Been geeking this morning on the number of flights having to go around

Noticed several Gatwick and Luton flights diverting to Stanstead

Check out DI7018 JFK- Gatwick

Two attempts at Gatwick, seemed to be heading for Stanstead, but now the Norwegian airlines crew seem to be taking everyone home with them!

Thanks, Nightsky.
True, Tabby, but if she was frightening my children with that awful racket I’d be pretty annoyed.

sonjadog · 10/02/2020 13:38

I would not be impressed with someone carrying on like that. I have been in turbulance where passengers have been in tears. But in tears quietly and trying not to affect other passengers. Rather self-centred to frighten other people like that.

Does anyone watch Big Jet TV on YouTube or Facebook? He did a livestream from Heathrow yesterday and it was incredible watching the planes trying to land. There was a clip from the stream on BBC news last night.

I have just found this thread. I can’t believe I’ve found my tribe! I thought I was alone with my fascination for Flightradar24.

Grandmi · 10/02/2020 17:50

alwaysaworrier ...same here . Love a bit of Flightradar24 if I cannot sleep 😊🤓

mrslrc · 10/02/2020 18:00

You’ve just given me a new hobby! I hadn’t realised you could watch planes in the air like this!

Papergirl1968 · 10/02/2020 18:07

I might have to mute the sound on BigJet TV though as the nan’s voice drives me mad.
“Go on, Son, put it down. He’s not liking it, oh, he’s going for it, nice and steady, right down the middle!”

Newcatmum · 10/02/2020 18:08

Just set up alerts after reading about it up thread and got my first general emergency notification.

RYR985 took off from East Midlands to Dublin and has turned back just as it reached the coast

coastergirl · 10/02/2020 18:08

When I flight is diverted, how do you find out on flight radar where it's diverted to? I'm sure someone on here said it was on there. Just got an alert about an emergency.

My dad got diverted trying to land at Heathrow and ended up in Munich Shock

Papergirl1968 · 10/02/2020 18:12

Where was he coming from, M2B?

coastergirl · 10/02/2020 18:29

The emergency has landed back at East Midlands.

Bringringbring · 10/02/2020 18:45

Sensationalist nonsense from the DM. The aircraft made 2 attempts one on runway 18 and one on runway 22. It also aborted very early at another attempt on runway 22. It didn't even circle (hold) for 5 circuits. It literally arrived, attempted and left.

So 3 attempts, not two.

Haworthia · 10/02/2020 19:39

I actually found him quite amusing @Papergirl1968

Especially enjoyed his accents when Air France and Aer Lingus came in Grin

PeterPeterson · 10/02/2020 19:55

@lyralalala I was on that DI7018 JFK- Gatwick flight! It was hell the whole flight, the turbulence and then after the two attempts the pilot came over the tannoy to tell us we were diverting to Copenhagen. I actually cried when he said we were diverting. However I cannot praise Norwegian airlines or the staff on board enough, we were really well looked after in Copenhagen and we finally landed just before 1am at Gatwick. Still a horrible landing on the second flight but at least we got down, safe to say it's an experience I don't want to relive!

smashstore · 10/02/2020 20:09

So 3 attempts, not two.

2 attempts at getting in the ground. The other it turned off the path before short finals.

MissSkate · 10/02/2020 20:18

Fascinated watching this plane trying to land at LBA. I'm about 10 miles away and its very windy again here tonight.

thenightsky · 10/02/2020 20:21

Isn't Leeds/Bradford the windiest airport in the country? It certainly seems to close more than others due to high winds.

MissSkate · 10/02/2020 20:25

@thenightsky yes it is, and the highest elevated airport I believe. There's another circling now from Wroclaw, must be very bad up there.

LittleGift · 10/02/2020 20:34

Thank you, thank you for this thread. I had no idea this existed!

My kid’s bedroom has a view of the city and the constant stream of planes en route to Heathrow. I just identified one on flightradar and this has made me ridiculously happy. 😬

TabbyStar · 10/02/2020 20:34

I think it's given up MissSkate, it seems to be heading off.

Northernsoullover · 10/02/2020 20:36

I used to have a feature on FR where you could scan the sky and identify what was flying above. I can't seem to find it anymore or am I being a bit dim?

Haworthia · 10/02/2020 20:37

It’s the AR icon, top left of the app @Northernsoullover

TabbyStar · 10/02/2020 20:43

The Dublin to Leeds plane just landed in Manchester.
