Been geeking this morning on the number of flights having to go around

Noticed several Gatwick and Luton flights diverting to Stanstead

Check out DI7018 JFK- Gatwick

Two attempts at Gatwick, seemed to be heading for Stanstead, but now the Norwegian airlines crew seem to be taking everyone home with them!

Emirates EK31 is circling at 10,000ft over Essex not too far from me. They never stack here, they usually circle a little further west (Brentwood/Romford way).

edgewater · 09/02/2020 15:55

Valencia to Heathrow didn’t land.

NaturallyEden · 09/02/2020 15:56

@ElloBrian Probably a positioning flight, it had N/A as its destination.

EllieBellend · 09/02/2020 15:58

Helping DS move today. Just arrived. Torrential rain. Sigh.

NaturallyEden · 09/02/2020 15:58

Oh think that the Royal Helicopter possibly?

CallmeAngelina · 09/02/2020 16:01

Nothing appears to be landing (or expected for some hours) at either Luton or Stansted. A couple have taken off but nothing like normal service.

sm40 · 09/02/2020 16:02

Where is Glasgow/lhr going??

SexIsAProtectedCharacteristic · 09/02/2020 16:03

Flight from Zurich now in a holding pattern over Essex. Is it gonna come in for attempt number 3?

birdling · 09/02/2020 16:03

The Zurich flight has now gone completely mad

edgewater · 09/02/2020 16:04

Valencia on try number 2 into Heathrow.

CallmeAngelina · 09/02/2020 16:05

A RyanAir from PFO (?) to Stansted has just done a U turn some way out.

CallmeAngelina · 09/02/2020 16:07

Paphos!
Now looping the loop!

Northernsoullover · 09/02/2020 16:08

I have checked the thread and couldn't see anything on here but around 1pm a Jet 2 from Dublin was due to land at Cardiff. It looped around 5 times then went to Manchester. Imagine 180 hungover rugby fans going round in circles and facing a 4hr coach trip home. Poor buggers. At least it landed safely.

ElloBrian · 09/02/2020 16:09

The main squall line is sitting from Essex across London to the south coast, affecting pretty much all the London airports. I’m guessing that’s why there’s a sudden lull in incoming flights.

JasperRising · 09/02/2020 16:09

Untangling the mess of diverted planes and passengers must be a nightmare. Presumably having a diverted plane at your runway wanting to leave when it doesn't have a scheduled departure slot (not to mention ground crews issues) must give someone a headache...

smashstore · 09/02/2020 16:10

That's a standard approach circle when ATC deem separation too small. Plane does a circle then continues as normal.

smashstore · 09/02/2020 16:11

Sorry cross pistes, that was re the RYR

alphasox · 09/02/2020 16:14

What’s happening with the BA flight from Glasgow to London Heathrow that circled London and is now heading north again (over Leicestershire at the mo)

IAmTheWigOfTrump · 09/02/2020 16:15

I'm right near Heathrow and we had 10/15 mins of just unbelievable gusts and rain so I'm not surprised some of these flights have had to go around. It's slightly calmer now (but still v windy and rainy!)

edgewater · 09/02/2020 16:16

Do,you have a flight number for gla to lhr please?

NaturallyEden · 09/02/2020 16:16

Zurichs coming in for round three...

smashstore · 09/02/2020 16:17

BA1487

smashstore · 09/02/2020 16:17

Sorry for edge

AngelOfDeathNix · 09/02/2020 16:17

My Sunday has been totally well spent watching planes on the BigJet TV link with my plane made daughter (she wants to be a Red Arrow!) and utilising flightradar to track them all! The bloke on BigJet TV is a legend!
