Uber driver thinks my DD has coronavirus

Dowehaveit · 01/02/2020 19:24

Got an Uber his evening with 4 year old DD. Shes been under the weather for 2 days now. It's not so bad that I'll keep her home, but I have kept her away from any other children. She has a cough and a runny nose. No temperature, diarrhoea or vomiting.

Even I'm a bit poorly. But it feels like the common cold.

Should I call 111?

I don't think she has it, and there have been no confirmed cases in London (where we live). Getting slightly worried after the Uber drivers comment suggesting I take DD to hospital for coughing in his car.

OP posts:

Absolutely see a GP when you're worried, but how the fuck did Uber drivers get to comment on health????

meandmylot · 01/02/2020 19:31

There's actually a cough going around where I am, lots of children have it and no it wouldn't occur to me that they have Coronavirus. If she's well in herself I wouldn't worry.

Krazynights34 · 01/02/2020 19:31

Just call 111. It’s easy to do (though frustrating).

All 5 members of my family have a runny nose and a cough.
I have absolutely no concerns that any of us have Coronavirus.

meandmylot · 01/02/2020 19:33

Should add that I was assuming you haven't been to China recently, obviously if you have then yes it may be worth seeking advice.

delilahbucket · 01/02/2020 19:33

There is a very bad cold doing the rounds and a runny nose and a bit of a cough wouldn't cause alarm bells for me. Sounds like the Uber driver is paranoid. If she has any wheezing or breathing difficulties, then it is time to worry as that is the main symptom of coronavirus.

ThatLibraryMiss · 01/02/2020 19:34

Times must be hard if qualified doctors are driving ubers.

Scarydinosaurs · 01/02/2020 19:34

No reason to think it’s anything other than a cough if you’ve not had any contact with anyone with the virus

Shelley54 · 01/02/2020 19:34

It'll just be a cold. The driver has been reading the Daily Mail.

Unless there's a massive drip feed and you're just back from China...

Reginabambina · 01/02/2020 19:35

Coronavirus doesn’t really cause a runny nose. Just look up the symptoms, she doesn’t fit the description.

ChipotleBlessing · 01/02/2020 19:35

Have you recently returned from China? If not, there’s no need to call 111 for a fucking cold because a taxi driver and some people on the internet told you to.

OldTownRoadHome · 01/02/2020 19:36

Have you been to Wuhan recently?

If not it’s a bloody cold like most of the UK have at any one time. She doesn’t even sound that ill!

Do NOT call 111 for a cough and a runny nose and not even a temperature. If that kind of hysteria hits the country the NHS will fall over to the extent that if we do get hit by the actual virus we’d all be screwed Confused

SpeedofaSloth · 01/02/2020 19:36

Current advice here, OP. Unless you've got the relevant travel history the risk is very small.
We're three out of four family members sniffly/ coughing here too, get well soon.

iklboo · 01/02/2020 19:37

Your Uber driver is an immunologist? Shit, most of ours are moonlighting Deliveroo drivers.

DesLynamsMoustache · 01/02/2020 19:37

It's winter in the UK. Half the kids we know have a cold of some sort! I just had one myself.

DesLynamsMoustache · 01/02/2020 19:38

Unless he was picking you up from the airport after you flew in from Wuhan.

crustycrab · 01/02/2020 19:38

Did you have a nice time in Wuhan? Did the Uber driver pick you up from the airport following your flight home?

crustycrab · 01/02/2020 19:38

Heh. Great minds des

8by8 · 01/02/2020 19:39

Unless you’ve just flown in from wuhan there is almost no chance she has coronavirus. It’s a cold. There are only 2 cases in the whole of the UK.

WorraLiberty · 01/02/2020 19:39

FFS she's got a cough and a runny nose and you want to call 111?

And say what?

Dave the Uber driver thinks she's got the corona virus?? Confused

LittleSwede · 01/02/2020 19:40

At this stage most people in the UK (who haven't been to China recently) who has a cold or cough have either a common cold or maybe even seasonal flu.

In a few weeks, if the coronavirus spreads across the country, we might have an issue where people will be unsure if their symptoms are common cold, 'normal' flu or coronavirus.

bigbluebus · 01/02/2020 19:40

Are you sure he wasn't just being flippant OP? It is the cold and flu season in the UK. No need to think it's coronavirus unless you've been to China or in close contact with someone who has recently returned from infected areas.

Winterfellismyhome · 01/02/2020 19:40

Why would you even take that seriously? Was he a qualified doctor?

Nixen · 01/02/2020 19:40

I’m sorry but wtf?! No wonder the nhs is so bloody stretched

Waxonwaxoff0 · 01/02/2020 19:41

This hysteria is ridiculous. Don't call 111 for a cough for goodness sake.
