When are you taking the Christmas decorations down?

I keep eyeing up my Christmas decorations. On the one hand I usually leave them up until New Year and in many ways I haven't quite accepted that the festive period is over yet, but on the flip side I'm starting to yearn for a bit of normality and less clutter, and also I have a plumber coming on Monday to fit a new boiler and can't help wondering if less 'stuff' around generally might make the process easier.

When are yours coming down?

Agree Blibby

MrsScrubbithatescleaning · 28/12/2019 11:55

6th January. Some are year round decorations though, so they’ll get left. Grin

Yesterday I needed some normality back and to find somewhere to put all the new toys.

It went up on the solstice weekend and it’s coming down on the 6th at which point it will mulch all my ericaceous plants before heading to the community chipper.

JustMe9 · 28/12/2019 11:57

6th Jan

Littleshortcake · 28/12/2019 12:01

New Years Day but will leave a few fairy lights and candles. I will be glad to get the house back to normal but am decluttering quite a lot while I'm off so it will be nice to see the effort pay off.

HairyFloppins · 28/12/2019 12:03

Twelfth night. Still very much Christmas here.

MmeBufo · 28/12/2019 12:10

Yes, ours will stay up until twelfth night too, we’re still deep in Yuletide hibernation. They go up on the 21st which isearly but I like to include the solstice in the festive period.

If we’d had decorations up since the beginning of the month I’d be desperate to get rid.

EdersonsSmileyTattoo · 28/12/2019 12:12

Today!

Going away tomorrow till the 2nd Jan and I don’t want to come home and have to start farting about taking the tree and decorations down then.

AndAnon · 28/12/2019 12:14

I was always told it’s unlucky to do it (or any cleaning) NYD.

I’ll do it the 3rd or 4th (but only as I can’t the 2nd due to a long work day).

Ceara · 28/12/2019 12:14

Twelfth night and not before. We don't put them up until the day before longest night (except DS's decorations in his room, or he would explode with the frustration of waiting). It's Christmas until Twelfth Night. The lights and greenery brighten the dark days. Bah humbug to Christmas starting on 1 December but being over by Boxing Day.

wendz86 · 28/12/2019 12:14

Normally 1st jan but away till the 3rd so will do it then .

AuntieStella · 28/12/2019 12:17

Twelfth Night

I really don't want to cut Christmas short!

SunshineAngel · 28/12/2019 12:17

I always find it a little bit depressing to still have the tree up once school has started again, and sometimes this is as early as Jan 3rd, so it doesn't always last until 12th night.

However, this year we didn't have any decs at all, as we're in the middle of doing loads in the house, and were barely spending any of the festive period at home anyway, so I just thought why bother! Best decision ever IMO, and next Christmas we will have a beautiful new living room with decs that match everything! :D

WorldEndingFire · 28/12/2019 12:19

Little Christmas :)

SunshineInMySprocket · 28/12/2019 12:20

On 4th this year as we are back at school on 5th and have a very busy first week back plus guests over the following weekend. I’d rather go back to school feeling organized than have to rush around. I usually leave it up until 6th however.

KitKat1985 · 28/12/2019 12:21

Okay, I think I'll relent and leave it up a few more days. Also because if it's still Christmas then I still sit around eating all day.... Grin

I like to leave them up until after new year and take the down the weekend following so this year the 4th or 5th.

More for toddler who likes them.

For me the tree is ginormous and being attacked daily by kamikaze cat and I’m looking forward to getting my window and view back.

hazandduck · 28/12/2019 12:22

I always leave them up til after New Year, but this year our tree has lost sooo many needles and our 2 yo keeps pulling the decs off I just want to restore order! I’m due in under 6 weeks with number 2 so we want to spend the rest of the Christmas break baby prepping!

hazandduck · 28/12/2019 12:23

Oh forgot to say it’s coming down today!

augustusglupe · 28/12/2019 12:23

6th of Jan. I might start taking cards etc down on the 5th, but never before that.

ManiacalLapwing · 28/12/2019 12:25

On 4th this year as we are back at school on 5th and have a very busy first week back plus guests over the following weekend. Back at school on a Sunday?

We will be taking them down on the 5th, back to school and the first full week at work on the 6th (working Thursday and Friday but still treating it as the Christmas period).

joolzfromyork · 28/12/2019 12:33

I didn't put any up ... (Saves sooo much time)

Barbararara · 28/12/2019 12:49

6th January. Suits me very well this year as the dc will be back to school and I can organise them properly and put them away in peace, and without ds getting unsettled.

UnderTheButtNutHut · 28/12/2019 13:12

Yesterday. I'd usually leave them til January but am going into hospital on Monday for a few days so wanted them out of the way.
