

I have no motivation for exercise either

More than usual. I’m not really a big drinker, but I’ve had a few rum & cokes over the last few evenings as I’ve had toothache for the last 3 days - it’s quite painful, had to go for a lie down earlier as it was getting bad. And I can’t obviously go to the dentist either. I did speak to her over the phone yesterday but she could only advise me. On closer inspection today, with a little mirror, i think part of a filling has broke off Sad

BillyAndTheSillies · 08/04/2020 22:42

Not too much. Mainly because I'm at home with DH who is teetotal, used to hate opening a bottle of wine because it just became Bolognese fodder as I'd forget to drink it.

I'm currently averaging a bottle of wine every three days, although DH had a Hmmmoment today when I wandered in to the living room with a glass of wine at about 12:30. My normal wine is running low and I'll be left with champagne soon, which I'm reluctant to open because it would mean I'd have to get through the whole bottle in one sitting.

Really conscious of not being hungover with two kids to look after through the day as well, I'm in a bad enough mood as it is let alone being hungover.

lotusbell · 08/04/2020 22:44

Nothing. I don't anyway so don't see a reason why I would start now!

Pipandmum · 08/04/2020 22:46

I'm off alcohol for Lent but am really looking forward to Friday! I don't see any of my friends drinking more - some drink a bottle of wine or more a day, some hardly any at all, but that hasn't changed from the norm - but everyone is saying they are eating a lot more.

Tr1skel1on · 08/04/2020 22:48

Honestly. Like I shouldn't be on MN. My strictly only a few units a week only on Friday or Saturday has been thrown out of the window. I had a vodka and tonic at 5pm today when cooking a BBQ. It was bloody lovely. I have 2 preteen DC, 1 with autism, a D H working every hour there is, 2 elderly parents, definitely in the sheilded group and my sister is stranded in East Africa. Damn right I'm drinking more than I should. Hey ho.

whattodo2019 · 08/04/2020 23:02

Just drank a bottle of white wine...
Drank a bottle last night too. However, it's the first alcohol I've drink for a Month... only
Drinking it because it's absolutely delicious and knocked it back too quickly..

colouringinpro · 08/04/2020 23:10

A lot too much. And probably only one AF night since lockdown started. It's not ideal Confused

Dowser · 08/04/2020 23:16

Nothing...
But my chocolate eating is going through the roof.

BadgertheBodger · 08/04/2020 23:26

Definitely Christmas levels but I can’t really bring myself to be too bothered. I don’t get hangovers unless I’ve drunk a horrifying amount though and I ran out on Sunday so won’t be getting any more in until I next go shopping, probably on Saturday but depends how long the food lasts and I’m doing very well at stretching that out for now apart from crisps DH hardly drinks at all (frontline NHS) and he cracked through a case of beer over the weekend when he was off. He thought I’d been at them!

maddy68 · 08/04/2020 23:30

I'm drinking far less. It's like every day is a weekday. And there is no weekend

oobedobe · 08/04/2020 23:32

We are just sticking to our regular drinking, friday night couple of beers, saturday night plenty of g&ts or moscow mules while we video chat with friends. Occasional red wine with a Sunday dinner.

It keeps the week separate from the weekend, I am homeschooling the kids and DH is WFH fulltime. It is nice to 'look forward' to the weekend part!

EggBaconBeans · 08/04/2020 23:43

Sugar

That's just the wine... forgot to mention the gin GinGrinGrin

AnnaC2020 · 09/04/2020 00:22

None because I’m pregnant but absolutely gagging on a strawberry daiquiri or a glass of Prosecco Grin

Deathraystare · 09/04/2020 07:45

None. I hardly ever drink at home. I think it is a slippery slope drinking alone. I only get a bit of drink in at Christmas or my birthday which is around New Year anyway. I do sometimes drink around my friend's but we did not drink last time we met up.

I can do without it, thanks! Just hope I don't run out of tea bags!!!!

BrandyandBabycham · 09/04/2020 07:57

I have a drink problem so sticking to tea. Hadn’t had any wine during the first 2 weeks of lockdown but caved & bought a bottle of wine on Sunday when we went out for milk 😢 I drank the lot in a few hours so that’s it now. Wish I could have a glass or two but it’s all or nothing.

Northernsoullover · 09/04/2020 08:12

If anyone here is concerned about their drinking and they are a Facebook user there is a private group named 'The Unexpected Joy of Being Sober' named after (but not affiliated) with the book.
Its full of people of all ages who had become a little too fond of wine o clock..
If you aren't sure if your drinking is a problem try a week off and see how you find it. I realised that I may have an issue when I couldn't go more than one night without it. Even if it was only a glass or two (but it was usually double that).

PainAuChocolatAndBlackCoffee · 09/04/2020 08:15

I'm so annoyed at myself. Had a G&T before dinner and we intended that to be it, but then cracked open a bottle of sauvignon and a glass was supposed to be it..... Confused you know how it goes - bottle gone.

I am normally a 3 on, 4 off girl, but that's gone out the window!

Going to start a 30 day challenge work out today, because I already feel a bit wobbly 😳 so hopefully that will give me a bit of a kick up the arse to get more healthy generally.

BilboBercow · 09/04/2020 08:22

A lot. Every other night at least

pointythings · 09/04/2020 08:24

Same amounts as always, so no weekday drinking and limited on weekends. But I'm careful about alcohol because my late husband was an alcoholic.

Justabadwife · 09/04/2020 08:24

I never normally drink at home. We are talking maybe 4 times in 8 years I've had a drink in my house. Last week I bought a bottle of raspberry gin, me and dp have a glass each maybe 2 mid afternoon most days sat in the garden.

DragonMamma · 09/04/2020 08:30

Lots more.

I’ve had CV recently so didn’t drink for almost 2 weeks but I’ve had wine the last 3 nights and a bottle each time.

We were due to be abroad for Easter so I’m giving no fucks because I would have been pickled for that so I’m just having what I like!

Walkthedinosauuuuur · 09/04/2020 08:33

Nothing at all
