When are you taking the Christmas decorations down?

I keep eyeing up my Christmas decorations. On the one hand I usually leave them up until New Year and in many ways I haven't quite accepted that the festive period is over yet, but on the flip side I'm starting to yearn for a bit of normality and less clutter, and also I have a plumber coming on Monday to fit a new boiler and can't help wondering if less 'stuff' around generally might make the process easier.

When are yours coming down?

Twelfth night! It would never occur to me to do it sooner, but our doesn't go up until the weekend in the middle of December. We don't have Christmas linens or bedding.

VerbenaGirl · 28/12/2019 18:15

Never before New Year! Never later than Twelfth Night.

MotherHeggy · 28/12/2019 18:18

Tree down and anything christmas related taken down by new years day. I like to leave some warm white fairy lights up though through January to make the miserable month more cheery

Ohyesiam · 28/12/2019 18:35

12 th night. But my house is full of warm white fairy lights all year round.

MinkowskisButterfly · 28/12/2019 18:48

We.put ours up 1st December and will take it down on the 2nd January. These are they dates I do most years but I am feeling a bit swamped by the tree and ceiling and wall decks now. Need some clear space.

hiredandsqueak · 28/12/2019 18:50

Tomorrow, will have been up ten days which is more than I would have chosen.

peoplepleaser1 · 28/12/2019 18:56

6th Jan, it's Christmas in our home until then.

edgewater · 28/12/2019 18:58

Tomorrow. Late for me. Usually 27th but could t be arsed yesterday.

Deckthehallswith · 28/12/2019 18:58

I always used to take it down on 1st Jan before I go back to work. Now I have dcs and their holidays are longer than mine so I leave it up longer for them. Ds is back to school on 7th January so the tree will probably stay up until the 11th. It's my birthday on the 5th so I won't be doing it then.

Binting · 28/12/2019 19:00

Mine came down today, just some candles and window lights left, which will be put away just after New Year. I feel much more relaxed now the tree is back in the loft.

InvisibleToEveryone · 28/12/2019 19:00

Always get mine down on NYD.
Want it clean and tidy before I and kids fo back to school

Zenithbear · 28/12/2019 19:01

Everything down by the 2nd of January

golddustwomen · 28/12/2019 19:05

Took mine down today. I hate doing it but I can't begin to start organising all the new toys til it's gone.

Nbwalc · 28/12/2019 19:05

Mine came down yesterday, always take it down then. I prefer to start the new year with no christmas decorations still up.

DramaAlpaca · 28/12/2019 19:08

Not until 6th January. They only went up on the 20th December, so I'm making the most of them.

anothernamereally · 28/12/2019 19:08

Weekend after new year signifying a return to school and normality
Bangs gavel

bengalcat · 28/12/2019 19:09

On the third before we go skiing otherwise it would’ve been 12th night

MoaningMinniee · 28/12/2019 19:10

Ours went up on Solstice Day and will come down on Twelfth Night. By coincidence this is the period we've actually got off work commitments this year - but we never put the decorations up until the weekend before Christmas and always take them down the weekend before schools and therefore work starts again.

RosieposiePuddingandPi · 28/12/2019 19:12

Ours are down and packed away. We have a tiny little house so even a small tree feels a bit oppressive and we've had them up for a month now. We always take them down before the end of the the month as one of the DC has their birthday on NYE and it's nice to be able to just focus on them for the day rather than it still being Christmas.
The house feels lovely and fresh without it all!

Spacerader · 28/12/2019 19:12

Usually new years day. As I like to spend the day cleaning and decluttering and the new year officially begins on the 2and for us (can't start a new year and resolutions on the 1st when hungover), and then I can spend a few days relaxing before I go back to work.

However thisbyear I will prob take them down nye, just because I might want to spend all day nyd in bed wallowing in self pity

minesagin37 · 28/12/2019 19:13

Probably a week on Sunday as I have time then. It's the festive period so it doesn't get packed away until the festive period has ended.

Shallow07 · 28/12/2019 19:16

Ours came down today. Felt a bit sad but 38+2 and we need to get the house sorted before DD makes her arrival!

DrMadelineMaxwell · 28/12/2019 19:18

I've only been brought up to think that it's bad news to have your decorations up after twelfth night, not that they have to stay up that late. So mine done down new years day as Christmas is well and truly over by the for us and DH is back to work on the 2nd so it's good to clean and tidy everything away by then.

strawberry2017 · 28/12/2019 19:27

Today, my living room was a shit tip and I needed to get some order back!
