Comforting TV shows

These are uncertain times. We are all likely to be at home a lot more than usual. So I'm after comforting TV shows to watch.

So far we've watched things like The Good Place, The Crown, The Split (not comforting as such but so well written). And now rewatching Death In Paradise (which is very not cool but also very comforting!). But I'd be very grateful for your top tips too.

No horror. Limited violence. And probably not hospital dramas at this point in time please!
TIA

Oh the Worzel remake was beautiful. We’ve watched it at least 3 times.

DesLynamsMoustache · 15/03/2020 11:35

Escape to the Chateau!

midsomermurderess · 15/03/2020 11:38

The Brokenwood Mysteries, it's a sort of NZ Midsommer Murders.

Frasier
Everybody Loves Raymond
Friends
Law and Order (original)
Prison Break

Just because I've seen them all so many times they are completely familiar and I can just have them on in the background and not need to concentrate too much.

I was going to mention the new Worzel Gummidge as well.

Just watched Race Against theWorld. The recent Win the Wilderness was fairly innocuous as well. Also, there’s been some Steve Backshaw programmes on recently which have been inspiring.

Shakespeare and Hathaway is another suggestion.

Turn up Charlie on Netflix starring Idris alba us fairly heartwarming. (Not sure if it’s still on there).

Gossipgirl2 · 15/03/2020 12:38

Chesapeake Shores
Gilmore girls
Grace and Frankie
All on Netflix and quite comforting to watch.
Old episodes of birds of a feather, vicar of Dibley, dinnerladies are good too.

UnitedRoad · 15/03/2020 12:48

We’ve just discovered Pie in the Sky. It’s on demand on sky, on one of the U.K. gold channels. It’s absolutely perfect comfort viewing, and quite funny too.

Very old though, I think it started in 1994. We missed out first time round as we were young and had proper social lives!

ER.

TrickyLicky · 15/03/2020 13:47

Around the World in 80 Days with Michael Palin. It's on iplayer. Love Michael!

longwayoff · 15/03/2020 13:49

Oh! Just spotted there are 48 episodes of Hustle on iplayer. Always amusing.

Pogmella · 15/03/2020 13:50

I’m loving the vintage Silent Witness on iplayer but I can see pathology might not be a hugely comforting theme...

DP has started watching too, so far we’ve spotted baby Benedictine’s Cumberbatch, Russell Tovey and plenty of early appearances from various soap actors...

HollyBollyBooBoo · 15/03/2020 14:13

We're watching the first Gavin & Stacey Christmas special. Always cheers me up!

DinosApple · 15/03/2020 14:26

Haha, loads j was going to say have already been mentioned. The Dectectorists is a massive favourite of mine.

I really love travel/cookery programs myself for escapism and salivating.

HavenDilemma · 15/03/2020 14:41

I've recently found The Good Doctor and love it!

Peter Kay Car Share is also amazing

Abelino · 15/03/2020 14:43

The Detectorists
Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Fishing
Frasier (for the millionth time)

HarrietThePi · 15/03/2020 14:50

Doctor who, the thick of it, the good place, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, cuckoo, Miranda. Occasionally red dwarf and only fools and horses. Those are my comforting watches (and all I watch is comforting stuff).

Is darling buds of may on netflix? I could do with some new series's to add to my routine.

amusedbush · 15/03/2020 14:52

Gilmore Girls is my go-to when I need comfort - that theme tune is just like a big hug in TV form.

Heygirlheyboy · 15/03/2020 14:56

The Durrells, Grace and Frankie

PhilCollinsFingerWag · 15/03/2020 15:03

The good karma hospital is what we call Sunday evening TV viewing because it’s relaxing.

Shame the hospital I work in doesn’t seem quite as relaxing as that one, and certainly not the gardens.........

PhilCollinsFingerWag · 15/03/2020 15:03

I think it’s due back on next week.

Newhouse76 · 15/03/2020 15:05

The Vicar of Dibley is really lovely and gentle

ClientQueen · 15/03/2020 15:09

Virgin river
Anne with an E
Buffy
Northern rescue
Spinning out

Zaphodsotherhead · 15/03/2020 15:13

Another vote for Midsomer Murders, Buffy, Come Dine With Me.. I have even (shoot me now) taken to watching Michael Portillo and his Railway Journeys around Britain. He has, whatever you think of his politics, a very soothing voice, although his trousers can be a bit of a shock to the system.

Also all the old favourites from yesteryear, Lovejoy, The Good Life, Bergerac, Shoestring.

Icecreamdiva · 15/03/2020 15:25

I would try and locate DVDs of Little House on the Prairie or The Walton’s.

Whome91 · 15/03/2020 15:50

My family? Don't know where to find it tho
