I don’t think speed matters. Someone mentioned niko niko running. It’s basically really slow jogging and is supposed to be best for fitness.

princessspotify · 03/05/2020 07:18

I've downloaded the app and started last week although with shift work I'm all over the place. I think I will definitely have to repeat week 1 as I got so breathless. I'm not overweight just very unfit. I did enjoy it though and won't be giving up

TwistyHair · 03/05/2020 21:22

Did w5r3 today. 20 minute run. It was actually ok. Week 6 looks a bit easier so that’s good

I did that last week too @TwistyHair
Hope to go out today and get week 6 run 1 done.

TwistyHair · 04/05/2020 11:43

Nice @Notcoolmum. I’m enjoying it. Especially just having a bit of time to myself

RonBurgundyspanpipe · 04/05/2020 14:22

@TwistyHair @Notcoolmum did w6r1 today. Found it harder than the 20 minutes but tried to go a bit faster than usual. Covered more distance so must have worked. I'm enjoying the high at the end when I've completed each run.

Notcoolmum · 04/05/2020 15:32

@RonBurgundyspanpipe I remember that from other times of doing it. You think the next run will be easier after the 20 mins. But it isn't!!

TwistyHair · 04/05/2020 17:10

Maybe it’s getting into a rhythm that makes it easier rather than stop start.

MrsPerfect12 · 07/05/2020 18:45

I did W4 R1 today! Pleased with myself.

Cherrypi · 10/05/2020 11:17

Me too @MrsPerfect12 I can't believe I can run for five minutes. Got rained on today for the first time but it wasn't too bad. I'm doing almost 3km now which surprised me.

MrsPerfect12 · 10/05/2020 11:58

W4 R2 today, should of been yest but after our walk and teaching DD to cook I was out of time. The beers I had last night made it a struggle today 😂😂
Well done @Cherrypi. I haven't ran outside. I'm worried about the hills and not really flat beside me but I have been thinking treadmill is a bit boring so might have to try it soon.

Cherrypi · 10/05/2020 12:07

It's satisfying getting a bit further away from your house by the bell each time.

MrsPerfect12 · 15/05/2020 10:40

Wk5 R1 today. Pleased with myself.

Bananabell · 17/05/2020 11:36

Are you lot too far down the C25k road for me to join you as a newbie? Just did W1R1 - thought I'd be ok as I've been doing PE with Joe since the lockdown but I found it really hard!

Please tell me it gets easier?!

MrsPerfect12 · 17/05/2020 11:53

@Bananabell well done for starting. I couldn't run to save myself so you'll get there as we did. Just take it slow. I could probably fast walk my run so I'm slow but I'll work on my speed later.

I did wk5R2 looked ahead and the next run is 20 mins from today's 8 😱 I'm a bit worried about that.

howow · 17/05/2020 18:45

Hi everyone. As some of you might remember, I finished the couch to 5k program on 19th April this year (so nearly a month ago). Since then, I've not been keeping up the frequency at all - I ran another 30 mins on 24th April, 30th April and then had a big gap of 17 days until the run today. I did struggle today and felt nausea so was dry heaving partway through (I do think it's an allergic reaction as I only seem to ever get that if I run through grassy areas like parks but never on road..?!) and was way too warm so stopped at 21 minutes. Walked for about 7 minutes and then ran another 10 minutes - so did a total of 31 mins running (21mins+10 mins) covering 5.5 km but feel disappointed in myself that I couldn't do a continual 30 min run .. can't tell whether it's loss in confidence, loss in physical fitness or just a blip today (PMS week and warm weather) that's caused me to find it impossible to continue past 20 mins after a 17 day break :( @MrsHerculePoirot @Jfw82

firstimemamma · 17/05/2020 18:55

Hi all, I've downloaded the app, going for run 1 on Tuesday. Nervous and I know I'll be crap!

Before I had ds I used to run 5-7k regularly so i do have some experience but I'm very aware I'll be totally back to square one!

MrsHerculePoirot · 17/05/2020 23:51

@howow hello!!! I’ve mostly managed to keel going three times a week (occasionally twice). Some days my legs feel like lead and others fine. Like Jo says no rhyme or reason! I have reminded myself that going, however slow and if I need to walk now and again, is better than not going. I’ve stopped worrying about times and speed for a bit and am just aiming to get out three times a week. You ran for 31 minutes which is awesome! Keep going, you’ve totally got this 💪💪💪

Jfw82 · 18/05/2020 06:44

Hello @Howow and @MrsHerculePoirot I've been rubbish since I finished... first week after did 3 tines then last 3 weeks have only been out once and have struggled to keep up. Am planning to drop back to week 6 or 7 and build up again

howow · 18/05/2020 22:22

@MrsHerculePoirot wow good for you managing to still do runs 3x a week. I'm finding it much harder without the motivation of finishing the program having achieved it. Are you still consistently doing 30 min runs or doing shorter/longer runs?

Thank you :) Weirdly I've got achy muscles today which I haven't really had since the first few weeks of the program. It's surprising how much fitness can be lost in 3-4 weeks..!

@Jfw82 yea shocking how much fitness can be lost as quickly as it's gained :(

MrsHerculePoirot · 19/05/2020 00:40

@Howow @Jfw82 I think you’ll find your fitness comes back quickly. I should have gone today but didn’t - must go tomorrow!!!

I’ve been listening to final podcast repeatedly - I just kept doing that 30 minutes initially. Sometimes now I start running before the end of the warm up walk as if I’m with my kids they are faster on scooters etc... or sometimes I keep running after for a few minutes - to just get to the end of the road or section I’m on. Some days I stop after 20 minutes walk for a bit then try again for another five after a little walk! I’d say I usually do the 30 minutes though...

SenselessUbiquity · 19/05/2020 00:45

Hi! I have done about 5 x week 4 (over about two weeks) as I am so afraid of moving up to week 5. Anyone want to tell me its going to be ok?!

Any ex SPD sufferers taking up running and feeling any issues? My hips and lower back feel very stiff and painful. really trying to tell myself it's no biggy as I don't want to stop. My youngest child is 9 and I haven't had proper SPD symptoms for a very long time - but this feeling is very like them

MrsHerculePoirot · 19/05/2020 00:52

@senselessubiquitty go for it - you will be totally fine 💪

I repeated week three runs and week four runs but actually moving to week five and beyond was fine. The thought was definitely worse than the doing it. I just went really steady and slow and felt after I could have gone faster but I did it and if I can frankly ANYONE can!

SenselessUbiquity · 19/05/2020 12:58

Thank you MrsHerculePoirot! I did week 5 day 1 this morning and smashed it!
thank you for the encouragement.

I am so pleased, I haven't got this far since 2008 before I got pregnant with my first child. I have tried several times since and life (work, booze, work-triggered boozing, illness, asthma) have messed it up around the week 3 point and I've thought "what's the point".

I know I am carrying too much weight and it isn't helping and I feel really inspired to jump on this momentum and making some changes. I do love being able to trust their structure - it really does seem to make me able to do things I was not able to do before.

Does anyone have some tips for cheap, good running shoes for wide feet? I don't care about brands

MrsHerculePoirot · 19/05/2020 23:19

I always like asics for my wide feet I look for end of line older versions a bit cheaper.
