So, honestly...how much are you really drinking?

Hi,

Just that really. Been hearing so much about lockdown drinking becoming an issue.

I'll be honest, mine has been creeping up over the past week or so and this weather certainly isn't helping.

The gin was opened yesterday 😬 but usually it's a couple of glasses of wine most afternoons and a bit more over the weekend.

This isn't going to go on forever, so should we really worry that much if our drinking creeps up a bit?

What about you? Are you drinking more? Are you okay with it under the circumstances?

I usually drink -a lot of- wine Fri Sat and Sun. I'm maintaining that despite WFH

Bluesheep8 · 08/04/2020 15:22

How do you do a strike out? Mine failed above

Bluesheep8 · 08/04/2020 15:22

I meant I'm maintaing my no booze Mon to Thurs rule!

I've been having just one glass of wine every 2-3 days rather than 2-3 glasses on a Friday and Saturday.
Actually it's much better.

BiBiBirdie · 08/04/2020 15:25

I've been disgusting

Honestly, I didn't think I was drinking that much during this until I realised I had done 3/4 of a smallish bottle of gin (the stubby Gordon's one) and wasn't even slightly tipsy. No hangover either.
I've built up the alcohol resistance I had at 18.

Quarantimespringclean · 08/04/2020 15:26

I’ve stuck to pre lockdown rule of no alcohol on weeknights at home as it would be all too easy to get drunk 7 nights a week. So I’m drinking less than before as there are no midweek nights out with friends.

DH has a job that involves meeting clients for drinks most lunchtimes and a lot of evenings. As well as those drink opportunities he would also stop at the local pub most nights for a couple of pints. Since he switched to WFM three weeks ago he hasn’t had any alcohol at all.

ilovecakeandwine · 08/04/2020 15:28

Usually no alcohol in the week except on the odd occasion. Since lockdown a glass or 2 of wine or beer in the evening. I try and wait till after 8pm but today as it's nice I've made a very weak pink gin & lemonade in the garden.

SweetPetrichor · 08/04/2020 15:30

None, I'm not really a big drinker so I've not noticed much change. My consumption of pepsi, etc has definitely gone up though!

Mammyloveswine · 08/04/2020 15:32

Mine has been disgusting, at least a bottle of wine most nights...on a weekend almost 2! Anyway haven't had any this week and feel a lot more positive! Plus I stepped on the scales and had put so much weight on it was disgusting!

Got a couple of cases coming tomorrow but going to stash it in the coal shed so I have to make an effort to go get a bottle and then chill it before drinking it.

I haven't had any in and I haven't missed it, so if I keep it the kitchen I'll end up opening a bottle whilst cooking dinner then have a second glass with dinner then another after the kids have gone to bed which means a bottle is easily sank without registering too much!

But the good thing is I am fine going without, I recognise I've been drinking too much and being on a strict diet should help!

I intend to emerge from lockdown like a beautiful butterfly!

Thankssomuch · 08/04/2020 15:34

If I let myself, I would drink four glasses of wine every evening before dinner or instead of dinner every night but am aiming to keep it to weekends only.

SallyWD · 08/04/2020 15:36

I usually have 1 or 2 drinks one day a week. Any more and I feel all lethargic and anxious the next day.

DazzlingDee · 08/04/2020 15:37

I haven’t drank any more than normal. Just Fri/Sat/Sun max 2 glasses per night. That’s not to say I haven’t been tempted though! And sitting out in the garden in this beautiful weather makes me want to open a Magners! I have no ice though.

uisage · 08/04/2020 15:37

I am pregnant so none for me. Otherwise I'm pretty sure it would be a glass of wine every night, being on your own with a toddler for 12hrs a day is hard work.

EthelMayFergus · 08/04/2020 15:40

Every evening, first glass of wine with dinner at about 6 pm, then another glass, then a couple of spirits over the evening. So, half a bottle of wine and two spirits every day.

In my old life, before CV, I drank only on a Saturday evening, I think it's boredom because I normally play netball three nights a week and I'm marking, lesson planning, helping with homework etc. Bloody easy habit to get in to, I might try and rein it in.

Drybird2020 · 08/04/2020 15:47

I quit drinking at the end of last year and I'm glad I did. The situation is shitty enough without the disturbed sleep and heightened anxiety I get from booze.

ShagMeRiggins · 08/04/2020 15:47

I’ll take the fifth. Or maybe just a fifth. Grin

BrowncoatWaffles · 08/04/2020 15:48

I’m averaging a litre of Baileys every eight days. It sounds better than in a week though, right?!

lightyearsahead · 08/04/2020 15:50

Nothing until 6pm, one G&T and maybe a 1/2 bottle of wine.
Not every night but 4/7 probably, a bit more at weekends or during a zoom call with friends.
Same as normal to be honest.

ginghamstarfish · 08/04/2020 15:52

Same as usual, one g&T on a Sunday, not sure why this would make you drink more.

hannabarbera · 08/04/2020 15:53

Last night 2 double g&t

Tonight possibly another double snd a can of lager with a curry.

Tomorrow, couple of glasses of wine.

I drink most nights

limesoda · 08/04/2020 16:16

More than usual, for sure. I feel no need to worry about this.

gerbo · 08/04/2020 16:57

We're trying to stick to Friday, Saturday, Sunday only as normal.

However- I'm feeling very tempted every blooming day - a lovely combination of worry and boredom.

But- the good news is we let rules go when DH is on holiday so as of 6pm tonight I'll be opening the wine! I can't wait!

Slightly concerned about how much I'd like to lean on alcohol now, but these are very weird times I suppose.

gerbo · 08/04/2020 16:58

(Not on holiday per se- he's stopping his long days of WFH until mid next week....)

SkinnywannabeKBH · 08/04/2020 17:03

No more than usual. We are only having drinks at weekends. My Husband is still working every day and I am still working my part time hours from home so its business as usual for us.

Ninkanink · 08/04/2020 17:07

I certainly won’t worry about it - if I feel like having double what I usually do some weeks, I will. Chances are other weeks I will feel less inclined to drink at all, so it evens out overall. My DH is WFH so he keeps to a fairly strict week/weekend drinking differential, just to keep his brain in gear for quite demanding work.
