I've not read the whole thread yet but I know a young Arthur and a young Violet. Violet is a very beautiful girl and the name really suits her.

Thing is, even names that seem like they will never be cool come around again eventually.

A few years back my friend married a Rupert whose brother is called Felix. These boys were not independent school types and neither are my friend and I. We literally thought Felix was the most bizarre and slightly hilarious name, we felt sorry for him. Rupert seemed only marginally better. But now both these names and Felix in particular are names one hears in the playground.

The names I currently think are the most out of vogue are:
Sharon
Tracey/Tracy
Debra
Wayne
Dwayne
Shane

Ones I can’t get my head round that are currently in:
Wilf
Alfred
Seth
Flo
Enid
Vera

A cautionary tale from the 70s - we had neighbours with 3 kids: Darren, Karen and Warren

There’s a 6 year old Norman in my daughters school. He’s the cutest thing ever with a mop of curly hair and looks like a little mad scientist!

JudgeRindersMinder · 17/01/2020 19:09

Cecil
Cyril

There’s a young Derek in my extended family

NotYourHun · 17/01/2020 19:13

Read this thread just to see how long before DS’ name got mentioned. Page three, not too bad 😂

The very old fashioned names I can see creeping back in as a lot of people will honour grandparents etc. It’s more the popular 60s/70s/80s names that are jarring currently.

Nigel
Kevin
Collin
Jason
Paul
Sharon
Tracey
Sheena
Claire
Michelle
Etc.

My son has John as his second name.He is 21 .Everyone in his various schools loved it (not in the UK) .His first name was listed here also.Everytime we have to give his name , people are really impressed because it is so normal but different. He loves his name.

I have not heard of a Heather for a long time. I think it is a beautiful name .

underneaththeash · 17/01/2020 19:19

DD had a friend called Paul at nursery, except that she thought his name was pull. We live in the SE and DD has a southern accent. DH is from Newcastle and I'm from near Manchester and clearly we couldn't pronounce Paul differently enough from pull!

We still walk past Paul in the village occasionally and DD asks after Pull (that she used to go to nursery with).

ShakeItUp · 17/01/2020 19:21

Gilbert
Godfrey
Mabel

NicelyStarched · 17/01/2020 19:25

I know quite a few Claires in their twenties. I think Outlander will bring it back.

Mlou32 · 17/01/2020 19:27

Senga. Absolutely bloody awful.

mastertomsmum · 17/01/2020 19:28

Only ever met one Godfrey and he thought it was a name that had never been in fashion.

Laughing 😂 at Paul/Pull. In East Anglia where you ‘stand in a cou for a fou minutes’ Hugh is a difficult name to have it comes out as Hoo or Who 😂

I have met a young Gillian recently. Also taught a Pauline and Sharon a couple of years ago. They would probably be about 11/12 now.

ToftyAC · 17/01/2020 19:31

Norman

GlamGiraffe · 17/01/2020 19:36

An awful lot of the names in this thread are regularly being used for babies and small children in the area of london I live, and areas I spend time in. Maybe it's a very London thing🤷‍♀️ .
I even know a toddler called Peregrine who is a lovely little boy with equally lovely parents 😊

Superlooper · 17/01/2020 19:43
