Been geeking this morning on the number of flights having to go around

Noticed several Gatwick and Luton flights diverting to Stanstead

Check out DI7018 JFK- Gatwick

Two attempts at Gatwick, seemed to be heading for Stanstead, but now the Norwegian airlines crew seem to be taking everyone home with them!

I've been watching GNJ74 Birmingham to Gatwick but after circling Gatwick a while it went back up towards Birmingham. It then went past Birmingham and disappeared from the app at 3500....I want to know where it landed!

Looks like initially it did an slightly abbreviated pattern at the Ockham hold (Wisley), first approach, go-around, then downwind for a second go at which point there's the "circle" you describe ..if it happened (and FR24 can sometimes get it wrong) that would probably be for spacing with respect to traffic ahead.
