What is a luxury item you would never buy, regardless of your ability to afford it?

can we have a thread of what things people would buy then.because i feel bad for wanting some of these things haha!

Firecarrier · 01/02/2020 05:06

Personalised number plate.

Why would you want a poor version of your name for all to see. Confused

kateandme · 01/02/2020 05:09

but dont you think all those people who once didnt have the oney like us said the same thing we all are now.i do think some would change their minds.

beyoncessweatband · 01/02/2020 05:13

People won't buy a yacht? How much money do you have!

Anyway, mine is a designer bag costing more than £500

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 01/02/2020 05:13

I can't afford any luxury item so moot point but I have often thought if I were rich I would still drive a polo and live in my terrace house as I don't need any more than that.

dottiedodah · 01/02/2020 07:03

A boat as I cant swim very well ! also No to a fur coat, Cosmetic Dentistry of the 30k type(Hate the Dentists!) Also 4 wheel Drive (only 5 feet tall so difficult to navigate !)

WateryFowls · 01/02/2020 07:04

Any kind of water going vessel. I just don't get it and I get horribly sea sick. So no yachts for me!

byvirtue · 01/02/2020 07:15

Designer shoes! I bought a pair of Manolo’s back in my twenties and they broke the first time I wore them, I was furious but it taught me an excellent lesson.

I am now partial to expensive wellies but they don’t count.... not talking about hunters they are crap!

evilharpy · 01/02/2020 07:21

Personalised number plate for me too, would hate this

Not sure I could ever bring myself to buy a brand new car. Would rather buy 6 months old so it’s had the initial massive depreciation when driven off the forecourt.

Don’t think I’d buy a peloton bike.

whiteroseredrose · 01/02/2020 07:23

Most 'stuff'.

No interest in flashy cars, clothes, houses etc.

With my lottery win I'd be buying up land to turn into woodland and meadows.

crosser62 · 01/02/2020 07:24

That shite that people inject into their mouths/faces /lips. Never ever. Why? Why do they do this?

Handbags/shoes/clothing that costs the equivalent of the average persons monthly wage. Next is the poshest shop that I go in, perfectly lovely clothes in there.

Stuff that gets stuck on a person...eyelashes/finger nails/hair bits and bobs. Do they not get annoying and in the way?

Flash cars. I just want to get from A to B at the speed limit in a comfortable way. I normal everyday car will do thanks.

Huge house. Just one that is big enough for the crosser clan will do me.

Not only am I grumpy but I’m also a very very simple being, as long as we are all comfortable and fairly happy, nothing else is on my radar tbh.

LisBethSalander07 · 01/02/2020 07:27

Botox and lip fillers. And veneers.

They cost a fortune and make people look like they've just been unarchived from Madame Tussauds.

Bluesheep8 · 01/02/2020 07:31

Champagne or really expensive wine.

Orangecatfish · 01/02/2020 07:32

One of those animal skin rugs with the head still attached. And anything fur.

AdultHumanFemale · 01/02/2020 07:32

New tech items; unsustainable in terms of resource extraction. If at all necessary, second hand every time.
A second home / holiday home; eroding rural economies or contributing to housing shortage.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 01/02/2020 07:34

Expensive wine
Any designer bag over £5k

Waxonwaxoff0 · 01/02/2020 07:37

An expensive watch, or diamond jewellery. I don't wear any jewellery and hate the feeling of things round my wrists and neck.

getyourgrooveon · 01/02/2020 07:41

There is very little I wouldn't buy, given enough moolah heh.

But real fur/exotic animal skin would be on the not-buy list.

madroid · 01/02/2020 07:42

Anything with a label. Triumph of marketing over intelligence!

Silly kitchens. Marble worktops that will outlive your great grandkids. You just don't need them for that long so it's not worth paying so much more for.

And expensive islands with sockets or sinks in. Not worth the +++£ IMHO.

Designer clothes. £200 for a t-shirt? Bugger off!

Soontobe60 · 01/02/2020 07:43

I came on here with much simpler suggestions!
For me, it's expensive butter, wine that's more than £7 a bottle, fillet steak (ribeye is sooo much better) and Coca Cola ( Sainsbury's own label is just as nice).
But I'd also add personalised numbr plates, Range Rover Evoque, handbags costing more than my weekly food bill and plane tickets that cost more than basic economy seats.

Avelinebread · 01/02/2020 07:45

My husband bought me a burberry bin cover for Christmas but I returned it. Even I am embarrassed at having what is essentially a hair scrunchie that cost £250 Grin I got a scarf instead

Avelinebread · 01/02/2020 07:46

Bun not bin. That really would be shit

AdaFromYorkshire · 01/02/2020 07:56

Interesting thread. For me, all of the above. It's not a moot point as I can afford them but I don't feel the need for fancy cars, a large house, designer clothes or unnecessary tech. My luxury items are a Steinway grand piano and a few acres of woodland. They give me far more pleasure than anything.

Simonsaysitschristmas · 01/02/2020 07:57

Agree with personalised number plate. Very tacky in my opinion.

Also, designer clothes for babies & children. They are just going to a) get them messy b) grow out of them.
