Weird things our bodies do

ffswhatnext · 06/02/2020 11:58

I have a number of health issues to begin with and over the past couple of months I have proper hunger pains just before sneezing. (Will chat to gp at next review)

So what weird stuff does your body do?

I sneeze when ever I pluck my eyebrows every hair ecuals a sneeze. I have to get my friend to do it as my eyes water so much from the sneezing. She is used to it now! Grin

ktjerl · 07/02/2020 23:05

I hear a strange sound like sand falling in the back of my head.
I also get a funny feeling in my kidney when shaving that area when getting my hair done. I don't get the feeling when I shave it myself though.

suggestionsplease1 · 07/02/2020 23:13

When I open my mouth to take my first bite of a MacDonalds double cheesburger a saliva gland in my right lower jaw sprays onto it.

Only happens at MacDonalds, not for the fries, just for the approaching first bite of burger.

When I scratch my knee, I can feel it in my butt crack

Miljea · 07/02/2020 23:28

Ktjerl- I get the sand falling in the back of my skull thing.

I also (tmi) if I really need a poo, get a fizzy, almost pain, in my hands, fingers, in particular.

WelshMoth · 07/02/2020 23:44

@Wavingwhiledrowning I think I know what you mean- is it inside your bum? Like a cramping?

I think MN'ers call this 'Javelin Arse'. I get it. Otherwise known as Proctitis. 20-30 mins of fucking agony. Literally takes your breath away.

The3rdWatermelon · 07/02/2020 23:48

I hear music that isn’t there. It happens when there’s a constant droning sort of noise; the extractor fan or heavy traffic in the distance or a neighbour vacuuming. I don’t hear the drone, I hear all kinds of complex music, sometimes classical, sometimes rock, sometimes jazz. I quite like it as I’m not at all musical, but this music in my ears can be fantastic, and it’s not like having a song stuck in your head that you’ve heard before, it’s totally new music that I can hear as though it’s playing in the room. The downside is getting absolutely furious at the neighbours playing loud rock music late into the night, only to discover it’s your own brain making the music from the dehumidifier or the hum of the cats’ water fountain!

If I get really self conscious I can see my own nose all the time, and it’s very distracting.

BlackeyedSusan · 08/02/2020 01:38

Where to start?

Random small pains, like someone has stuck a pin in my skin. Like one nerve firing.

JustMyName · 08/02/2020 02:30

I get the rib thing too .. almost like an internal organ is trapped under my lower rib.

I also have the typing words that I hear in tv etc in my head. I didn't know there was a word for it, going to look it up.

dubiousdecision · 08/02/2020 07:16

We see loads of interesting things like this at the eye clinic. There are so many nerves running close together around the face and eyes and sometimes they are mis-wired so cause unusual eye movements or sensations.

E.g. Marcus-gunn jaw winking syndrome which causes an eyelid to droop and flicker when you suck !

Congenital Horners syndrome which causes one eye to be a different colour, lower eyelid, different sized pupil and the person sweats on only one side of their face !

The human body is sooo cool Grin

SallyWD · 08/02/2020 08:18

If I eat anything sugary (even fruit) my face gets hot and sweaty. If I have a sexy thought I sneeze!

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 08/02/2020 08:50

Had a weird warm sensation in my leg it’s quite nice

First time it was so odd I thought I had wet myself (as the warmth spreads) then it started with lower leg. I think it was a trapped nerve as I haven’t had it for a while

When I wake up i often can’t see out of my left eye for about 2-3 minutes. Optician wasn’t concerned and my eye sight is down (apart from a few minutes in the morning)

fairislecable · 08/02/2020 09:13

If I have a UTI it is usually haemorrhagic cystitis when passing urine it doesn’t burn like normal cystitis but without looking it “tastes” wrong.

It also causes tingling in the whole body nerves usually felt on orgasm, but doesn’t feel pleasant!

I told a GP once and she gave me a very weird look so I haven’t mentioned it again.

RiftGibbon · 08/02/2020 09:19

Enthusiasm I have had a similar thing once or twice - it felt as though water was dripping into my leg (and once on my arm). There was no water and it quite disconcerting.

I've also remembered twice having a horrible spell of dizziness - feeling the room spinning, and my eyes doing the "flicker" to try to keep up, iyswim... except both times I have been stone cold sober, but extremely tired, and have woken from a deep sleep. The first time it happened we were in holiday, it was the first night in an unfamiliar setting and I ended up crawling to the toilet and back to minimise falling on the flagstone floors all through.

ageingdisgracefully · 08/02/2020 09:32

Glad someone has mentioned Javelin Arse. I used to get it on my period, but thankfully those days are well and truly over.

I get the feeling of clenching in my backside/ lower belly when someone gets hurt. Like a toddler falling over or something....Sad

At night I sometimes get a weird clenching sensation in my muscles. It only happens when I dream and wake up. Never in the day.

I also get Fluttering Fanny when at a height.

I can put myself into a kind of trance very easily. I'm still aware, but spaced out.

ippdipdo · 08/02/2020 09:56

What is javelin arse? Somehow I don't think I want to google it.

Notsure94 · 08/02/2020 10:11

The uneasy feeling re. nipples being touched sounds like D-MER which is connected to hormone changes triggered by breastfeeding. It's a horrible dysphoric feeling, anxiety and homesickness and disgust all at once... I had it breastfeeding but never in just normal touching.

I can squirt saliva from under my tongue at will like the McDonalds poster.

I can't drink water from a tap or a water fountain as bending over when drinking gives me an unbearable feeling of suffocation.

stoneysongs · 08/02/2020 10:21

I sometimes have exploding head syndrome, auditory hallucinations just as I'm falling asleep.

Think someone else has mentioned this - I find myself doing imaginary typing, fingers twitching as if typing something. If I concentrate I can usually work out what the word is based on what my fingers are doing.

ffswhatnext · 08/02/2020 10:34

@ageingdisgracefully
I do the trance thing. Been doing it for as long as I can remember.

ageingdisgracefully · 08/02/2020 11:02

ffs glad I'm not the only one doing the trance thing.

ippdipto Google it!

Alicenwonderland · 08/02/2020 11:54

I sneeze when I pluck my eyebrows! It's awful! I maybe sneeze about 10 times! I have to keep stopping. 😫🤣🤣

Alicenwonderland · 08/02/2020 11:55

I also go into a trance lots. My kids laugh at me as apparently my eye twitches when I do it and I get a weird look on my face!

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 08/02/2020 20:25

back again to say yes to the eyebrow plucking and sneezing....not every pluck though!

forgot to say about getting a really itchy roof of my mouth....I will have a STINKING cold within 24 hours

Likethebattle · 08/02/2020 23:21

@Frazzlerock I can also make my eyeballs ‘shudder’

INeedToGetHealthy · 08/02/2020 23:24

@cheeryandmerry mine does that too. Do you have a thyroid disorder? As I'm hypothyroid.
