Inspired by other thread with hardly any detail.

I’m American. Was in Rome at an Irish pub with karaoke. An 80s pop song came on and all the British and Scottish people I was with knew every word. It was upbeat and I loved it. But I’d never heard it before. We are all the same age so I know all of the English music that was popular in the US in the 80s.

I’ll listen to anything you suggest here and see if that’s it.

James - sit down

Not anywhere near the 80s!

Come on Eileen?

TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 18/01/2020 19:29

Sit down was originally released 89

Wiki says originally released in 1989 😂😂
To be fair I missed the bit about 80s in the OP!

HannaYeah · 18/01/2020 19:32

Just listened to James -Sit Down.
That was not it but I had never heard it so was glad to listen.

The dog got up and danced with me so that means she liked it.

I do know Come on Eileen. I’d say anyone my age that grew up in the US has heard that one. Smile

The Proclaimers - 500 miles
Black lace - Agadoo

NeedAnExpert · 18/01/2020 19:34

This is very needle in haystack. So you remember anything - a lyric/style/what the singer sounded like?

Letthemysterybe · 18/01/2020 19:35

James - sit down

I imagine OP thinking “I love this song that repeats ‘oh sit down’ a gajillion times, what can it possibly be called??!!”

ALongHardWinter · 18/01/2020 19:36

My first thought was 500 miles by The Proclaimers.

Taddda · 18/01/2020 19:36

Duran Duran, Ah-ha..?

TheMemoryLingers · 18/01/2020 19:36

Very late 80s but 'I'm gonna be (500 miles) by the Proclaimers? That's an everybody sing type song.

BluebellsareBlue · 18/01/2020 19:38

I think the proclaimers were quite big in the US, certainly they had 500 mile or letter to America on a film, could have been Benny and Joon. Dignity by deacon blue OP?

TheMemoryLingers · 18/01/2020 19:38

Wake me up before you go-go (Wham) ?

Elisheva · 18/01/2020 19:40

StCharlotte · 18/01/2020 20:36

StCharlotte · 18/01/2020 20:38

Actually all Catpuke's suggestions are great (except maybe T'Pau).
