Been geeking this morning on the number of flights having to go around

Noticed several Gatwick and Luton flights diverting to Stanstead

Check out DI7018 JFK- Gatwick

Two attempts at Gatwick, seemed to be heading for Stanstead, but now the Norwegian airlines crew seem to be taking everyone home with them!

There's a Dreamliner just taking off from Gatwick now, lucky people going to Mauritius (if my airport code/capitals knowledge is accurate)

NumberMonkey · 09/02/2020 18:17

Vienna just bailed at Bristol?

ElloBrian · 09/02/2020 18:19

Belfast flight also approaching Gatwick

Belfast to Gatwick trying too.

The Dubai flight is landing - hopefully - it's down to 1000 feet now.

notimagain · 09/02/2020 18:21

"Looks like City is reopening - there’s a flight from the Isle of Man coming in now. City is impossible in almost any wind so that’s a sign things are returning to normal."

You're probably right - there's still forecast of the chance of some nasty wind speeds at both the Heathrow and Gatwick in the next few hours but the wind direction is forecast to start veering around tmore o the west which if correct will reduce the cross wind component.

www.flightradars.eu/squawkcodes.html

this tells you what all the codes that the planes squawk actually mean.

Sexnotgender · 09/02/2020 18:23

The Emirates flight is down.

NumberMonkey · 09/02/2020 18:24

Vienna is having a second pop at Bristol.

windymillersmill · 09/02/2020 18:28

An hour late landing - rather them than me!

NaturallyEden · 09/02/2020 18:30

We have a big one coming in three flights out at LHR.

Cherryblossomandcornflakes · 09/02/2020 18:32

Our turn for area 51. Just waiting for our bags now. No idea what's happening but Gatwick has cancelled pretty much all flights. We are not going to the sun today!

Ferretyone · 09/02/2020 18:36

@nakedavengeragain

I did wonder whether that was a new base for Ryanair

London - Wigan airport

CallmeAngelina · 09/02/2020 18:39

We had to make a call late last night for dd. Eurostar tickets were selling out quick but her flight was showing as they only one back from Amsterdam not cancelled.
It cost me £250 (cheeky fuckers! Much more than usual) but worth it as it now transpires her flight has been "delayed overnight" which I presume means cancelled.
She's home safe. Her flight companions are probably mulling about Schiphol looking for accommodation.

windymillersmill · 09/02/2020 18:48

Thanks for the link Squashy I was trying to find it online.

TooleyVanDooley · 09/02/2020 18:55

You guys have given me a new hobby Grin

I’m very happy that I can now identify the planes that go over my house, I’ve always wondered where they were taking people. I’m 36,000 ft directly under a flight path.

PollyMorph · 09/02/2020 19:10

Does any one have any idea about this? I have googled yanky99 and it showed an American Hercules?

I have been following you guys all day. New favourite hobby!!

I was just going to post the link to the BBC video from Big Jet TV. There are a couple more videos as well. The third one of the BA plane....wow, I would have been in tears!! Terrifying.

AutumnGlitterBall · 09/02/2020 19:26

PollyMorph There was a thing recently about the Americans being almost the only people using Prestwick airport for a while. Maybe it’s headed there? I can’t see it so I wonder if it’s landed.

smashstore · 09/02/2020 19:29

That was a US navy C130 Hercules diverting in from Mildenhall.

smashstore · 09/02/2020 19:30

There was a thing recently about the Americans being almost the only people using Prestwick airport for a while.

Never heard of this. Certainly not true.

PollyMorph · 09/02/2020 19:30

@autumglitterball that's really interesting thanks, I have only ever looked at the app very occasionally but have been really drawn in today :)

windymillersmill · 09/02/2020 19:30

I was watching a programme about those the other night, they are absolutely huge. Mind you, it was Richard Hammond inside it and he'd make a match box look on the spacious side Grin

windymillersmill · 09/02/2020 19:33

Just watching a helicopter from Sumburgh (Shetlands) coming across the north sea, I wouldn't want to be them, nor the light aircraft going the other way.
