So, honestly...how much are you really drinking?

Hi,

Just that really. Been hearing so much about lockdown drinking becoming an issue.

I'll be honest, mine has been creeping up over the past week or so and this weather certainly isn't helping.

The gin was opened yesterday 😬 but usually it's a couple of glasses of wine most afternoons and a bit more over the weekend.

This isn't going to go on forever, so should we really worry that much if our drinking creeps up a bit?

What about you? Are you drinking more? Are you okay with it under the circumstances?

I drank quite a lot the last two weeks. This week either nothing or one gin an evening.

Blondiney · 09/04/2020 08:38

Nothing. I've accepted that alcohol increases my anxiety and insomnia, not worth it any more. Getting old is shit.

Notso · 09/04/2020 08:42

I've only had one gin and tonic since DH the kids finished school. I've got some wine to have with dinner on Easter Sunday.
I hardly ever drink at home normally though.
Student DD hasn't drunk either and has lost 10lb, DH usually works away and has a few pints a night has lost nearly a stone.

I don’t usually drink every day, but I have been drinking most nights since confinement, which has coincided with lovely spring weather here in France. I’ll have a glass of wine ‘apéro’ with some snacks on my balcony in the early evening when the sun hits it fully. I hope we get a bit of notice when the lockdown is to be lifted, as I’ll need to go on a crash diet 😆

Ilikefresias · 09/04/2020 08:52

More than usual. I only ever drank at the weekends but had started to have a drink every night. Made myself stop because I feel that’s a slippery slope!

MilkNoSugars · 09/04/2020 08:59

No booze at all for 2 1/2 weeks as I had CV symptoms and felt like crap but now feeling better and have had a glass or 2 of wine or a G&T the last few evenings.

We are supposed to be in the Caribbean right now so I'm drinking less than I would be there!

notacooldad · 09/04/2020 08:59

I've had one beer since the 22nd March.
I don't want to get in to the habit of drinking at home.

soundsystem · 09/04/2020 09:02

Whoever said Christmas levels is right.

I'm actually socialising more than I would otherwise, as all drinks are now over Zoom, so easy for me to dial in once the kids are in bed vs getting a babysitter and going out to the pub was pre-lockdown.

soundsystem · 09/04/2020 09:02

(To clarify, I'm not getting wrecked when the kids are in bed, but having a glass or two of wine)

BiddyPop · 09/04/2020 09:28

More than usual but not ridiculous. Occasional g&t before dinner or else a glass of wine or a beer with dinner most evenings. But mostly the lid goes back on the bottle after 1 glass. We generally had done this 4-5 nights per week even before the virus. We had a very rare 2 bottles of wine night on Saturday, as we were relaxing over a nice dinner. We have been drinking no alcohol beer and sip smith (a 0% gin alternative) a fair amount over the past year, but have gone back to alcohol in it recently when buying beer and drinking proper gin (we're still using the 0% in between).

Livpool · 09/04/2020 09:29

Definitely more than usual

shineaflight · 09/04/2020 09:30

Loads. Gonna crack some cocktails out this afternoon

SavageBeauty73 · 09/04/2020 09:31

Weekend drinking every night 🤷‍♀️

Desmondo2016 · 09/04/2020 09:34

I'm bizarrely drinking less than normal. I'm using lockdown as an opportunity to commit to a strength training programme and doing longer runs than normal so am really enjoying the fit, strong and healthy feeling. I have had periods of time in the past where I would easily get through 3 or 4 bottles of wine a week and it's just not appealling at the moment as I'm so intent on coming out of lockdown in a great place.

Bedsheets4knickers · 09/04/2020 09:52

Too much I need to reign it in .

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 09/04/2020 11:16

More caffeine and soft drinks as home more but no alcohol as don’t usually drink and there’s rarely any in the house unless we are expecting guests.

I’m not sure why it’s still being sold, it’s not an essential item and isn’t good for health in the main.

HoffiCoffi13 · 09/04/2020 12:02

It’s essential to alcoholics who could potentially die if they are unable to buy it and suffer withdrawal.
Also you could say the same about plenty of other things... sugary caffeinated soft drinks aren’t essential either are they? And are generally considered to do more harm than good. Shall we ban them? And coffee? And cigarettes, obviously. In fact should the shops just be selling one form of protein, one form of carbohydrate and a couple of varieties of fruit and veg?

HoffiCoffi13 · 09/04/2020 12:03

Actually just read you’re drinking more caffeine and soft drinks... definitely not essential. Not good for you either.

PainAuChocolatAndBlackCoffee · 09/04/2020 12:30

@IceCreamAndCandyfloss, is that a serious comment? So much of what is sold is nonessential. Why just because we are living through a pandemic, should we only buy essentials if the nonessentials/treats are available and not rationed? Obviously I'm not suggesting you should be going to the shops just for a bottle of wine or a bar of chocolate, but I don't think that's what you mean is it? You don't think they should be sold at all? Confused

DH and I have developed a habit to limit our drinking of having sex every other night Grin We don't drink on the nights we have sex.

Napssavelives · 09/04/2020 14:12

Too much

Boireannachlaidir · 09/04/2020 14:18

I'm hardly drinking any alcohol as I'm finding it makes me have a rubbish sleep and I need to function well during the day so I'm happier without it.

But I can totally understand why there's been an increase in consumption...

OhLook · 09/04/2020 14:19

None at all yet.

TwilightPeace · 09/04/2020 14:35

None. I only have a few drinks once every month or two usually when I’m on a night out. Never drink in the house and have no inclination to start now! Alcohol doesn’t really agree with me.

theclangersbigplan · 09/04/2020 14:39

Before I would have one or two gins, (or occasionally a large glass of wine) 2 days a week. It's more like 4 or 5 days a week at the moment. It's mainly the sunny weather - and it often goes up in summer and school holidays anyway! So I'm not concerned.
