Weird things our bodies do

ffswhatnext · 06/02/2020 11:58

I have a number of health issues to begin with and over the past couple of months I have proper hunger pains just before sneezing. (Will chat to gp at next review)

So what weird stuff does your body do?

OP posts:

@frazzlerock I can also do this and have never met anyone else who can, people find it freaky. It's like I can make my eyes vibrate. I can only do it a few times then cant do it very well for a bit.

Orangecatfish · 06/02/2020 21:41

I have extremely violent sneezes. They result in really random parts of my body hurting for no reason🤧.

DrMaryMalone · 06/02/2020 21:41

Before I had kids I used to feel my floating ribs popping in and out if I bent over the wrong way but if hasn’t happened in years. Pre children I also used to get referred shoulder pain the day before my period.

If I’m stressed I get a weird fluttery feeling in my back passage, like there’s a butterfly trapped in there! It usually comes and goes over a couple of weeks then disappears for a while.

I’ve also got a thumb nail that has permanent horizontal ridges from the nail bed being damaged as a teenager when I shut it in a car door and the nail has no cuticle.

hoteltango · 06/02/2020 21:46

When I saw the thread title, I thought I’d post about being able to wiggle my eyeballs, but then thought no-one would know what I was on about. Turns out there’s loads of us. Grin

Not sure what the purpose of that ability would be in terms of evolutionary advantage, except that one time when I told an obnoxious bloke to stare me in the eyes, I did the wobbly thing, and he ran away!

As for referred sensations, there’s a weird diagram called the cortical homunculus, which shows how different bits of the body are represented in the brain. There’s loads of receptors for the hands, which is why some people having a raised temperature, or whatever, get the sensation that their hands have become huge.

If I yawn while listening to a tune (say in the car) the tune sounds noticeably slower until my yawn finishes

tinyradish · 06/02/2020 21:53

@Cheeryandmerry i have the same lucky thyroid!

tinyradish · 06/02/2020 21:54

Oops, clicky not lucky...

Cheeryandmerry · 06/02/2020 22:00

It might be lucky!

scaryclare666 · 06/02/2020 22:01

Air comes out of my eye ducts when I blow nose too 🤣and every morning and night when I wash the right side of my face (at the temple) I get the hiccups, it drives me mad!

RiftGibbon · 06/02/2020 22:07

I can do the ear roaring thing - without closing or screwy up my eyes.
DH and FIL both sneeze violently - and always twice - when they have coughed.

I sometimes get a horrible burning pain running from the back top point of my left shoulder to the tip of my left little finger. No idea what triggers it, and thankfully it never lasts long.

eandz13 · 06/02/2020 22:17

Won't let me tag namechanger but I get the same uneasy feeling when my nipples are touched too! I've never been able to describe the feeling, like an anxiety bubble in my stomach. Thought it was just me!

HeyAssbutt · 06/02/2020 22:18

I sneeze at least once every time I have a bath. I dont have a shower so that's every day

Orchidflower1 · 06/02/2020 22:27

I get this weird unpleasant tingly feeling in my bottom/ perineum when I see someone get hurt. It started after I had kids and was initially just my own chn falling etc that triggered it. Now if I see someone hurt on tv it starts. Very odd!

Millettmum · 06/02/2020 22:29

Sometimes when I need a wee I get the shudder feeling like someone has walked over my grave.

MoonlightMistletoe · 06/02/2020 22:33

@Mooserp please get that checked.

When I yawn my ear drums open up everything sounds louder so I have to hold my nose and breath in through it at the same time to close them again :/

OopsUpsideYourBed · 07/02/2020 06:43

When I cross my arms in front of my body my lungs or diaphragm sort of gulp air as if there's a hole somewhere.

And if I hear someone blow a raspberry my tongue goes numb.

Frazzlerock · 07/02/2020 08:33

Ahh so many eyeball wobblers! I'm so pleased I'm not alone Grin

I agree it is a strange thing to be able to do in terms of evolution, but it is great fun for freaking people out.

Frazzlerock · 07/02/2020 08:35

Its got a name!
Voluntary Nystagmus

Here's a video I've found

Maighdeann · 07/02/2020 08:36

If I am having a pedicure, I get a nerve pain in my right shoulder when they exfoliate my left foot. Same on other side too.

cravingthelook · 07/02/2020 08:38

@Frazzlerock I never sneeze less than 4 and it's usually about 7 or 8
