When are you taking the Christmas decorations down?

I keep eyeing up my Christmas decorations. On the one hand I usually leave them up until New Year and in many ways I haven't quite accepted that the festive period is over yet, but on the flip side I'm starting to yearn for a bit of normality and less clutter, and also I have a plumber coming on Monday to fit a new boiler and can't help wondering if less 'stuff' around generally might make the process easier.

When are yours coming down?

Boxing Day.
As always.

Yesterday, so much space!

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 28/12/2019 21:10

Our tree is still looking amazing. Shall def keep it going for at least another week. Decs were not put up until the 16th so not bored with them yet !!

IndianaMoleWoman · 28/12/2019 21:44

NYD, as always, been up since Advent Sunday. We are not religious or traditional in any way, can’t stand all this Twelfth Night stuff - it all needs to be gone and feel fresh for the return to work/school. It may not be factually correct but to me, December is the month for Christmas celebrations. There’s something unsettling about decorations being up in January.

GlamGiraffe · 28/12/2019 21:54

@Ciwirocks why dont you leave it until candlemas then? We have done for the past two years. We have a real tree and put it up a few days before christmas, keep it well watered, our house is cool and it stays quite fresh.
People think we are rather eccentric but it is a given date for removing christmas trees.
I think so much work goes into the putting up and decorating (ours is huge and takes about 5 hours with 200+ glass decorations) that it should be enjoyed for longer, but without starting christmas in September or similar.
I do always put away our nativity by twelfth night for epiphany though.

PhilomenaChristmasPie · 28/12/2019 21:56

Sometime in January.

SageRosemary · 28/12/2019 21:56

The morning of the 7th January, we like to celebrate the Feast of the Epiphany and give the Three Wise Men a night in the crib.

macaroniandpizza · 28/12/2019 22:02

Mine came down about 3hrs ago and im so glad i have my living room back

ViveLEntenteCordiale · 28/12/2019 22:24

Tree will stay up as long as it's alive! Only went up the weekend before Christmas.

I used to stick to 12th night but lots of town centres here seem to leave decorations up till end of Jan so I'm more flexible now. Definitely brightens up gloomy winter days.

DookofBust · 28/12/2019 22:29

Snug tree down today, sitting room before the 31st as we are spending our evening in there - wouldn’t normally take them down before epiphany..... but I have a kitten this year!

Milanimilani · 28/12/2019 22:35

I feel obliged to take it down on the twelfth night, as keeping it up longer may affect the crops. However, I am also doing an Xmas dinner that night as well.

PhantomErik · 28/12/2019 22:40

We took our tree down today but the rest of the decs are still up.

We really needed the space back & it had been knocked over twice by the dog & was looking a bit sad.

Will take the rest down on NYE.

Floralnomad · 28/12/2019 22:41

Ours are all coming down tomorrow . I like it gone before dh goes back to work in the New Year and tomorrow is our only free day before then .

Kensie · 28/12/2019 22:44

They were taken down Boxing Day so I could clean properly. My house looks so much bigger and feels less chaoticGrin

Ifixbrokenthings · 28/12/2019 22:48

I'm a Dec 8 to Jan 6th kind of gal.

Will have them down prob Jan 3rd or 4th though so house tree free for back to school.

PocoyoandEllie · 28/12/2019 22:51

Normally twelfth night but it only goes up around the middle of December after DS birthday. This year it went up early and came down today as we are away for 2 weeks on NYD and today was my only day before we go with DH home to go in the loft. I felt a bit sad at first but did a thorough clean and put some of DS new toys away after it, we then went to town for some holiday bits and dinner out and it was lovely coming home to it looking fresh

BaubleTheLumpOfCoal · 28/12/2019 23:00

It depends what I do on NYE.

If I'm out, then I'll do it on the 2nd or 3rd (hangover...)
If not, then I'll do it NYD.

redeyetonowheregood · 28/12/2019 23:06

Ours will come down tomorrow. I would have done it today but went out instead.

Our tree went up on Christmas Eve.

My husband went back to work on 27th and I go back on the 2nd. We are not religious and have no family around to spend lots of time with over the holidays. Christmas is over for us.

MyBlueMoonbeam · 28/12/2019 23:14

After twelfth night - either 6th or 7th January - ours are only put up about a week before Christmas Day so we are sad to see them go

Dowser · 29/12/2019 00:11

I may take them down tomorrow..it just feels so weird right now
Like ‘it’s’ all over.
Maybe with Christmas being midweek so not running into the weekend I don’t know

Can’t believe we still haven’t had new year yet

Also weather unbelievably mild is playing havoc with my mind.

Gooseysgirl · 29/12/2019 00:17

I'll start putting bits away next weekend. Tree will come down on 6th - kids can help as they are off school for INSET. Outdoor lights will come down as the batteries die.

beanaseireann · 29/12/2019 00:30

After the 6th of January which is Little Christmas/ Women's Christmas in Ireland. But we only put them up around the 18th December.

fligglepige · 29/12/2019 00:44

New Years Day. It's a bit early but I'm back to work on the 2nd then we are moving house that weekend so need to be organised. It only went up on the 22nd so I'd like to keep it another few days and I think NYE would be a bit lacking without the tree twinkling in the corner?

echt · 29/12/2019 01:17

Up on Christmas Eve, down on 6th January.

All so much easier now that I've stripped back the deckers to show festiveness in one room and still pack into one box in the garage.

I do cheat by having non-Christmas solar lights all year-round in the front garden as this is where I sit out and read/have friends round.
