I know a baby Brian. I was a little surprised when his mum told me he wasn't named after anyone in particular, she just likes the name.

Some of the names listed are really nice though. Nothing wrong with, for example, Margaret, Rosemary, Linda, Gloria, Jean.

Some pretty odd choises. Adolf, Judas def but the majority I can see making a comeback.

SoundofSilence · 15/01/2020 23:26

My DS's name is in this thread. He may forgive me one day. I just liked it Blush. In my defence DP and I were big Ray Harryhausen fans back in the day. It could have been worse. It could have been Perseus.

Confuddledtown · 15/01/2020 23:26

My husband is called Nigel and I get really irrationally annoyed about it. Who looks at a sweet little newborn and goes, I know, we'll call him Nigel.

fruityconfusedhotdog · 15/01/2020 23:26

My DD has a Horace in her class! I also know a toddler Claire.

My youngest has one if the names mentioned as well!

ExohExohGossipgirl · 15/01/2020 23:27

Neville

The post about Nigel reminded me.

Wayne

They’ll be back, give it 10-20 years! I bet all our grandchildren will be called Paul, Andrew, Julie and Claire.
I know a 6 year old called Dave which is just plain weird, Dave should be at least 45 and probably have a beard!

Personal hates:
Dorcus
Bertha
Gertrude

Yuck! All hard Germanic sounding names.

I love Edith and Esme.

MrsEricBana · 15/01/2020 23:28

Clive, Derek, Nigel, Sharon, Tracy

Same with Neil.

PickAChew · 15/01/2020 23:29

Sylvia is a lovely name. It means woodland.

Dowser · 15/01/2020 23:31

Olive and Agnes..but I know sisters aged about 3 and 5

CurlyhairedAssassin · 15/01/2020 23:31

Pick: yes, I do like how it sounds, I just don’t know any young Sylvias. Maybe that’s due a comeback.

This thread is pretty short-sighted. Trevor, Nigel, Barbara etc simply aren’t from long enough ago. My parents (in their late 70s) are aghast at the revival of Edwardian names like Edith and Florence, which they find unbelievably hick because they were their parents/grandparents’ names. Keith and Malcolm will seem novel and desirable again after long enough has passed.

CreekIsRising · 15/01/2020 23:37

To clarify, I don't dislike any of the names I've mentioned, just doubt that the next cycle will include them. Thinking about it that's probably wrong though - I remember thinking no one would ever call their kiddie Mabel and now everyone is.

Bezalelle · 15/01/2020 23:39

Clive
Gaynor
Beryl

CreekIsRising · 15/01/2020 23:39

I've thought of one though: Chardonnay. And Teegan, which was mystifyingly popular around 20 years ago but not before or since, so there are never going to be loads of fond grannies knocking around that kids get named after.

Couch25k · 15/01/2020 23:40

Oooh I absolutely love Pearl and Olive!

DH is 100% against those names but I just love them. No more little ones for us, so my car is called Olive instead Grin

theThreeofWeevils · 15/01/2020 23:41

Jennifer

which is fucking horrible, but still fairly common in the US, or that is the impression I get
