@howow I'm using Strava and normally fairly close to my Fitbit but always longer but i have realised I need to be careful as if I jog on spot (waiting to cross road to park) my Fitbit pauses and doesn't always kick in immediately after (realised after OJ slightly warmer days I ran in shortsleeves and saw watch went on pause

howow · 24/04/2020 20:15

Thanks @Jfw82 annoying I’ll never know my true speed. I’m gonna assume the more generous reading of 5.6km on strava is accurate or at least comparable as most people I know use it so at the very least it’s comparable.

howow · 24/04/2020 20:16

@Jfw82 also I don’t ever jog on the spot so no idea for such a large discrepancy every time..!

@Howow what I've found is my fastest splits match between watch and strava so prob fairly accurate either way ... or you're just so much faster the difference is more obvious!

MrsHerculePoirot · 24/04/2020 21:09

I just use Strava! No idea how accurate

howow · 24/04/2020 22:36

Thanks both :) glad to see most people use strava at least. Shows around 5.5 to 5.6km in 30 mins on strava and polar beats always but only ever 4.6-4.8km on the watch, so quite a large difference.

NoTeaForMe · 24/04/2020 23:21

I have an app on my phone called “goals-fitness” now everyone is talking about strava I’ve just downloaded it. But it’s disappointing thy I didn’t use it from the start. Is there a way to transfer “runs”?! Thanks

howow · 24/04/2020 23:37

@NoTeaForMe no idea whether you can transfer runs but for your next run, put both apps on. Then, you can work out the difference and use that to normalise the rest of your run distances from goals-fitness to strava distances.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 26/04/2020 23:12

this is an inspirational thread - I've been thinking about doing couch to 5k since just after lockdown started Grin
Still thinking, but this has nudged me a bit closer to doing!

What type of headphones are best?

howow · 26/04/2020 23:16

I use sony bluetooth headphones which work well for me but I know a lot of runners prefer earphones instead so it doesn't get too sweaty.

RonBurgundyspanpipe · 26/04/2020 23:23

Can I join? Just completed week 4 today, going at a Snails pace but going. 3.8km covered.

MrsHerculePoirot · 26/04/2020 23:25

@EveryDayIsADuvetDay I have Bluetooth mpow headphones that had a bit that goes around your ear to stop them falling out. Find them comfy. My music is clear but sometimes jo comes over a little crackly but not always.... haven’t worked out why yet!

Nunyabusiness · 27/04/2020 08:11

May I sneak in?

I got up at 6am, snuck downstairs like the most stealthiest of Ninjas (so as not to awaken the husband and children - loves of my life but MY GOODNESS are they doing my head in just being there every time I turn around!!) and dressed myself ready for the 30 Day Shred DVD that I'd told myself would count as 'personal time'

Anyway, I digress...

The aforementioned love-of-my-life husband took the PlayStation (which we use as a DVD player) from the living room to the bedroom last night, and I had not realised. 'No worries, Nunya' I think to myself, 'you're up now, just go for a run'

JUST GO FOR A RUN

What was I thinking? Week one run one done and I am DYING. I've been back about half an hour and I look like a tomato - when will the endorphins kick in??!!??!!

That's it. I've done run one. Run two on Wednesday!

Cherrypi · 27/04/2020 12:08

I think some people don't get an endorphins. I'm just relying on smugness. Finished week 2 on Saturday.

MrsPerfect12 · 27/04/2020 23:15

@Nunyabusiness that so funny! Hope the endorphins kick in for you

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 27/04/2020 23:23

thanks @MrsHerculePoirot - amazing that if you don't order by price, you can zoom from a fiver to £££!

I've ordered cheapish ones, the type you suggested that have a clip over the ear - I don't fancy the ones that go right inside the ear, or the padded ones that I think would be a bit sweaty and make you look a bit daft. Due on Thursday, so no excuses then.

Or do I need to get a new sports bra??????

MrsHerculePoirot · 28/04/2020 08:38

I am fairly large of boob and so I have a great tighr fitting one from bravissimo. I absolutely couldn’t run in anything else because of all the jiggling which becomes painful! I think it is whatever you feel comfy in tbh! I did buy new running trainers though early on!

TwistyHair · 28/04/2020 12:56

Just done week 5 run 1. I also run somewhere really hilly. And a lot of off road through woods and fields and along a river. So nice to be off road tho.

RonBurgundyspanpipe · 28/04/2020 18:18

twisty same run for me too. Felt much better today but glanced at the next run and see it gets a bit tougher.

TwistyHair · 28/04/2020 18:26

Yeah next run looks tough. I’m gonna go for it tomorrow. Or maybe next day. My knees are ever so slightly sore. I look forward to the runs this

TwistyHair · 28/04/2020 18:26

*though. Not this

RonBurgundyspanpipe · 28/04/2020 18:54

Yeah, I had the tiniest twinge in my shins on this one. I'm sticking to rest days religiously even though I am sometimes itching to run.

Cherrypi · 29/04/2020 08:40

Wearing two bras works well. I forgot to wear an extra one the other week and ended up with marks where the wires had rubbed. Didn't fancy running on the wet field last night and slipping.

MrsPerfect12 · 29/04/2020 16:52

Did my WK3R1 today, managed the increase okay. My gel insoles arrived so I hope that helps my knee.

Cherrypi · 30/04/2020 20:12

Just did Wk3R1 too. Wasn't too bad. I felt four longer runs was easier than six short ones. I feel I'm going too slowly though. Does speed matter?
