Who mentioned ‘Dorcas’
Horrible needs to be banned from everyone’s memory forever... it makes me think of sewing needles/pins I think a brand name at some ‘point’ in time

TheChosenTwo · 15/01/2020 22:43

I was going to say Keith, several have beaten me to it!
Also Trevor, Kevin, Brian, Margaret, Sheila and Jean.
Well, people will name their children other names and then use some of these more dated choices as middle names because they will be names of grandparents. And then they will start coming back into fashion!
However I teach a boy called Wayne and in recent years have taught 2 girls named Maud...

WarmSausageTea · 15/01/2020 22:47

The old ‘virtue’ names, like Patience, Hope, Faith and Prudence seem to be dead and buried.

Personally, I quite like them, but it’s always struck me as odd that there aren’t any such male names.

MyHairNeedsASnip · 15/01/2020 22:47

I know a couple of Alan's under 5, and Vera made a comeback a couple of years ago - Veronica is a pretty cool name really. I know a little Colin and a little Ralph and a baby Mark also.

Sharon is my contribution. No offence to Sharon's because I know some lovely ones.

palomapear · 15/01/2020 22:48

I know a 12 year old Kenneth. Named after a grandparent.

3littlerabbits · 15/01/2020 22:50

Edith is beautiful

Shinygoldbauble · 15/01/2020 22:50

Mine, my husband's and my 4 siblings names all appear on this thread. All 70s and 80s born.

Dozer · 15/01/2020 22:50

Love some of these. I would v much like 70s names to come back.

Basil, Rosemary and Margaret were on my list but DH (who would himself suit the Basil) wasn’t keen.

Pyjamaface · 15/01/2020 22:50

DS has a Nigel in his class and there's a Deirdre in the year below!

Sumsuch · 15/01/2020 22:52

ArthurDentsSpaceTowel · 15/01/2020 22:54

Adolf?

CreekIsRising · 15/01/2020 22:54

Male virtue names seem to be more prevalent outside white UK groups. Maybe Felix, Earnest (although that's not really used now), Augustus (again, never hear it now), Victor (more European really)?
