Uber driver thinks my DD has coronavirus

Got an Uber his evening with 4 year old DD. Shes been under the weather for 2 days now. It's not so bad that I'll keep her home, but I have kept her away from any other children. She has a cough and a runny nose. No temperature, diarrhoea or vomiting.

Even I'm a bit poorly. But it feels like the common cold.

Should I call 111?

I don't think she has it, and there have been no confirmed cases in London (where we live). Getting slightly worried after the Uber drivers comment suggesting I take DD to hospital for coughing in his car.

Correction - have, not has.

You have absolutely got to be kidding. No one can be this stupid.

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 01/02/2020 19:44

Ther was a list of symptoms on BBC and runny nose/sneeze was listed as NOT a symptom of corona virus.

DD and half the kids at school have had runny noses and chesty coughs for the last couple of weeks.

Madratlady · 01/02/2020 19:46

Are you Chinese? If so the driver is being an idiot based on your ethnicity. Otherwise the driver is just being an idiot. It’s winter, people get coughs and colds in winter. By all means call 111 if you’re worried, that’s what it’s there for and, having worked for them I can assure you people phone about much sillier things than a child with a cough, but I’m a little baffled that you’re even considering that there might be a reason to be concerned based on an Uber driver’s opinion.

Dowehaveit · 01/02/2020 19:49

Times must be hard if qualified doctors are driving ubers

Thanks for the laugh. I'm no longer concerned. Annoyed with driver. I'll get a low rating from him no doubt

Ffs so how exactly do you think your daughter has been exposed to the virus 🙄

Phoning 111 for a runny nose & cough is ridiculous

JemimaPuddleCat · 01/02/2020 19:51

He's an idiot.

Can I ask, though, why you feel it necessary to keep her away from other children, but no-one else?

LarkDescending · 01/02/2020 19:52

Sorry about your Uber rating! Lots of (good old traditional British) winter lurgies going round London just now. I have a nasty wheezy one. Hope DD is better soon.

Runmybathforme · 01/02/2020 19:52

Give me strength !

FenellaMaxwell · 01/02/2020 19:53

Does he display his medical license next to his Uber license?

PotholeParadise · 01/02/2020 19:57

This is going to be like 2009 when one of my friends posted about having "swine flu" and demanding anti-viral drugs from her GP three SEPARATE times.

It's winter. Colds are going round.

littlejalapeno · 01/02/2020 19:59

Looool oh I love it. It’s the middle of winter, cold and flu season and she’s a kid which means she’s in a Petrie dish of germs all the time. But doctor Uber thinks he can diagnose corona virus in a passenger sitting behind him. Are you really going to let him press your buttons? Unless she has a raging fever that you can’t bring down with paracetamol and is struggling to breath, I think she’ll be fine 😂🤦‍♀️

summervines · 01/02/2020 19:59

He's clearly not getting enough work as a doctor, to think I thought that the NHS were short of doctors.

Maybe I'd better phone 111 as we all have an horrendous cough at the moment, we've never been to China but we did get a takeaway from the local Chinese restaurant three weeks ago. That is how ridiculous that Uber driver is being.

practicallyperfectwithprosecco · 01/02/2020 20:07

I've got flu at moment - kids are concerned I have coronavirus however I pointed that that the nearest I have got to China is the takeaway last weekend

RomeoLikedCapuletGirls · 01/02/2020 20:07

Unless he was picking you up from the airport after you flew in from Wuhan.

Srictlybakeoff · 01/02/2020 20:07

Don’t think you ge5 a runny nose with corona virus

Lordfrontpaw · 01/02/2020 20:08

Even if he was a qualified doctor - I doubt he’d be able to make the diagnosis!

ArnoldBee · 01/02/2020 20:08

I've had a cough since the beginning of december so I dont know what your uber driver would say about me. You've got 2 choices - carry on as normal or quarantine your household for 14 days. I know which one I would choose!

TheMotherofAllDilemmas · 01/02/2020 20:09

I honestly thought I had the Coronavirus yesterday, today I know I have cholera!

Honestly OP, if it looks like a normal cold, most probably it is. Besides, the advice is NOT to go to A&E but to self quarantine at home.

If everybody start calling 111 for advice on common cold, the people who really need the service wouldn’t be able to go through.

Dowehaveit · 01/02/2020 20:09

The driver wasn't being flippant, he was serious. Mentioned that he has children too so probably thinks my DD will infect him and his children?

We are not Chinese. Never even been to China.

I wasn't really worried. Just offended that he thought DD might have the virus just from coughing in his car.

Dowehaveit · 01/02/2020 20:11

I would feel responsible if another child caught her cold. And I'd imagine other parents would be hacked off with me for exposing their child to a cold
