Uber driver thinks my DD has coronavirus

Got an Uber his evening with 4 year old DD. Shes been under the weather for 2 days now. It's not so bad that I'll keep her home, but I have kept her away from any other children. She has a cough and a runny nose. No temperature, diarrhoea or vomiting.

Even I'm a bit poorly. But it feels like the common cold.

Should I call 111?

I don't think she has it, and there have been no confirmed cases in London (where we live). Getting slightly worried after the Uber drivers comment suggesting I take DD to hospital for coughing in his car.

It's cold season, coughs, colds and sniffles are going around. Unless you have a real reason to believe that your DD has come into contact with someone who has coronavirus, then it would be a huge overreaction to assume that she has anything other than a standard cold.

The Uber driver is probably one of many who refuse (illegally) to take Guide Dogs because they are “dirty”.

There's a massive population of Chinese students where I live and yesterday I treated them like human beings and walked right past a group of said Chinese students, then stopped to talk to one of the lads because he wanted to ask if I knew where a specific shop was...I was then absolutely berated by a random woman who was "oh so concerned" with my health, do I have children, I should report you to social services etc Hmm.

She's probably one of those people that refuse to have a Chinese takeaway now..

The shopkeeper with the mask will be trying to prevent others getting his cold, or trying to signal that he's not a danger to others since some people are having hysterics every time they see anyone who they think might be Chinese.

Even in areas where there are one or two confirmed cases of the Wuhan coronavirus all you can really do it apply the normal winter anti flu precautions - wash your hands a lot, avoid crowded places where you might be trapped with people sneezing on you as much as you can, be aware of touching surfaces that might be harboring potential nasties such as door handles, the grab bars on trains and buses, etc. A child sniffling most like just has the regular seasonal sniffles, unless there's reason to suspect they've been exposed (family member recently returned from the area affected, etc).

No giving people directions! Making sure that they wander around lost instead is an excellent way of preventing the spread of coronavirus!

My DH is Asian and has noticed a few people looking at him funny since this all kicked off. He's never been to China in his life.

A little compassion folks! Taxi & uber drivers are on the front lines of this coronavirus thing. They have no means to protect themselves while earning a living. If I were the uber driver, I'd think the same thing. The small discomfort passengers endure from being questions about their health is SO INCREDIBLY MINOR compared to the risk these drivers incur driving our sneezing, coughing bodies around. Google around, you'll see numerous reports of taxi drivers in Asia contracting coronavirus from passengers, as well as one scare from an Uber driver in London after he drove a confirmed coronavirus patient to the hospital.

Jesus Christ it will be a cold.

My mum had a dreadful cough over Christmas that took weeks to clear, I caught it over New year and had it for a good couple of weeks, then dh caught it in January.

Last week ds started coughing. We have not travelled anywhere and don;t know anyone who has travelled anywhere. Some kids at school went to Southern Italy but he started coughing well before they arrived back.

But people keep asking him if he has Coronavirus!
