Woke up at stupid o'clock and started a mental rummage through my cupboards and fridge. Have got up now leaving DP (who's 150 miles from elderly family and a bit down) in bed, and decided to make a lemon/orange drizzle cake. Haven't got a loaf tin but got something in remotely the right shape. Also only have duck eggs (as they were the last ones left when I last went shopping.) I will post a pic when it's ready....hope it's edible, don't fancy slinging out a load of perfectly good ingredients!
Anyone else baking today?

Just made some raison and oatmeal cookies. Getting low on butter so we might have to move into muffins tomorrow, I've got plenty of Veg oil.

Italian Pear Cake - had some pears going soft!

Just made gingerbread & date self saucing pudding which is in the oven now. It has abit of a Christmas feel but we have a craving for ginger and a lovely big tub of vanilla icecream in the freezer that will pair lovely with it.

Got raisin flapjacks in the oven now as yesterday's peanut butter cookies have all gone. For eggless recipes I've found BBC good food ones work out pretty well.

I might try getting a sourdough starter going. Not made sourdough before but used to make standard bread quite often so have some bread flour in the cupboard.

So lovely to read these ideas and drool over the pics! Yesterday I made some cherry flapjacks which were nice but def needed a bit more golden syrup to be properly gooey. Nothing else in the pipeline at the moment though sadly, as DP has decided he wants to be head chef and the kitchen isnt big enough for the both of us!

British Rail Ginger Bread in the oven - great for using up milk. I might even put some lemon icing on it. I don't think I've ever been so aware of the ingredients in my cupboards Shock

Yesterdayforgotten · 31/03/2020 11:06

Mooboy I wanted to make British Rail gingerbread but I had no nutmeg, cinnamon or ginger stem so I made date and ginger self saucing pudding with just ginger powder, treacle etc. It was tasty enough according to dh and ds but I'd still like to try the British rail!

Just managed to find a small bag of plain flour in the shops! Feel like I've won the lottery. More baking in my future - pumpkin spice bread today, probably the famous New York Times plum torte on Friday.

mooboy · 31/03/2020 11:12

Oh feck - forgot to add in the nutmeg!🤣

mooboy · 31/03/2020 11:17

The self saucing pudding sounds lovely - I've made a lemon one in the past and it went down very well. At the moment I have a deal with my sugar addicted teens - I'll make the treats if they agree not to visit the supermarket...but I'm running out of ingredients!

Yesterdayforgotten · 31/03/2020 12:15

Xiaoxiong omg which shop did you chance upon that in if you dont mind me asking?!

Yesterdayforgotten · 31/03/2020 12:17

mooboy I'm sure it'll still be lovely missing just that one ingredient, I have it bookmarked to make next time I do something gingery and have enough ingredients.

Yesterdayforgotten · 31/03/2020 12:18

And good pact there with the teens, wish my 3 year old wouldn understand ikea is closed as blooming love the place! 🤣

NemophilistRebel · 31/03/2020 12:21

Nothing because I still can’t get flour

I haven’t bought bread for 2 years and make it all fresh every 2 days

I’ve done without so far but I caved and bought some sliced bread today Sad

mooboy · 31/03/2020 12:22

What has happened all the flour?

NemophilistRebel · 31/03/2020 12:26

All o can think is there’s a lot of wasted home baked goods going about

You can’t even buy for r from doves farm like you used to

It is impossible to find Strong white flours in the shops, but strong wholemeal is plentiful. I have sourced some flour from the caterers which my son's school uses and who is now doing home delivery. Perhaps this might be an option for some people?

Troels · 31/03/2020 17:32

Today was carrot cake muffins. Only two left Blush

Chapati flour sourdough. Would be lovely if DH hadn't left it in the not very cool oven.

nonsenceagain · 31/03/2020 18:45

Naans with curry last night. Rock cakes today. Flour available in local shop thankfully.

mooboy · 31/03/2020 18:51

@Mominatrix I did try to find a few pizza flour suppliers and other caterers but the minimum order value is £100+

ivykaty44 · 31/03/2020 18:52

I’ve made walnut crumbles again, but with mixed chopped nuts and half the size so they are crisp and bit size. Made 55 and they are nice with a coffee

ivykaty44 · 31/03/2020 18:53

Still another batch in the oven 😊
