How often do you air the house in this weather?

I do daily, extra jumper if nec, no matter how nippy outside. Am I the only one?

Not fully when it’s so damp outside but still open the small top windows in bathroom and my room daily (rarely fully shut tbh). Other rooms as and when I feel they’re a bit stale/pongy

Meemm · 25/01/2020 20:57

This thread is legit life changing. I will be airing out the house daily for now on. For real.

Mum2jenny · 25/01/2020 20:58

Maybe I’ve misunderstood the question. I do not air the house, by my definition, if the heating is on. But most of the windows are on vent all year round. Does that count??

beyoncessweatband · 25/01/2020 21:01

Never , though my cleaner does . She must smell the must that I don't 😂

Disfordarkchocolate · 25/01/2020 21:02

Window locked a tiny bit open in my bedroom and the bathroom window open and closed through they day depending on need. I can't sleep in a musty bedroom.

user1494670108 · 25/01/2020 21:03

Very rarely but I do live in a big old draughty Victorian house it certainly never smells musty.
I never realised it was such a thing!

DickDewy · 25/01/2020 21:04

We have the upstairs windows open 24/7 all year round.

stuffingball · 25/01/2020 21:04

All windows on the catch 24/7 (or wide open in summer). Cannot stand stale smell in the house. If I've been out at work and dh at home slobbing about, he never opens the windows and you can definitely tell Envy

Doilooklikeatourist · 25/01/2020 21:04

I open my bedroom window every morning for an hour or so
The front door opens into the kitchen and I leave that open for 20 mins while I’m sorting things out in the morning

And it’s a draughty old house , so it airs quite well on its own

The heating and the log burner are only on in the evening anyway

I hate stuffy houses ( yes , inlaws , I’m looking at you )

bellinisurge · 25/01/2020 21:05

Every day. Bedroom window open all night.

Obviouspretzel · 25/01/2020 21:07

Isn't your house freezing in this weather though? Or do you just have the heating pumping ?

I like to air mine but some of these responses seem like you'd basically be living outside for most of the day. If I left mine open as long as that, it would take a day to warm the house through again.

Clymene · 25/01/2020 21:08

Never. My goose is so bloody draughty it doesn't need me to open windows. And no, it doesn't smell fusty. It's not a museum Confused

ElloBrian · 25/01/2020 21:09

Bedrooms and bathrooms every day. And bathroom vents left open all the time other than in Arctic weather. Can’t understand anyone who doesn’t. Doesn’t the house smell stale ?!

ElloBrian · 25/01/2020 21:09

I air the beds every day too !

bellinisurge · 25/01/2020 21:12

@Obviouspretzel , no. Only have heating on when we get up and when we go to bed. Otherwise off. We have a multi fuel stove in the one room we spend most time in.

BackyardChickens · 25/01/2020 21:13

Every day I air the house. I can always smell houses that don’t get aired.

maddiemookins16mum · 25/01/2020 21:15

Bathroom window ajar most of the day.
Bedroom window open all night.
Back door open several times a day.

Fizzypoo · 25/01/2020 21:16

Every day.

Bathroom window is always open unless we're on holiday.

Bedroom window and kitchen window are open daily in the morning and shut before work if it's cold.

Southmouth · 25/01/2020 21:16

Daily. Our bedroom and bathroom is always on the latch. But when I get up in the morning I open all the upstairs windows for a hour or so.

I never see anyone else in our street have a single window open even in the summer so they must think we’re mad with our windows open in all weather but you can really notice the difference if it hasn’t been aired.

AlexaAmbidextra · 25/01/2020 21:20

My goose is so bloody draughty

Your poor goose. I feel sorry for it. 😂

Llareggub · 25/01/2020 21:27

Pretty much every day, although my bedroom window is always open. I will only close it in high winds.

I keep all the other windows open for at least an hour, and always when I’m cooking because I get very hot.

lucysmam · 25/01/2020 21:28

CrumpetandSausage; we don't have extractor fans in either. There was one supposed to go in the bathroom when repairs were done in early 2018, but they never put it in.

& there isn't one in the kitchen either (but that's very strangely laid out & knackered so didn't surprise me in the slightest tbh).

BustedDreams · 25/01/2020 21:35

Bathroom and bedroom windows always open ... day, night, snow, wind, rain ... we all need fresh circulating air Grin

Smokeyrobinson · 25/01/2020 21:37

Every morning without fail. My husband is not impressed!!

Clymene · 25/01/2020 21:42

Me too @AlexaAmbidextra GrinGrin
