Been geeking this morning on the number of flights having to go around

Noticed several Gatwick and Luton flights diverting to Stanstead

Check out DI7018 JFK- Gatwick

Two attempts at Gatwick, seemed to be heading for Stanstead, but now the Norwegian airlines crew seem to be taking everyone home with them!

The tail strike Perth plane is currently above my house circling. Assume to burn fuel?? How long will it do that for?

NaturallyEden · 09/02/2020 13:40

sm40

Quite a while - it will have a lot of fuel on board. Also, they will need to close the runway to get it to land with fire engines present I think so it's a huge operation.

iMatter · 09/02/2020 13:40

BA8 from Tokyo to Heathrow just gave up on an attempted landing

I'm getting nothing done here!

They just answered this question, as she's burning and not dumping it (not over the sea) she will be overhead for a couple of hours.

I HAVE FOUND MY PEOPLE!!
My DH and I are a teeny bit obsessed with flightradar!

sm40 · 09/02/2020 13:42

Why not go for a quick fuel dump over the sea??

sm40 · 09/02/2020 13:44

Have now lost my afternoon. Have you tube and flight radar open!

coastergirl · 09/02/2020 13:44

I am loving this. Watching the live stream.

SurreyMumOfOne · 09/02/2020 13:44

@sm40 Even over the sea, it's not that quick. There was a plane had to circle near Melbourne the other day on FR24 - there for ages.

thenightsky · 09/02/2020 13:44

@MrsFezziwig That's the one i'm watching too. I think my neighbour is on it coming home from her winter month in Malaga.

NaturallyEden · 09/02/2020 13:45

Qatar is finally down in Manchester!

Probably letting the people on the ground sweep for assassins Grin

squashyhat · 09/02/2020 13:48

The passengers on EIN2LA must be getting dizzy. One attempted landing and 5 loops! Still not showing any signs of making another attempt.

Freeshavocado · 09/02/2020 13:49

The Perth flight is 4th in line to land now they must have decided they need to get it down rather than continue he to burn fuel.

spiderlight · 09/02/2020 13:50

My DS is an aviation geek and has been glued to this all morning, following me round the house telling me about it all in enormous detail Grin

Stopyourmessingaround · 09/02/2020 13:50

The poor buggers on BAW2749 look like they're heading straight back to Geneva. Thought they might have been diverted to Paris but just coasted past at 30,000ft. Still shudder at the memory of an aborted landing at Gatwick about 15yrs ago. Pilot spent an hour and a half trying to force plane down it barrelled left and right like a washing machine. Finally thought we'd made it as got along runway at building height only for it rocket back up again and we finally ended up in Stansted - there'd been a 90mph gust going through as we tried to land apparently.

It looks as though FR4459 has given up on landing at East Midlands. Diverting to Manchester, maybe?

NaturallyEden · 09/02/2020 13:53

Really hope Qantas gets down first attempt.

Froq · 09/02/2020 13:55

I had a power outage. Why are there fire engines and ambulances going to LHR on big jet tv?

NaturallyEden · 09/02/2020 13:56

Because there's an emergency landing coming in @Froq

Freeshavocado · 09/02/2020 13:56

DP thinks they are for a separate incident not Heathrow itself, I wondered if they were heading in ready for the Qantas flight.

thenightsky · 09/02/2020 13:56

MamehaSan Or maybe Liverpool?

iMatter · 09/02/2020 13:57

I'm holding my breath

Freeshavocado · 09/02/2020 13:57

Qantas flight landed safely.

NaturallyEden · 09/02/2020 13:58

WOAH WELL DONE CREW ON QF10.
