When are you taking the Christmas decorations down?

I keep eyeing up my Christmas decorations. On the one hand I usually leave them up until New Year and in many ways I haven't quite accepted that the festive period is over yet, but on the flip side I'm starting to yearn for a bit of normality and less clutter, and also I have a plumber coming on Monday to fit a new boiler and can't help wondering if less 'stuff' around generally might make the process easier.

When are yours coming down?

Twelfth night

ExpletiveFairylighted · 28/12/2019 11:00

Twelfth Night, we have our tree tucked into a corner where its not in the way and I'm always sad to see it go.

Ginfordinner · 28/12/2019 11:01

New Year's day. I don't put the tree up until the second half of December though.

I have taken the baubles off the tree and may dismantle the rest of it today. I'll leave the window lights and icicles up for a wee bit longer. I dont have a specific date to do it

WireBrushAndDettolMaam · 28/12/2019 11:03

Yesterday.

WeirdPookah · 28/12/2019 11:03

Probably tomorrow. It has been up since December 1st.

I never leave it up into January. Christmas feels done and celebrated already.

8paws8legs · 28/12/2019 11:03

Ours will be coming down tomorrow morning, I always like it to be away by new year once the day is over I start wanting the space back.

stargirl1701 · 28/12/2019 11:04

It only went up on Christmas Eve!

AlaskaElfForGin · 28/12/2019 11:05

I'll do ours on Monday probably. Kids older now, so not bothered about them staying up. Have a mega busy week next week then away next weekend so it'll need to be early this year. X

nocutsnobuttsnococonuts · 28/12/2019 11:09

I think we will take down Monday as dh only has Mondays and Thursdays off work, he has to go into the spider filled loft I'm not going up there!!! plus grandparents are taking DC out for the day so we can clean up too. I like it all away before I go back to work and new year. I start the new year with a completely cleaned house (in hopes I keep it like it!!)

DobbyLovesSocks · 28/12/2019 11:13

Normally take ours down NYD but am tempted to do it this weekend. I've been ill over Xmas (and for weeks prior) so not feeling at all festive this year which is not helping. Will see what DH and DS think

I'm just desperate to get house back to some semblance of normality and start tackling all the things that need doing (I feel taking decs down will help with the motivation)

VeraPamil · 28/12/2019 11:13

We put ours up on 20th this year, they’re coming down today. I always like to have them down by new year.

6 January.

As always.

ToftheB · 28/12/2019 11:17

Yesterday. We put it up on 3rd Dec though, so it's had a good run

BiteyShark · 28/12/2019 11:21

Mine will come down on Tuesday.

Kittykatmacbill · 28/12/2019 11:21

Jan 6th as always.

Pyjamaface · 28/12/2019 11:24

Next weekend probably. I haven't even started putting the presents away from under the tree yet

Armi · 28/12/2019 11:25

New Year’s Day. We put them up mid-December. I would like to leave them up until Twelfth Night, but with DH back at work from the 2nd it seems like time to clear the decks and start afresh then.

Rayn · 28/12/2019 11:26

Today!! All christmassed out! X

itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted · 28/12/2019 11:27

I put the real Xmas tee outside on Xmas day as we were going away for 2 nights and it has absolutely been the worst tree we've ever had - most of the bits had fell off it before Xmas day and I was sick of hovering around it - getting a fake tree next year

QuestionableMushroom · 28/12/2019 11:30

Tomorrow. It’s in the middle of the bay window which is where DS’s toys live and I can’t put any of his gifts away.

Cineraria · 28/12/2019 11:36

Twelfth night. I don't like it put up very early though. I like to do it when everyone has finished school/weekend before Christmas. This year DH persuaded me to decorate a week earlier and i can see why those who put it up at the start of December would be fed up with cleaning around it now.

Blibbyblobby · 28/12/2019 11:53

Twelfth night.

Dec 24th/25th was the start of the Christmas holiday season not the end. It was a period of celebration and socialising in the dark of winter.

I hate the cultural shift that Christmas is over once the gifts are given. It’s driven by the advertising cycle and it loses so much of the emotional point.
