Been geeking this morning on the number of flights having to go around

Noticed several Gatwick and Luton flights diverting to Stanstead

Check out DI7018 JFK- Gatwick

Two attempts at Gatwick, seemed to be heading for Stanstead, but now the Norwegian airlines crew seem to be taking everyone home with them!

Freidrichshafen flight has now declared an emergency!

How do you know when theyve declared emergencies pleaese?

That touch and go was insane. When PPs said they could abort after touching down I assumed it meant just the back wheels but that BA plane looked like it was down properly (to untrained eyes!) but still able to abort (and still needing to)

EZY8402. there is a setting in flight radar to turn on alerts, it’s a little bell at the bottom of my screen.

Reference number of attempts at a landing and..

It depends on the company's rules. For example some companies have a hard rule of 2, some of 3. OTOH one I know of has a rule of 2 at destination then divert but exceptionally a third attempt at destination may be made if conditions there suddenly significantly improve (so for example if you went around twice because it was foggy and the suddenly the fog cleared it would be OK to make a third approach at destination rather than divert).

I was in a touch and go when I was younger, a plane was taking off towards it (it was foggy)... we'd been on the run way a while before we took off again, maybe several seconds...

Looks like Kyiv is having another go

St Petersburg flight coming in now at Gatwick is the first for some time; looks like the Kiev flight is going to have another go after that.

The Aer Lingus flight from Dublin to LGW (EIN2LA) has fiinally landed at the smaller of the two Frankfurt airports. 3 hours after it took off!

It gets complex, lots of variables (and this is the caveat I mentioned in an earlier post) on many jet airliners it is permissible to "abort" (also sometimes referred to as a Baulked landing) up until the point reverse thrust is selected, which is usually/often after the nose wheel has actually touched down...
