Been geeking this morning on the number of flights having to go around

Noticed several Gatwick and Luton flights diverting to Stanstead

Check out DI7018 JFK- Gatwick

Two attempts at Gatwick, seemed to be heading for Stanstead, but now the Norwegian airlines crew seem to be taking everyone home with them!

Feel sorry for those on that Dublin flight, an hour flight is going to be over two hours and still miles from where they should be

TabbyStar · 15/02/2020 21:56

This is where you can see

@Ohdeariedear same, can see the EDI planes from my window passing as normal and all seem to be landing fine. GLA seems to be having no issues either so think Scotland is yet to see the worst

At least the Dublin people will be in the right country, which is more than you can say for Barcelona or the one that went to Paris!

Ohdeariedear · 15/02/2020 22:04

@happycamper11im in the vicinity but they are not coming over me tonight - I get them when the wind is in the other direction!

RustyBear · 15/02/2020 22:06

The Barcelona - Gatwick one has just landed back at Barcelona. Wonder why they sent it all the way back rather than diverting to a nearer airport?

TinnedPearsForPudding · 15/02/2020 22:12

What does it mean when a flight departs & the destination is N/A?

It means flight radar doesn't know it.

TidaQuel · 15/02/2020 22:13

BA2891 is heading back for another attempt at LGW after diverting to CDG

TinnedPearsForPudding · 15/02/2020 22:16

@tabletray - thanks

TinnedPearsForPudding · 15/02/2020 22:17

There's a flight from Manchester to LGW just about to attempt landing - shame they didn't wait for the diverted Dublin flight Wink

Ohdeariedear · 15/02/2020 22:22

There’s the Air Ambulance heading back from Stornaway, presumably to Glasgow.

TabbyStar · 15/02/2020 22:23

The Barcelona flight maybe headed back so three plane was in the right place in the morning.

Empty positioning flight.

Malaga to Leeds flight making a second attempt at landing.

Ohdeariedear · 15/02/2020 22:27

Jet2 making a second try at Leeds Bradford...

42isthemeaning · 15/02/2020 22:32

Flightradar24 made that Leeds landing look like a runway excursion!

I've not followed this in detail but if it's Vuelling flight then as Tabbystar implies it's logistics. You should have company ground staff available, the aircraft is back at base, crew is back at base/ availability of replacement crew if original crew goes out of hours, which they might do late in the day..even trivial stuff to consider like some of the passengers can just go back home rather than a hotel.

Diverting to "the nearest suitable airport", regardless of logistics sometimes has to be done but arriving somewhere "offline" with no company ground support and no replacement crew can be a nightmare.

NoGravyForYou · 15/02/2020 22:35

Did FR9078 make a failed attempt to land at Leeds?

MrsPatrickDempsey · 15/02/2020 22:37

Looks like it

GoBackToPartyCity · 15/02/2020 22:39

Does anyone know why two flights have just take off from Manchester to East Midlands? EXS632W and RYI17. I’m new to this...my 3 year old has become obsessed with planes and it’s rubbed off a bit!

tabletray · 15/02/2020 22:41

Positioning flights. Those will be aircraft that diverted to MAN earlier today.

NoGravyForYou · 15/02/2020 22:41

RYI17 landed but the other hasn't

NoGravyForYou · 15/02/2020 22:42

Oh it has Blush
