Had a cup of tea and biscuits, and a lovely chat about lightbulbs with Johnny Ball at a school science careers day. (I was there telling people his great it is to be a civil engineer). Not sure if he counts as famous or not!!

Anthony Hopkins - DM distantly knows him, he gave us tickets for King Lear (when he was Lear!) at the National Theatre and went backstage afterwards.

Nick Knowles - in a lift in Birmingham. I thought he was a nob head, but I have a friend who was some of the local labour (gardener) on a DIY SOS, who address me he is OK.

Eddy Merckx (old pro cyclist, won the Tour de France 5 times), at luggage reclaim at Las Vegas airport. Was a bit star struck. He was a bit grumpy, but we had all been flying fir about 14 hours.

I delivered paper to much of the mid80s Thatcher cabinet.

Lailaha · 04/01/2020 20:33

Tom Baker served up beans at one of our breakfasts at camp when I was a teenager - all I could think was "oooh, it's Dr Who" Grin

Freddiemercurysjeans · 04/01/2020 20:51

@elmosducks I saw Martin Platt at the top of Scafell!

WhoisitnowRalph · 04/01/2020 21:10

Kelly Jones of Stereophonics, after a gig in Shepherds Bush - pleasant, tired, apologetic for being dragged away by PR people (for a kebab, he reckoned) after signing a few autographs.

Kika Mirylees (one of the Julie's in Bad Girls, did a stint in Eastenders and is in Not Going Out) - I vaguely knew her for a little while as we had horses at the same yard. I had no idea she was an actress at the time, I always thought she was hilarious if a bit aloof, and that she was a good horsewoman. She has a cut glass accent in RL.

I've seen files and personal details for quite a few very famous people as part of my job, but confidentiality agreements mean we dare not mention any names aloud. Some names were so big that they were redacted from the files before my team could view them, which only led to wild guesses as to who it could be...

My sister worked at the BBC so we met quite a few famous people at her parties. She arranged for my 4 year old daughter to visit the set of Doctor Who and meet Tom Baker but best of all, the presenters of Play School came to our house for lunch and then opened the school fete. They were wonderful and stayed all afternoon talking to children and signing autographs. After that the BBC changed the rules about celebrities doing such things.
