My best friend is called Malcolm, unfortunately I can't take it seriously as the first cabbage patch kid I ever owned, (and still have) is called Alistair Malcolm.

Toddlerteaplease · 23/01/2020 13:12

The cabbage patch kid has far more hair than he does. Grin

I rather like Trevor
And Vera!
These are names with character.

Lots of Graces though - maybe I know too many religious types Hmm

Reading this chat is like reading the family tree of my DH’s family (who are lovely).
One name I hope never comes back is Susan. I know more people called Susan than any other name and I cannot stand it!

Anne and Mary are not unknown though Anna and Maria are much commoner nowadays. I have met a couple of small children called Agnes, though the parents tend to acknowledge it as old-fashioned. I would have thought of Mavis and Belinda as very old-fashioned - but I do know a Belinda in her mid-20s.

WarmSausageTea · 24/01/2020 18:27

@Hopefullysmart this is excellent news, but if she has boys, what about Endeavour, Ernest or Victor? Grin

marton4710 · 24/01/2020 20:54

Olive
Winifred
Gertrude
Myrtle
Nora

Reginald
Percival
Wilfred
Clarence
Herbert

ddl1 · 24/01/2020 21:58

I've met a couple of children called Wilfred! Olive as such is rare, but Olivia is very common among small girls at present.

yikesanotherbooboo · 24/01/2020 23:14

This is interesting; obviously some areas are different to others. Around here, eg, olive and Wilfred are quite mainstream and have been for a good few years. I haven't met a little Ann/ Anne yet but there are a few Marys which I love!

Dongdingdong · 24/01/2020 23:27

Also one of my sons is Frederick, which has been mentioned a couple of times

I can’t believe anyone would mention Frederick - it’s in the top 10 most popular boys names!

AgentCooper · 24/01/2020 23:30

I know a 5 year old Vera and a two year old Bruce Smile

I don’t see Gary ever coming back. Or Nigel, especially post-Farage. I think Sharon and Maureen are goners too.

confusedofengland · 25/01/2020 17:53

@Dongdingdong Frederick appeared twice on page 17! I think that posters meant that people tend to use Freddie as the full name these days.

I also know Olive, Walter, David, Michael, Mary all in primary school.
