When are you taking the Christmas decorations down?

I keep eyeing up my Christmas decorations. On the one hand I usually leave them up until New Year and in many ways I haven't quite accepted that the festive period is over yet, but on the flip side I'm starting to yearn for a bit of normality and less clutter, and also I have a plumber coming on Monday to fit a new boiler and can't help wondering if less 'stuff' around generally might make the process easier.

When are yours coming down?

The weekend after New Year

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 28/12/2019 15:00

Might even be 7th Jan this year, since now have 2 nieces from a culture where they don’t make much of Christmas and they never have a tree, staying one night on the 6th. Tree is still fresh and lovely, I can still smell it, and It will easily last until then.
Shall have to think of presents for them now, to put under it.
16 and 18 - WTF to get? Body Shop something or other?

Bluesheep8 · 28/12/2019 15:35

Ours went up last Saturday and will come down tomorrow.

Yesterday. Christmas has no religious significance for us so no reason to drag it out once the festivities have finished. We leave the wreath til NYD and then theat is really it.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 28/12/2019 15:42

Did it today and glad I did.It was a hassle but I think I sweated out the gin from last night Grin

SpeedofaSloth · 28/12/2019 15:44

1 January.

We3kingsoforientareandabump · 28/12/2019 17:36

Mine came down on Boxing Day because I like them down for ds3 birthday which is tomorrow.

Usually would leave it until today but ds4 tipped it over so many times there wasn't much left of the tree anyway.

JoshLymanIsHotterThanSam · 28/12/2019 17:42

Mine came down yesterday. And it’s nothing to do with “not being festive enough” and “obsessively following cleaning groups”. It’s because at least half of the people who live in my house are autistic and normality is better.

BingoLittlesUncle · 28/12/2019 17:43

Jan. 6th Epiphany.

firstimemamma · 28/12/2019 17:48

It's usually somewhere between 30th dec and early jan in our house. Next door do it Boxing Day.

NightsOfCabiria · 28/12/2019 17:48

Twelfth Night.

I think it’s wrong to take them down any sooner. The festive season has only just begun! It was Boxing Day on Thursday - it’s only Saturday today! There’s New Year’s Eve and New Year’s day still to come.

I feel so sad that people think of Christmas decorations as ‘clutter.’

paddlingwhenIshouldbeworking · 28/12/2019 17:49

This year it will be 3rd Jan I think.

paddlingwhenIshouldbeworking · 28/12/2019 17:50

Candles & fairy lights will stay out until the end of Feb.

dementedpixie · 28/12/2019 17:51

The tree was in my way so it was taken down today. I've left the lights in the windows and the icicles up

Namethecat · 28/12/2019 17:55

We were both ill before Christmas so only put up the minimum and also much later than usual.
I normally take down before 1st January as I like the idea of starting the ny all clean and tidy.
Having said that as late this year, not til 12th night.

meowcatmeow · 28/12/2019 17:56

Tree came down yesterday,..I got fed up of rescuing the cats out of it and the dog trying to chase the cats up the tree! It only went up on Monday so very short lived.

MegaClutterSlut · 28/12/2019 17:58

I've started taking mine down yesterday. They will be put away by tomorrow. Nothing to do with cleaning groups Hmm for me christmas ends after boxing day. That's how we do it, that's our choice just like it's some peoples choice to take them down in the new year. Each to there own, nothing to get worked up aboutConfused

RollingOutOfBed · 28/12/2019 17:59

You're easily saddened then. It is clutter to me. I have to move the items every time I want to dust. I have less room to put other things so I took them down. A week or so is long enough for my liking. Each to their own.

poppy1973 · 28/12/2019 18:00

Well, I might take the real tree down on the 1st Jan and leave outside lights up until the 6th Jan.

My FIL constantly kept whacking the real Christmas tree on Christmas day and Boxing Day with a table tennis bat and ball and has dropped all the needles on the carpet, so as soon as I can, I will throw the tree outside. Had enough of it now.

marvelousways · 28/12/2019 18:00

oh, I cant wait to get mine all down. Took some down today. outdoor lights and tree still up. I only out them up on 16th, but just really, really want my house back! Will take tree down Monday or Tuesday. I love new year, everything down, new fresh scented candles and vases of daffodils. Im so over chirtmas now!

Janaih · 28/12/2019 18:01

6th jan here.

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 28/12/2019 18:02

Some done today and will do rest tomorrow

feelingverylazytoday · 28/12/2019 18:05

These threads are so depressing
So why read them then?
I'm taking mine down tomorrow, after my son goes back to uni. That's the end of christmas for me. I only have a small tree and a few tiny decorations anyway, so it's not going to make much difference.

Kuponut · 28/12/2019 18:07

Came down today - house is cramped enough without having to dodge around a tree for another week or two - plus I have uni exams straight away when I go back so wanted to get it done before that.

Janleverton · 28/12/2019 18:10

Tomorrow. Went up on 15th December.
