When are you taking the Christmas decorations down?

I keep eyeing up my Christmas decorations. On the one hand I usually leave them up until New Year and in many ways I haven't quite accepted that the festive period is over yet, but on the flip side I'm starting to yearn for a bit of normality and less clutter, and also I have a plumber coming on Monday to fit a new boiler and can't help wondering if less 'stuff' around generally might make the process easier.

When are yours coming down?

I have removed all my Christmas dishes and linens and changed the Christmas bedding. Most of the other stuff will come down on 12th night.
However, I will start putting things away periodically when I have time. I am off to the Big Smoke next week after NY and may not fancy doing all if it then.

ItsNovemberNotChristmas · 28/12/2019 13:19

Just taken mine down, it too was up earlier than usual as we were away for a fortnight. I was getting fed up of it shedding its fake snow and just needed to get it down and the room cleaned.

ReginaGeorgeous · 28/12/2019 13:19

Doing mine later today, baby DS has learned to crawl in the last couple of days so the tree needs to make way for the playpen.

January 2nd

itcamefrombeckyvardysaccount · 28/12/2019 13:22

Tomorrow.

Once Christmas and Boxing Day are over I just want it down.

MrsMozartMkII · 28/12/2019 13:25

NYD. Used to be 12th night, but became the 1st instead for some reason that I can't remember.

TinselTortoise · 28/12/2019 13:27

Ours came down yesterday as we were sick of the lack of space (small living room). Order is slowly being restored!

StillMedusa · 28/12/2019 13:27

Just taken mine down this morning... as is usual for me. My kids are older and we need the space back.
Plus it makes me happy to have an uncluttered house again! The tree's been up since the 8th..thats' long enough!

FireUnderpants · 28/12/2019 13:43

New years eve so we start the new year year fresh with less crap and clutter everywhere.

FrenchyQ · 28/12/2019 13:57

Ours all came down this morning... I'm back at work on Monday so wanted it done before that as we had to take it all back to our storage unit.

itsgettingweird · 28/12/2019 13:58

Usually always before new year.

Have got boxes down today and tidied a bit and seriously considering tomorrow.

I'm out Monday and then Tuesday afternoon and I like New Year's Day to be fresh start and house in way I intend to keep it but never actually manage to!

Joloh · 28/12/2019 14:00

Twelfth night as always.

Redcrayons · 28/12/2019 14:00

Probably the 3rd or 4th. I only put mine up on 18th so haven't got fed up of them yet.

My mum's rule is they have to be down by twelfth night. So I usually follow that.

MerryDeath · 28/12/2019 14:01

asap after tomorrow when we see my parents !

Nquartz · 28/12/2019 14:05

Ours have just gone up in the loft. I don't like seeing them for too long after Christmas Day.

Rowgtfc72 · 28/12/2019 14:07

All down today. They went up on the 1st.
Like the house back to normal by new years day and as we only get Christmas day off work will have no time to do it before 1st Jan.

Standinguptononsense · 28/12/2019 14:07

Tomorrow am. But it has been up since 1/12 !

Ninkanink · 28/12/2019 14:07

The tree will be taken down on twelfth night.

Some candle holders will stay out throughout January (not overtly Christmassy).

Cards and actual decorations will be cleared away on NYD.

Ciwirocks · 28/12/2019 14:07

These threads are so depressing. Christmas has just started, I love having my house decorated for the whole of the festive period. This is what happens when people put their trees up in November and follow these obsessive cleaning groups

LatteLover12 · 28/12/2019 14:08

Twelfth night. I hate it when everything is taken down and leave it for as long as I can.

The tree didn't go up till the 15th though.

A friend of mine took hers down on Boxing Day morning.

Ninkanink · 28/12/2019 14:11

Sometimes, if I feel like it, I take the decorations off the tree on twelfth night but leave the lights on and then it stays up til the end of January.

I’m Danish, I like hygge.

mummypigx · 28/12/2019 14:15

Took it all down on Boxing Day. Had had enough of toddler and baby pulling at the tree.

RollingOutOfBed · 28/12/2019 14:17

I don't see what's depressing about other people doing things differently. I put my tree up 9 or 10 days ago and took it down today. I don't put it up in November and I don't follow any cleaning groups. I'm just not a fan of having Christmas decorations up for long, or particularly a fan of Christmas. So long as it isn't your tree they're taking down I don't see the issue.

Mummyshark2018 · 28/12/2019 14:17

Started taking down today only because were off on holiday tomorrow for a week for New Years and I don't want to have to do it when we get back. Otherwise if we were at home it would come down 1st/2nd Jan.

BentNeckLady · 28/12/2019 14:29

Yesterday.
