Been geeking this morning on the number of flights having to go around

Noticed several Gatwick and Luton flights diverting to Stanstead

Check out DI7018 JFK- Gatwick

Two attempts at Gatwick, seemed to be heading for Stanstead, but now the Norwegian airlines crew seem to be taking everyone home with them!

What’s the flight number for São Paulo? I’m interested to see

iMatter · 09/02/2020 15:35

Just landed in Barcelona

That's some diversion but I bet they breathed a sigh of relief when they landed!

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 09/02/2020 15:36

Hurrah, it's landed! Not quite in the right country, but hey at least they're on the ground lol

EllieBellend · 09/02/2020 15:42

Think I've found a new hobby 😁

Certainly whiled away a boring journey!

notimagain · 09/02/2020 15:42

"What happens to the passengers when they’re diverted to an entirely different country?! Do they just get to hang out there for a day or two and then the airline flies them back to the original destination? Or what?"

Hopefully get them to their planned destination ASAP...If the crew have duty hours to spare they might stay on board and fly on to the destination once the weather clears. It gets much more complex if the crew "go out of hours" and there isn't another crew in place to take over..Then it's down to the kindly operations folks to come up with a recovery plan - e.g. Overnight at the diversion (hopefully in a hotel) then try onwards next day wwhen the crew have had legal rest, or see if passengers can be "dispersed" another carrier that operates out of the diversion airfield, that sort of thing.

It went into Stansted, @wineoclockthanks - and apparently the rail line between Stansted and London is blocked by a falling tree - uh-oh! They’ll all have to rely on National Express ...

ElloBrian · 09/02/2020 15:43

Thanks @notimagain ... I wouldn’t mind a surprise night in Barcelona ....

alphasox · 09/02/2020 15:45

Oh god this reminds me of being on a flight from JHB to LHR 10 years ago and they tried to land and got within spitting distance (we could see the runway and terminal) before aborting and heading for Birmingham but then being told that B’ham was closing due to high winds too so we ended up at Schipol (probably on fumes, they were very professional but the Captain said something like we WOULD land in Schipol whatever).
Was then stuck in Schipol airport for 4 days. The poor crew had no one there to meet them and we sat on the tarmac for six hours while they did a deal with someone else’s ground crew).

My poor DP was waiting at Heathrow for me and my flight disappeared off the arrivals board so he thought we had crashed and no one knew where our plane was!

EllieBellend · 09/02/2020 15:45

What's WUK801 doing? It's all over the place.

ElloBrian · 09/02/2020 15:45

A flight from Goa is just about to try Gatwick ...

wineoclockthanks · 09/02/2020 15:47

Thanks @ellobrian at least they're in the right country!

NaturallyEden · 09/02/2020 15:49

SexIsAProtectedCharacteristic · 09/02/2020 15:52

Sexnotgender · 09/02/2020 15:52

Looks like that Goa flight landed at Gatwick.

EllieBellend · 09/02/2020 15:53

Yep, Goa flight just landed.

NaturallyEden · 09/02/2020 15:54

ElloBrian · 09/02/2020 15:54

WUK801 is trying to land at Luton ... having taken off from Stansted ... ?!

TidaQuel · 09/02/2020 15:54

WUK801 looks like it’s going into LTN- possibly diverted to STN earlier?
