Comforting TV shows

These are uncertain times. We are all likely to be at home a lot more than usual. So I'm after comforting TV shows to watch.

So far we've watched things like The Good Place, The Crown, The Split (not comforting as such but so well written). And now rewatching Death In Paradise (which is very not cool but also very comforting!). But I'd be very grateful for your top tips too.

No horror. Limited violence. And probably not hospital dramas at this point in time please!
TIA

Has anyone mentioned the Dolly Parton series yet? I haven't read the full thread.
Another vote for Virgin River

Great thread thank you!!

Topsy44 · 15/03/2020 16:24

Mum and Last Tango in Halifax.

MrsSlocombesPussy · 15/03/2020 16:43

My Dd (15) and I have just started watching Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist on E4 I think. It's completely daft but very enjoyable. The first episode did make me cry, but in a good way
We love it.

Another vote for Detectorists- currently on a rewatch on iPlayer. Dinnerladies too- it’s on YouTube but not great quality.

Taskmaster on UKTV play- maybe not ‘gentle’ but funny and easy. Quite like Meet the Richardsons on there too.

Netflix- Schitts Creek, Royle Family, Miranda, The Trip, Victoria Wood, Mitchell and Webb Look, The Job Lot, Outnumbered, Eddie the Eagle (film), Bad Move

Peep show is my go to.

Also love schitts creek

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 15/03/2020 17:07

I think Darling Buds is on ITV player at the moment.

I’d love it if they put Peak Practice up on there as well.

Other suggestions:
Lewis
QI
Wycliffe
Dawson’s Creek - although I suspect this might not be aw watchable as it was when I originally watched it.

minipie · 15/03/2020 17:09

Thanks for this thread OP! We’ve just binge watched Gavin & Stacey (never saw it the first time), need something to move on to.

Other iplayer suggestions: State of the Union, Outnumbered, Defending the Guilty, Ghosts

I’m beginning to wonder if the internet can cope with all this streaming that people are expecting. Lessons online, videoconferencing for work, Facetiming friends and family, online food and other shopping, TV streaming... it’s really going to test capacity

minipie · 15/03/2020 17:10

Sorry that last paragraph probably isn’t right for this thread! Just thinking out loud... sorry!!

The Office: An American Workplace, all 9 seasons on Amazon Prime. It’s really, really funny once you get into it. Over time the “background” characters really come into their own and it’s just glorious to watch.
