I haven't ever met any famous people.

OP posts:
Frouby · 04/01/2020 16:01

Bob Monkhouse years and years ago. He said I had the most remarkable breasts. Am proud still.

Dawn French in a lift. She was grumpy.

One of the chuckle brothers also in a (different) lift.

Camilla Parker Bowles just after she married Charles. They were together but she was the only one that spoke.

Paul Shane came to our secondary school and ate his lunch in the school canteen. He had 2 puddings.

Dean Gaffney and his mate from eastenders (not welard). They bought me and my mate a drink.

A few others as well.

Heyduggeefordays · 04/01/2020 16:01

Wagner - met him not long after he got the boot from xfactor when he was staying at the hotel I worked in. Can honestly say the man is bonkers!

AmIthechristmasfairy · 04/01/2020 16:22

@MadisonAvenue

Glad to hear that Frank Turner is as nice as he appears Smile

earsup · 04/01/2020 16:27

As well as Madonna, I forgot about Val Lehman...Bea smith in cell block H...she was in theatre in Eastbourne..I was meant to do a short interview with her...very rude and arrogant...forced a smile for a pic...and told me that she wouldnt answer any questions about cell block H as she was a professional actress etc...!!
Also met the Professor from doctor Who...we shared a hire car in france to get to another airport when flight was cancelled...he was lovely...my friend recognised the voice as you never saw him on screen....

4forkssake · 04/01/2020 16:36

@SimonJT we need a clue as to who you were dating that was on the Brits & GN show!

Funnily enough having skim read, it hasn't surprised me to read about those people who haven't been particularly pleasant

Hefzi · 04/01/2020 16:44

Attenborough - ghastly supercilious snob who only pays attention to the little people when he wants something from you. Makes me laugh when I see all the MN adoration for him Confused
Jeremy Bowen-sleazy and self-important.
Orla Guerin - neurotic and always looking over your shoulder for someone more important.
Yasser Arafat - much nicer than you might think, actually: charming, engaging and polite.
IDS - surprisingly personable (but met him socially - never worked with him)

SillyUnMurphy · 04/01/2020 16:53

Tom Hardy at a work thing. He was nervous, told me he was nervous Smile and rather short but very lovely and fun. Charlotte Riley, his wife was lovely too.

Taddda · 04/01/2020 17:05

@SillyUnMurphy I like to think what I'd do if I met Tom Hardy....often....ShockWink....in all honesty I'd probably turn red, giggle stupidly shout 'I love you!' and run....

scarecrowhead · 04/01/2020 17:13

Used to hang about with Paddy McGuinness in the mid 90s

Taddda · 04/01/2020 17:14

'Let the Mums see the Net!!!' @scarecrowhead

SillyUnMurphy · 04/01/2020 17:15

@Taddda he was very lovely. I can’t give away too much but he was there for an honour and was very humble, quiet and just thoroughly nice.

HarryHarry · 04/01/2020 17:25

Through work I’ve met just about everyone in Hollywood movies. The nicest was probably Orlando Bloom. I had no idea who he was at the time - I’m not a fan of anything he’s been in - but he was very warm and friendly.

Simon Pegg was rude and arrogant and kept his sunglasses on indoors.

silenceofthemams · 04/01/2020 17:28

Bill Beaumont in a London restaurant, came over to say he thought our table conversation was hilarious (group of college friends having a reunion) and that we were a good distraction from their groups behaviour.

Roger Federer very charming, friendly and polite.

Sir Richard Attenborough, absolutely lovely man and super surprised that I'd been to see Gandi withy mum when I was a young teen. His wife was beautiful and charming too.

Hugh Grant drunk in a pub, good fun.

Lady Gaga, didn't say anything, just passed each other in Chateaux Marmont. I was trying to act casual, she smiled pleasantly.

George Michael at a petrol station very warm and funny.

Leigh Francis at the bar of a jazz club in Camden watching Pucho and his Latin Soul Brothers - seemed quite shy.

Floella Benjamin in a pizza hut in Streatham. She's adorable.

HarryHarry · 04/01/2020 17:28

Also met Orlando’s mum who I think is self-published children’s author. She was very keen to let everyone know who her son was and had a load of signed photos of him with her to give away. Bit odd.

iklboo · 04/01/2020 17:29

Ken Dodd - very funny & warm
Gordon Burns - nice & kind
Princess Anne - has a lovely chat
Roger McGough - spent a brilliant afternoon with him & a few others as a school prize

Will Carling - bit stand offish
Brian Moore (rugby) - great bloke, very friendly
Christopher Eccleston - very nice, down to earth
Sean Wilson - friendly
Charles Lawson (Jim McDonald) - bit gruff
The lady who played Betty Eagleston in Emmerdale - lovely & chatty. Gave me some jelly babies
Morrissey - bit arrogant (late 80s)
Darren Sadler (strong man) - tiny in height, very wide, nice bloke
Steve Cram - very tall, I caught him waiting for a cab but he was still nice
Terry Christian - utter, unmitigated tool
Jay Rayner - very funny & friendly. Remembered me from a Twitter convo
Hacker the Dog - hilariously funny and rude when no kids about Grin

iklboo · 04/01/2020 17:52

Ooh I forgot

Keith Floyd - went to an 'evening with' at a book shop. We were sitting in the front row and he kept asking his assistant to top up our glasses of wine. Raucous and a lot of fun.

Ally McCoist - bought me a vodka & Coke in a club in Glasgow. Quite the worse for wear but he was nice to us.

JamieFrasersSassenach · 04/01/2020 18:02

I have met:

John Nettles (Bergerac) - lovely
Donald and Jeremy Sinden
Alvin Stardust
Liza Goddard
Steve MacFadden - quite quiet, very nice though
Les McKeown (Bay City Rollers) - lovely!
Peter Cunnah of D.Ream - funny
Jason Donavan - very normal, down to earth
Stephen Mulhern - really nice
Peter Andre - really sweet and tiny - but very muscular
Queen & Prince Phillip, Prince Edward & Sophie - didn't actually meet them but came within inches at a Garden Party at Buckingham palace - the Queen is so tiny!

DH has met :

Royals as above
Germaine Greer (she was drunk apparently)
Michael Heseltine
Joe Swift (Gardeners World)
Martin Clunes

I'm sure I've met others but can't remember names.

Horsemad · 04/01/2020 18:35

@JamieFrasersSassenach, you haven't put a description against the Sindens, Alvin Stardust & Liza Goddard. Does this mean they were horrible?! 😆

SimonJT · 04/01/2020 19:39

@4forkssake It can be worked out by who else was a guest on GN, probably wouldn’t know who they are, but may recognise some of their work.

SmellMySmellbow · 04/01/2020 19:42

I've met Alvin Stardust. Very nice fella.

JamieFrasersSassenach · 04/01/2020 19:45

@Horsemad - no not at all - I was young when I met them - from what I remember the Sindens were both very nice (a bit boomy voice wise!).

And Alvin Stardust and Liza Goddard were probably the first famous people I met and was aware they were famous - I think they were very lovely but I seem to remember being in awe of them!!

ilovepixie · 04/01/2020 19:49

Darren Clarke a bit grumpy
Graeme McDowell a bit of an arse.
Cliff richard at church at school his manager wouldn't let him talk to us!

Boohooyouho · 04/01/2020 19:56
