So, honestly...how much are you really drinking?

Hi,

Just that really. Been hearing so much about lockdown drinking becoming an issue.

I'll be honest, mine has been creeping up over the past week or so and this weather certainly isn't helping.

The gin was opened yesterday 😬 but usually it's a couple of glasses of wine most afternoons and a bit more over the weekend.

This isn't going to go on forever, so should we really worry that much if our drinking creeps up a bit?

What about you? Are you drinking more? Are you okay with it under the circumstances?

Nothing at all. I'm eating loads of chocolate though and have got through 240 one-cup tea bags in 4 weeks. Is that like 8 cups a day or something?

I can see how if alcohol is something you normally buy / drink, consumption would be creeping up.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 08/04/2020 17:48

I usually only drink on Fridays and Saturdays but I've been adding Sundays into the mix since lockdown. I'm really trying to stick to those 3 days though as it could easily turn into every day if I let myself. I've been furloughed so I've got that "I don't have to get up for work so who cares" feeling.

missfliss · 08/04/2020 17:52

None. I have learned the hard way that it adds to my anxiety the day after.
I'm a happy drinker and have learned to save my drinking till then!

At least 1 gin and tonic a night (double measure), creeping up to 2/3 some nights.

lazylinguist · 08/04/2020 17:54

Nothing at all, but I've not been well, possibly (mild but lengthy) coronavirus. Looking forward to a glass or two now that I'm feeling better, but I doubt I'll go over 4 or 5 units a week tbh. Booze messes with my sleep, even in pretty small amounts.

MrsT1405 · 08/04/2020 18:44

I drink a lot. I'm old, it's very cheap here and I enjoy it. Normally I only drink maybe 2 nights a week. I do feel better and it helps my weight, but at the moment possible 2 x 3 litre wine boxes and a few gins or bacardi s a week.

BogRollBOGOF · 08/04/2020 18:50

I had an emergency dentist appointment just before the lockdown. I was asked if I still drink 0-4 units per week. I replied "at the moment yes, but that will probably change by next week" Grin

I'm having a bit more. We've got through some aging wines in the cupboard. I haven't really started on the extra gin I bought in. I'm still drinking less than average

HoffiCoffi13 · 08/04/2020 19:00

Loads. I was ill the week before lockdown and the first week of it (potential CV) and didn’t drink anything. Since then it’s been a couple of glasses of wine a night. Or a couple of g&t’s.

Same as usual, one g&T on a Sunday, not sure why this would make you drink more

You really don’t have any inkling why it might? Boredom... I’m usually out a few evenings a week at exercises classes/seeing friends, which I’m obviously not doing at the moment. Stress... I know alcohol can increase anxiety but in the moment it feels like a stress reliever. Weather has been nice so we’ve sat out in the evening chatting with a glass of wine in front of the patio heater. All sorts of reasons.
Then again I drink more than one G&T a week in ‘normal’ times.

ScabbyHorse · 08/04/2020 19:06

@BrowncoatWaffles love it!

vampirethriller · 08/04/2020 19:07

I haven't drunk alcohol since February 2018 (alcoholic) though there have been times this week when I've wished I could.

ScabbyHorse · 08/04/2020 19:08

Two days off a week. Between 1 and 6 drinks on the other days. Soaking it up with crisps.

Frownette · 08/04/2020 19:10

Nothing for a while, although people often mention rhubarb gin and tonic which sounds delicious.

I might try it sometime but happy with tea for now.

longhaulstress · 08/04/2020 19:59

Lots more than usual as am not in work. Bottle of Prosecco on a Friday night. At least 3 other nights half a bottle of wine/couple of double Gins. Another night maybe just a cider. Currently having maybe 2 sober nights. I'll go back to normal once this is all over as I'll have work and my shift patterns make drinking too hard.

PenguindreamsofDraco · 08/04/2020 21:16

Oh loads more. A couple of glasses at least a night. No concerns about scaling back once real life resumes though

TuscanGreen · 08/04/2020 21:36

I decided to give up. I thought I was drinking a bit too much before

VetOnCall · 08/04/2020 21:51

Nothing. I am still working though, albeit reduced hours, and I hardly ever drink anyway. I think the last I had was one cocktail when out for dinner with friends in February and prior to that was before Christmas. I'm just not bothered about alcohol. Going by what my friends both here in Canada and in the UK are saying though I think a lot of them are drinking at least a bit more than usual at the moment.

carlywurly · 08/04/2020 22:14

Glass of wine most nights. No different at weekends - I generally stop at one, just like it with dinner.

Pineappletree33 · 08/04/2020 22:17

I’m not normally much of a drinker, maybe a drink every 3/4 months but I’m desperate for wine. I’m pregnant so haven’t touched a drop but I’d love a glass of wine. I’m craving it.

Ooarrrzomerzet · 08/04/2020 22:18

Nothing

Bluewater1 · 08/04/2020 22:19

Nothing

RJnomore1 · 08/04/2020 22:22

I’m working 7 days a week from home and I no longer know what day it is so 🤷🏻‍♀️

NotYourHolidayDick · 08/04/2020 22:26

Bottle of wine most nights.

I have no wine today so I've had 3 bottles of San Miguel.

Occasionally I'll swap the wine for 3/4 large G&Ts.

Far too much basically. And I've gained a stone Grin But fuck it, we are having the best family time and the gorgeous weather isnt helping me put down the glass!

LittleMissLumpy · 08/04/2020 22:27

One G&T most nights. I have a gin subscription, which helps. Or makes it worse.

Comefromaway · 08/04/2020 22:29

I found a mini bottle of white left over from my birthday. So I had a glass with Sunday lunch and a glass last night.

Got nothing in now and I won’t be getting a click and collect until after the weekend.
