Woke up at stupid o'clock and started a mental rummage through my cupboards and fridge. Have got up now leaving DP (who's 150 miles from elderly family and a bit down) in bed, and decided to make a lemon/orange drizzle cake. Haven't got a loaf tin but got something in remotely the right shape. Also only have duck eggs (as they were the last ones left when I last went shopping.) I will post a pic when it's ready....hope it's edible, don't fancy slinging out a load of perfectly good ingredients!
Anyone else baking today?

Flapjacks and a loaf of bread

IamHyouweegobshite · 04/04/2020 18:36

Today we've made banana bread and chocolate orange brownies. Got a beef stew and dumplings for dinner.

redtulip12 · 04/04/2020 18:48

@nightowl can you let me know the flapjack recipe please, mine always crumble. Thanks

Best flapjack recipe ever!

NightOwl19 · 04/04/2020 19:17

redtulip12 yeh of course. Takes less then 5 minutes to chuck together and cooking for less then 20 minutes. Mine were gone just as quick too thanks to DC

250g porridge oats
125g butter
125g light brown sugar
2-3 tbsp golden syrup (more if you want too)

Fan oven 180
Chuck all ingredients into a food processor and blitz to mix together
Grease oven tray
In the oven for 15-18 minutes

redtulip12 · 04/04/2020 19:57

Thanks @NightOwl19 have all of that so will give it a go in the next couple of days - love flapjack!!
@mooboy I don't currently have condensed milk but will give this one a go at some point too. Thanks

DD has made cookies today, following the Pret a Manger recipe.

Awesome Grin

lucysmam · 04/04/2020 20:46

We made chocolate oaty biscuits today...we've eaten lots already too!

Dd1's just made a nutella mug cake for her and dd2 to share, with some ice cream. And I'm considering whether I cba to look for a golden syrup mug cake recipe, or just make a proper golden syrup cake tomorrow.

drspouse · 04/04/2020 21:02

Very sticky chocolate fudge some of which I had on ice cream.

Distressingtimes · 05/04/2020 11:27

I have made flapjacks, banana oat loaf and less than pretty cookies.

I think I use the same flapjack recipe as NightOwl bbc good food one? I skip the blender & instead heat the butter, syrup, sugar in a pan until melted then stir the oats in. Just because it’s easier to wash one pan than all the blender components so totally due to being lazy.

I'm making white bread rolls so we can have bacon and square sausage later for lunch. I got golden syrup at my last shop so I can join the flapjack bandwagon as well.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 05/04/2020 11:39

@Ulysses I too am hoping to make bread rolls. I don't bake at all other than using our bread machine to make pizza dough every week. So I decided to make little crusty rolls today. After I'd put in all the ingredients and switched it on, I noticed the mixing paddle on the worktop 😳 I had to dump it all into a bowl, put in the paddle and dump it all back into the machine again. Lots of stuff stuck to the bowl and it definitely didn't go back into the machine in the correct order 😩 God knows what they'll turn out like but there was so much ingredients I didn't want to just bin it. Hoping for a miracle now!!

Ulysses · 05/04/2020 11:56

Fingers crossed @lifeinahmasterwheel. I've made mine using the Kitchen Aid with the dough hook. I haven't made them before and to be fair, my bread never works out all that great either. I'm using a Hairy Bikers recipe for the ingredients and an American site I found on Pinterest to loosely follow the method since I'm using the mixer. I've gone on the Kitchen Aid site and it says you only need to mix yeast dough for a couple of minutes max, whereas the recipe says to knead it by hand for 20-25 minutes. Hope it turns out okay.

Gingerbread men!

BadlyAgedMemes · 05/04/2020 13:08

I made these brownies this morning, to satisfy my chocolate cravings. They required no actual chocolate for the recipe, just cocoa powder. Didn't have any nuts to put in, either. They turned out a bit raw extra fudgy, but were very nice indeed! I've had to shove the other half into the freezer now, to spare my waistline.

Ulysses · 05/04/2020 13:31

I have cocoa powder as well @badlyaged memes so this is something I can add to the list of things to make.

My bread rolls were not the softies I was expecting to go with the square sausage but were fine. I really need to work on my bread making skills - if I can ever find flour in the shops again!

hannabarbera · 05/04/2020 14:01

More welsh cakes and a chocolate sponge for DS’s birthday.

fudgesmummy · 05/04/2020 14:36

Bread and butter pudding just out of the oven 😋

RosesandIris · 05/04/2020 14:37

I made the British Rail gingerbread yesterday. It was lovely!

ivykaty44 · 05/04/2020 14:45

macaroons, never made them before, don't have the half almond to place in the centre but made a few in batches - they have gone down very well with afternoon coffee.

I had the eggs whites left over from making custard to go with rhubarb crumble yesterday

ivykaty44 · 05/04/2020 14:48

where is the recipe for the British rail ginger bread?

JingsMahBucket · 05/04/2020 15:04

I think I’m going to try banana bread today. I need a treat to snack on during the week and to eat for breakfast with pats of butter.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 05/04/2020 15:19

Flapjacks with half soft brown and half Demerara sugar since I had no granulated. Took them out of the oven a bit too soon so they’re marginally too soft, but better soft and chewy than too crispy.
🐷Dh has scoffed a lot already.
